  • wtf?

  • "That's the bomb that kills people, but leaves buildings standing."

  • Captain Mike Nelson, aka Lloyd Bridges (Jeff's dad), promoting the dubious benefits of Contac.

Only made me incapable of operating heavy machinery, when taken orally, with a shot of Jack!

  • ...most of the men must have been out shoveling snow...that really did make me laugh!

  • I was 10 that year.I liked the 1970's as a kid.Having fun and going to grammer school were my only concerns. There were a few years the economy was bad in the 70's but not like today.

  • Wow, I remember Contac...Boy, talk about going old school!

  • Allright, Lloyd Bridges for Contac!

  • @hibob418 Yeah, he picked one helluva time to give up amphetamines.

  • BRING BACK CONTAC!!!!!!

  • @Serpo71 - Contact was a cureall? If they brought it back.. so many over the counter stuff we be obsolete... and less money will be made by Big Pharma..

  • I wish they still reported news this way.

  • @MattTheSaiyan updates went away about 1992 when 24 hr CNN and 4 years later Fox news became the place where people got their news.

  • The Tragedy of Jonestown happened in November 78

  • What she need the papers for?

-she's obviously reading from a teleprompter.

  • As a backup in the event the TelePrompTer equipment broke down.

  • Damn, wish we still had a big scary enemy instead of these lame terrorists we have nowadays...

  • @ThrilloVanHouten Seriously. Terrorists are just irritating and frustrating little rats running around everywhere. At least the Soviets were one big, cool bad guy, lol.

  • I don't remember this special, but if we were watching TV that night, it was a 1-in-3 shot we were watching CBS...

  • @BSNFabricating , what no PBS or UHF indie station?

  • That's Lloyd Bridges doing the voice-over in the Contac ad by the way.

  • The ads were the best thing about seeing the special. To see what life was like before I was born

  • That sounds like Lloyd Bridges on the Contac Commercial VO!

  • Its interesting....she just blew through the news.

"that's the fuckin' news and back to the worst holiday special ever fuck our viewers. "

absolutely right quote...boy, life sucked back then.

  • I was 2 months old when this atrocity aired

  • I was 12 years old but don't remember this special at all.

November 1978 was a good month otherwise. That's when Radio Shack introduced the TRS-80 microcomputer.

  • It was a good month...except for Jonestown & all the other bizarre murders that happened. LOL! I can't really say much, cause I barely existed at that point (&, of course, have no memory of 78 at all), but Jtown is the 1st thing that pops in my head when someone says November, 78.

  • Atrocity? Seems like she did a good job to me. Although that cowl neck sweater was rather distracting. I kept expecting something to hatch and fly out of it.

  • I think 'crb4059' was referring to "The Star Wars Holiday Special" - not Marlene Sanders' anchoring of this "Newsbreak."

  • What did you think of her outfit?

  • Wasn't that kind of outfit the type that screamed "late 1970's"? That, plus her hairstyle?

Incidentally, Ms. Sanders replaced Lisa Howard as anchor of ABC's "News with the Woman's Touch" when the latter was sacked by the network in 1964.

  • @wmbrown6 Ha ha, yup... a cowlneck and a white fro... my own mother had both at the time. My dad had giant sideburns and used to wear a western shirt with big pink roses on it... man, I miss the 70's. ;)

  • I was living in New England back then and I don't remember the snow.. but then again I was only 3 years old.. HAHA!! hehehe.. WAH WAH WAH..

  • "One nurse said 'most of the men must have been shoveling snow'".

    What a sexist remark.

  • lol and most of the women were probably inside making dinner :-p

  • Generation Y really didn't start until 1979. Interesting that they would expect it in 1978....

Most baby boomers were still in their first or second jobs or going to college.

LOL weather report -- it's snowing in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

  • @jaworskij There's nothing sexist about it at all. You're just a victim of about 20 years of politcal correctness brainwashing.

  • 11/17/1978 is the night that the Star Wars Holiday Special aired. I would turn one a few weeks later. I wish that CBS would re-air the special, but George Lucas had officially disowned it later on and it now in public domain.

  • that's the fuckin' news and back to the worst holiday special ever fuck our viewers.

  • I was out shoveling in '78, but I didn't have a seed yet. I was only six!!!!!

  • I was only 2 years old then and I couldn't no way get pregnant.

  • I still had two more years to go before I was even born.

  • same here virusome25, I was also negative 2 years old.

  • i wanted to see the CBS id
