(with XP) to control panel, sound and audio devices, device volume, advanced, mute pc speaker (mute pc speaker should do it) if not, try mute everything on the main page but that might stop sound from tv, 1st suggestion should do it
to answer broccoli5467, my suggestion is: Because you use the headphone output 3.5mm (mp3, ipod, walkman player sized Stereo jack) to convert to the RCA Red and White (2 channels) left and right channels, and plug them into your front of any TV for sound, switching the TV to that source of input, it will of course play sound through both the laptop speakers and the TV until you mute the laptop by going...
If your laptop has an HDMI port, all you need is that. There should be a slot on the back of the TV that says HDMI. Just connect the two and then make sure you are on the HDMI input.
could i get some help? i have managed to connect my laptop (vista 31 bit) to my tv but i cant seem to get the sound to play from the TV. I am using a VGA cable.
I would like to try this at a computer at work to show some co-workers a few tv shows that I have on a hard drive. The tv has the red/yellow ports that I think are Av cables...but the laptop, a year old Dell does not have the matching ports. Is there a cable that connects to the computer and then branches out into the yellow red cables? Thank you guys for any help!
Cables for VGA, DVI, and component video don't support audio signals. However, HDMI cables do support audio signals, but not all HDMI-enabled video cards support audio.
and btw... my laptop (HP Pavillion DV6700) has an HDMI port, so does my panasonic plasma tv... i was planning for a VGA cord till I saw this video and realised HDMI is an option :-)
thanks a ton! i came online to get answers to this very thing... and because of your video i have more than what i need! don't know if you know it but you just made someone's life better :-)
HELP!!! my computer (acer laptop) has a blueish tint but if i mess around with the screen i can get it back to its normal color. My laptop has a HDMI port so will this work? Not sure if the motherboard is fried or if its the graphics card.

Someone answer plz: I'm planning to buy a 42" 1024×768 HDR TV and play games on that, instead of my 1440×900 19" monitor. So i'm curious if my 42"'s dispay will be actually less detailed compered to my 19" monitor, and if it"s only magnifying the picture. I'm so confused.
For example: My computer won't be able to show as many ikons on the desktop, on the 42"TV screen that my 19" monitor?
eyy i connected my comp to my hdtv with a VGA. It starts ok but after it finishes loading the Windows bar at the start the screen goes black...any ideas ????
Also, one brand new way to connect your computer to a TV is Intel's WiDi, which allows you to wireless send a 720p output to your HDTV. You'll need a you need a Core i3 or i5 laptop with a specific set of chipsets and Wifi card, and the adapter box will set you back $100, but this is going to be a technology that is going to become widespread very soon. In fact Best Buy carries 3 laptops bundled with this technology and the adapter box for ~$1000 under their blue label program.
1) Many laptops have HDMI out. Even back in 2006 there are laptops (e.g. Sony's AR series) that has HDMI out.
2) DVI cables cost about $5-10.
3) Resolution: It's not a good idea to go for 800x600 or less, because you'll end up with a really poor quality since this is much lower than native resolution and 800x600 is not 16:9, so video will look stretched out. The only two resolutions to try is either 1366x768 (or 1280x720 for older displays) for 720p, or 1920x1080 for 1080p.
i have windows vista, and a eurovox digital tv tuner, do i use the vga cables , the back of my pc has a port rs232 is this the correct port, vista has the tv , areo i think its called , i need help as im a newby, so if i picked this up correct vga cable connected to pc to digi box. is that it? please help.
My laptop actually has an hdmi jack. I don't know much about hdmi cables. I know my computer can send a signal to the tv but can it recieve one from the tv?
Yes, many laptops, even some $400 netbooks, have HDMI out (such as HP's Mini 311). The HDMI outputs both sound and video, so it's the best option. I do not believe that there are any laptop that will accept video input from any source natively (unless you have a TV tuner card built-in). Although if you get a converter box with USB 2.0 you can plug it into your laptop and feed video signal from a camcorder or other source.
for the record not many computers have s video on it,they all use hdmi and then you have to use an audio cable through your headphone jack on the laptop
I have an analog TV and bought a cable that had a 7-pin S-video (which goes to the PC) to RCA (which goes to the TV) cable. When I switch the properties to dual screen, I can see the desktop on the TV, but it flickers then goes to black as if its not getting signal. Any help is appreciated.
My video card is Nvidia 8600GT and TV is a 27" Panasonic analog.
What about S-Video to USB? My TV has an S-video but my pc does not. That makes me furious because my pc is not that old it should have S-video =( So is there a way to achieve this goal without s video on the pc? I have a vga input on my pc but not on my tv. But I hear there are vga inputs to s-video.
and for the record not many computers have s video on it,they all use hdmi and then you have to use an audio cable through your headphone jack on the laptop
@broccoli5467 you cant hear it from the tv for all i know. you need to connect some speakers to your laptop. or use an dvi cable or something like that
Ok so i have a new TV and it has a PC option on it when i hit source. I want to run my desktop to the T.V. what would be my best bet... it is a blueray T.V if that matters. Thanks
Yes! I just connected my laptop to Toshiba 37" using a DVI to HDMI cable. The last bit about the function buttons was needed for me to watch bluray discs on my TV, regular DVDs and anything on the monitor came up on the Tv just fine but for bluray I had to press the function keys to see it.
@aeroaa: if you don't have FN key, probably there is a dedicated key for switching between displays OR there is some combination. CAN ANYONE HELP ME i hooked my pc up to the computer using a VGA cord which was all great it came up witht he black and white writing followed by the windows loading screen after that the blue log on screen should come up but the tv screen says NO SIGNAL it was working fine until that point please some one help me cheers
hey did you try to connect your laptop to the tv? i have a hp laptop too...i try to press fn but nothin came up....i connect it with the s video....nothin is working on me......can you help??
i have a Philips laptop with a HDMI port, I am trying to go about hooking it up to my HD ready LCD flat screen so i can play Simon the sorcerer 2 in plasma glory,
have you hooked it up by HD yet? if so give me some tips please,,
I have digital tv built in to my LCD tv,, do you need more than a HD cable hook up to your laptop to get HD quality pictures? or is a HD cable all you need to get a HD picture?
hey i have dmi to dmi and i dont know if my expectations are too high or maybe its my tv but the font is quite blurry and hard to read. ... any recommendations...?
my computer has all those ports but i have a s video cable and i don't seem to have a port on my tv for it but my dvd player has a s video cable input but it still dosen't work can you help me???
I'm wondering if anyone knows how to display my tv screen on my laptop?? As i want to record my gameplay for some games but unable to do so while it's on my tv. I know about dvd recorder to put it onto dvd/HHD then onto laptop but that's my 2nd option if there isn't away from question above.
I dont have a VGA cable port on my tv, so i bought a Scart(dunno what it's called in english, but its the kind you plug your videogame consoles in)/VGA cable. The vga end goes into my computer where i normally plug in my computer screen and the scart goes into the back of my TV. However i cant get a picture. I have a tv with HD ready, it's relaitvely new as far as i know. It's a Panasonic TX-32LED8F. Can anyone help me?
computer/laptops have hdmi ports now, mine has one, but it does not have a s - video port or a dvi port, but it has another one that you didnt mention, i dont know what its called
Thank you, I have my laptop connected to my Samsung LCD TV and everything works fine. I used the VGA cable from the computer to TV. My TV does have a HDMI in 1 and 2 on the back. If I buy a HDMI to DVI cable, will there be a considerable difference in the picture? My laptop does not have a HDMI port.
My laptop has an HDMI port. I use the G60-120OUS from HP. Got it at Circuit City. I recently bought an HDMI cable and connected it to my Samsung 50" HDTV and the quality is indeed amazing.
TV 60" how about the visual(pxl)definition? TV+Laptop+Play station+Piano(with monitor)....do I need adapter port for several different divices connection?
Yes, you can definitely connect to a monitor (im not sure about hdtv), then you will have to hit the "fn" key (like the one on the video) while holding fn then press a key up by your "F" keys (f1 f2 f3 ect.) that looks like two boxes with a line between them.
i have a gateway ml3109 and my screen is completely broken. i did all the steps to connect to my hdtv using vga cable and i couldnt not make it work. my laptop is password protected but since the screen is broken, i cant log in. does this matter?
Nice work. Your video was very explicative. Still, I don't think I can connect My laptop to the TV. I have a Fujitsu Simens laptop and a Daewoo TV, the old bulky type, not a flat TV. So all it has is a slot for the S-video cable. And my laptop has a VGA cable slot. What can I do in this situation? Do I have to resort to buying a DVD player and just burn my material?
my screen has a blue tint to it and it comes and goes does that mean the vga cables are bad or is it my tv ? the tv is very new its a 40 inch samsung and the blue tint only happens on the vga port other channels are fine ????!?!?!?!?!?WTF
Alright I have a Samsung 24 tube TV and its suppose to have a HD converter built into the TV. I also have a Acer Aspire 5680 labtop that i'm trying to connect. I connected a VGA cable HD15m to 3RCA cable to my computer and TV, yet nothing shows up on the screen. I try changing the resolution and everything, am i doing something wrong or is this cable just not working or something. Please help me if you can, i can even show you pictures of the set up that I'm using if need be for the help. thanks
try doing what this guy says at about 2:16. Press the Fn key and hold then press one of the f keys up top. For mine it was f5. I have a toshiba satellite. Then select crt/tv.
Help please! I'm a technophobe! I want to connect my laptop to my HD flatscreen tv for both picture and sound. I have ordered a VGA male to male lead and now need to order the audio lead but don't know exactly what type to buy or where from...Have ordered the VGA from ebay so would be good to also get the audio lead from there. Any advice would be great! Thanks
FOR S-VIDEO - You state that if your computer has a 7-pin and your TV has a 4-pin that the method won't work. THAT IS INCORRECT
I know because I just bought a normal s-video cord(4-pin) last night and it works fine. The 4-pin fits the 7-pin. I've heard that the quality might not be great using S-video, but i didn't notice watching anime... Def an upgrade from watching on my laptop
I have a 720p or 1080p I think 720p...it has no DVI input but it has HDMI, how much does the dvI to HDMI cable cost?
I have a DVI cable that came with my computer...it's a DVI thing on both sides, and my computer does not have a DVI port, but my monitor does, it also has VGA, I use VGA for computer to monitor
if I connect the VGA cable to my monitor and get a DVI cable in my monitor, do you think that It will work? with DVI to HDMI, I don't wanna spend like $80 for something not working :(
my computer has a HDMI outlet... so i guess thats what i HAVE to use

Thanks :)

Thank you, I have my laptop connected to my Samsung LCD TV and everything works fine. I used the VGA cable from the computer to TV. My TV does have a HDMI in 1 and 2 on the back. If I buy a HDMI to DVI cable, will there be a considerable difference in the picture? My laptop does not have a HDMI port.
Thanks

My laptop has an HDMI port. I use the G60-120OUS from HP. Got it at Circuit City. I recently bought an HDMI cable and connected it to my Samsung 50" HDTV and the quality is indeed amazing.

my laptop screen is broken
so could i use a vga cable to connect to another monitor or hdtv?
also I obviously can't see anything on the screen so any ideas?
mnv36 3 years ago
Yes, you can definitely connect to a monitor (im not sure about hdtv), then you will have to hit the "fn" key (like the one on the video) while holding fn then press a key up by your "F" keys (f1 f2 f3 ect.) that looks like two boxes with a line between them.

ItWasNicole 3 years ago
Read the instructions carefully and it will work for you. I got mine up and going it's AWSOME!
Thanks for a great video, your a champ.

Please help me if you can, i can even show you pictures of the set up that I'm using if need be for the help. thanks
