Forget the cotton. It's not necessary.

You can make a bow drill quite easily with stone-age tools. The most difficult thing to make is the rope, but it is possible with natural fibres. However, probably not necessary if you have bootlaces or a drawstring on your hood, etc.

its not kindling, kindling is the wood that you start the flames up with, like little pieces of wood, you used the cotton as "tinder", like a tinder bundle of dry grass, or pine straw, or dead moss.

Another Observation was that the spindle is square were you had the string. This would lead to you distroying your bow string. btw the last message i spelt Board wrong.

This setup for a bow drill fire is poor as the way you make the fire is by making a hot coal from the dust that collects in the notch when twisting the spindle into the fire bored. Using cotton int the depression will stop the friction between the fire bored and spindle resulting in no fire.
