@Zelretchify You are correct in saying that they are technically a part of the military wing of the Hereticu. However Inquistors can also call upon their own agents and most have atleast a squad of stormtroopers in their retinue. And like it was said, the Ecclisearchy and the Hereticus call them in when they want to make sure the taint is completely and utterly removed. In my opinion the only ones more effective at battling Chaos in the Imperiums aresnal are the Grey Knights and their Malleus.
@BurningQuranDay They are, technically, the military wing of the Ordo Hereticus. And the job of the Hereticus is what? To deal with Chaos tainting Imperial worlds. Of course there are exceptions (there are quadrillions of people in the Imperium and relatively few sisters), but the overlap is nowhere near as large as it is in Black Library fiction.
@BurningQuranDay Wrong on at least one count - Inquisitors can in fact call in the Space Marines. No one is above the Inquisition. As for the role of the Sororitas, they really are the Ordo Militant of the Hereticus. Where the Arbites (on the whole) deal with common crims, the role of the Sororitas is to purge Chaos wherever it infiltrates humanity.
I would have imagined that, especially on less organised/populated planets, sisters defending the shrine would have a role in law enforcement, at least in keeping the peace in the area immediately surrounding the shrine.
If there was a disturbance taking place and the arbites were not available on this planet, or going to take a while to respond, I can't see why the sisters wouldn't sort it out.
Probably to the detrement of those causing the disturbance, and anyone else nearby.
I don't fully agree with the description on the sister's role. Tracking mutants is not the sister's main role, as far as I can tell. They are soldiers, not investigators. Their job is more likely to be doing every kind of military operation that the Eclesiarchy wants done, but that no other force care about. Might range from defending a relic on a world with no strategic interest to escort pilgrims on a dangerous environment.
@BurningQuranDay Actually,they're really more of a highly recognizable, well-armed internal police force. Sisters are kind of the Imperium's religious equivalent of the GSG-9 or SWAT: Equipped with distinctive gear designed to scare the hell out of the enemy, well armed, extremely well trained, and able to both cow heretical groups and root them out if need be. They're the Chamber Militant of the Hereticus, after all. You call in Sisters when you *really* need it dead.
@Night10194 Well, I have a completely different vision of the Sisters' role. To me what you are describing is clearly the Arbites role. I mean, the fact that the Sisters are a Chamber Militant was included during the Inquisitor craze, when they wanted to make codices for the three Ordo of the Inquisition, and it just seems like a unadjusted detail to me. You are saying that one calls in the Sisters when on really needs it. I'm asking you : who can call in the Sisters ?
@Night10194 No planet governor can, or wants to, do that. They have their own police force, and they can create their own über-elite police force if it suits them, but they have no jurisdiction over the Sisters. Only the Eclesiarchy have. And also Inquisitors, but Inquisitors can just enroll anyone at a simple demand with the Space Marines as one of the only exceptions.
Therefore, it seems to me the Sister must do what Eclersiarchy cares about, and that's not law enforcement.
@fmagistel Just normal humans - well, as "normal" as a human orphan could be after spending her entire childhood and youth in a church-owned military school with a curriculum full of indoctrination and martial training. ;)
They do get Marine-grade equipment, though, and their insane zeal allows them to really push their limits. A lot of 40k players call them "Female Space Marines" - for even though this comparison isn't entirely accurate they do have some stylistic similarities.

@barmyguy900 Yes, only one of the sisters have fallen to the lure of chaos. Her name is Miriael Sabathiel, She now follows Slaanesh, which makes her sexy imho. A crazy woman following the prince lord of sex and passion!
@davitos13 And I should point out that the Sisters undergo none of the conditioning that Space Marines do. They have resisted through pure faith - and the grace of the Emperor.
In the novel Cains Last stand several sisters had fallen under the influence of the chaos warmaster Varan the undeafetable. Snapping out of his mindcontrol shortly before Cain defeated him.
@DrMabuse2006 I've heard of those novels - the author seriously needs to read up on some GW canon, specifically the 2E SoB Codex and the 3E Rulebook. Neither the Sisterhood nor the Schola Progenium work anything like described in the Cain books.
Cains view of the Sisters is written from a pov of how most Imperial citizens and guardsmen see them. A bunch of raving zealot, nutcases who's idea of fun is roasting marshmellows over burning heretics.
@DrMabuse2006 And that's BS. Mitchell has obviously never read their Codices or the WD articles, and generally seems to apply too much modern world ideology to 40k.
"By the standards of the 21st century, these girls are fanatical zealots, but in the context of the 41st millennium, they're paragons of virtue, whose every action is a manifestation of the divine will of the God-Emperor of mankind. It's all a matter of perspective, you see."
You know. The codex tells the player how the sisters should be viewed. Doesn't mean all the countless trillions of civilians actually think of them like that. Yeah. No one will tell it to their faces. Despite the games and novels. Over 1 mill. worlds. who are not at war. And peace brings complacency. Most people have other, more pressing problems then a bunch of Holy girls running around looking for heretics.
@DrMabuse2006 That's not quite what Andy said, and the other (PoV-independent) mistakes the author of the Cain novels made only cement the fact that Mitchell simply did not do sufficient research - or just did not care about how the Sisters are portrayed in studio material, or how the Schola and the Commissariat "actually" work. BL authors have and often use quite a bit of artistic license.
@DrMabuse2006 Aside from that: This has nothing to do with peace and complacency - the Ecclesiarchy as the state-religion of the God-Emperor is universally respected. Having a low opinion of the Sororitas (don't get me wrong - fear is fine!) is akin to common people in medieval times criticizing the crusading orders of the christian church. Next we know some novel author wants to tell us Space Marines are not respected as well?
Respected, or feared, is one thing. But that doesn't mean they are universally liked or looked up to as rolemodels. And unless you spend a lot of time with them you'll more likely to think of them as weird or even nuts. As for the thing with Cain. Cain is different since unlike other Imperial heroes he doesn't think dying in the Emperors service is the coolest thing since sliced bread. So the fanatical sisters throwing themselves at the enemy would be something he'd like to stay far away from.
@DrMabuse2006 They *are* nigh-universally liked or looked up to because they are even more rare than Marines and few people actually have -any- business with them. Cain's "difference" is another issue entirely, for someone like him would have never become a Commissar in the first place. Unlike what Mitchell seems to think the Schola does not -force- people into specific roles. Someone who is a coward and not martially inclined will simply get trained to be an Administratum clerk.
@DrMabuse2006 Addendum - it's not even a matter of PoV. The Cain books state that Sororitas novices and the male progena intermingle. That is simply not true - as per GW's own material, the Schola Progenium is gender-divided. And no Sister Superior would behave anything like that teacher in the novel.
@Sinvey i think your a bit wrong there the SoB is still a military organization and it makes sence to put the SoB trainees together with kids learning to be officers and commisars in the imperial guard so they know a bit of stagtergy and r not runing around firing at shit and being dum asses
@nexusstalker That's simply not what GW's own books say, though. In fact, they list the intended high level of purity for all progena as the chief reason for gender seperation - they had bad experience with the opposite under Vandire's reign. Where necessary (keeping in mind that the SoB have their own techniques and tactics), the training regime can be absolutely identical based on what their tutors know. You don't *need* the kids to intermingle at all for that.
@sanktmikael No need to be vulgar, heretic. Also, you may want to research the 40k lore slightly further; the Emperor is the source of the Astronomican as well as the only element keeping Chaos from pouring into the material realm. Regardless of whether you subscribe to the Starchild Theory or not, you must realize that the Emperor is essential to human survival. Additionally, it is a theocracy that governs humanity... you may want to understand that before making any comments of your own.
Oh yeah, the humans. The most assholish assholes in the universe. They make the Dark Eldar look like schoolgirls.
I'm all for the Tau. Humans can go die in some remote corner of the galaxy. 'd love to see that old corpse kick the bucket. And then watch the humans crawl on their knees to join the Greater Good. Then we'll see who is the heretic, when the Tau accept the very species, that tried to exterminate them, to fight and live by their side.
@ShrougerNite What are you fluttering about? Unlike the untrustworthy humans, the Tau don't kill off species who join the Greater Good. Who was the one who tried to exterminate the Tau before they even knew how to make primitive projectile weapons? Oh yeah, the friggin humans.
Only by chance did they survive that and then they proceeded to join together, as in the whole species. And whoopedydoo, now the youngest spacefaring race in the galaxy is more advanced than the Imperium.
@sanktmikael the tau are definetly more advanced in their ideas. I would preffer the see the emperor be reincarnated when russ finally comes back, but yeah dead is better than dying. If the eldar & tau united they'd be unstopable. maybe the humans can join them too once the inquisition gets destroyed.
@helikaon864 I really like their ideals, they're the only species in the galaxy that actually tolerates stuff.
The Eldar are dying and they have only themselves to blame. But the Tau still accept anyone that is willing to join the Greater Good. Even the humans, but only after they get over their little tantrum of hating everything different.
At first the Haemonculi helped the Tau to fight off the Tyranids with their frankenstein monsters. In return they requested a lot of Tau personnel for "cultural exchange."
Then the Tau realised that said personnel were actually getting experimented on and turned into more frankenstein monsters, which were later used against the Tau.
Finally the DE main force appeared and slaughtered/captured all the Tau defenders.
Wow, too bad for Tau, but did any Tau survive at least? i mean, I hear that Tau are rather naive about some stuff in the universe, so, if there were survivors, they at least can spread the word about never trusting the Dark Eldar.
The Tau High Command was roughly aware of what was going on,
just that their reinforcements did not arrive in time to save the colonies, and in terms of tactics and combat prowess, the local Tau defenders were "hopelessly outmatched".
i dont know why anyone would play sisters was in my local games workshop and the sisters units cost an arm and a leg i mean £££ dam!!" better off playing grey knights or like me "Chaos marines" the Emperor's children........BROTHER'S!!"
Death to the false Emperor and death to the weak Imperium of man!!"
@DarkTemplar40k: Your right about the origins of Warcraft but wrong overall about the fell of it. Warcraft 1 and 2 had a typical fantasy feeling of LotR evil vs good. Warcraft 3 introduce a new threat that united all factions who realized their best interest was to join together. WoW is what made it the cartoony lovely dovely stuff we know it today. And we got thousands if not more WoW fans claiming Warhammer stole from WoW...which we are know can't be possible as it existed WAY before WoW
@crazy4sian Everyone must be purged at one point. But if they're going to cremate me I hope they do it after I've died and not while I'm still alive. :D
The Sisters of Battle or Adepta Sororitas are not part of any of the Space Marine Chapters. They are the armed fighting force of the Ecclesiarchy responsible spreading Imperial Faith within the Imperium. Experts at rooting out heretics and witches they often join forces with the Ordo Hereticus, one of the branches of the Imquisition that is responsible for destryoing cults of Chaos and other heretical practitioners including non-sanctioned Psykers.
@WiseMonkey888 It's best to try one of the cheaper armies with more plastic miniatures. You might want to try Daemhunters if the Inquisition really interests you. You can easily proxy virtually any Imperium unit as a Daemhunter's unit of some kind, so the need for metal units is greatly reduced. The problem with the witch-hunters is that there are few units that even remotely resemble Sisters of Battle (short of Dark Eldar Whyches, I suppose)
@TemplarsStudio The might emperor lost his ability to speak about two hundred years ago alongwith the ability to move...look and think Now just a dried up corpse being kept alive by ''The golden throne''
IMHO,The Adeptus Sororitas are most useful on the field of battle in conjunction with other forces of the Imperium when the mission is clear and the mandates don't conflict. Otherwise, you're just going to run into trouble later. I recall a battle where the Orks gave my Crimson Fists a rough time. Then the Sisterhood landed. We welcomed their aid... it was invaluable. Then they turned right around and threw a heresy charge in our faces. A not-so-good day turned downright bad. End of story.
@TAWEEYZZ something like sisters of battle ( Daughters of Emperor) were here even pre-heresy and during, but real where founded after that as a militant part of newly founded Ecclersiarchy / Cult of God-Emperor.
Chapters not, but they do have their Orders, not all of them are militant. Those militants are based around some Saint.
Sebastian Thor, re-former of Ecclersiarchy formed their core during his lifetime.
@makakooos ty for the reply i dont reallyhave all the expansions for DOW all I have is DOW and DOW Winter Assault ive been looking the rest up on youtube and DOW wiki
@TAWEEYZZ well DOW is something like parody on 40k. Do you know that every single one sister from militant order is forbidden to ever speak ? :) And yet, in game they are talking...
I have this and previous info from codex of tabletop miniatures, best official source of infos :)
@Makkovar yeah I am sure, full battle sister is forbidden to speak, it is written in codex. It is tradition from pre-heresy times and SoS you mentioned :)
@makakooos This is were the story get complikated, in the horus heresy series they also disgribe them but the sisters of battle is not the same group, you are talking of the sisters of silense and there are some mayor diffrences check out lexikanum.
In the cult of the sisters of silens for example thay are all blanks(antipsykers)
@SwedishAirsofter0 I am sorry but Lexicanum is not trustworthy. Everyone can write there anything and it is not so protected like classic wikipedia. I base all my thoughts only on official lore. Yes, they are pariahs, soulless...
@makakooos Sure thats why you always should check out the sources. The horus heresy series have some good facts, think it was in fligth of eisenstein
@SwedishAirsofter0 yeah, I red all HH novels :) They were in Flight of Eisenstein a lot and then there is a story in Tales of Heresy and they were involved when Russ invaded Prospero, he brought squads of Sisters and Custodians along with him.
From the Lightning, and the Tempest, Emperor Deliver Us! From Plague, Temptation, and War, Emperor Deliver Us! From the Scourge of the Kraken, Emperor Deliver Us! From the Blasphemy of the Fallen, Emperor Deliver Us! From the Begetting of Daemons, Emperor Deliver Us! From the Curse of the Mutant, Emperor Deliver Us! That thou wouldst bring them only death, That thou shouldst spare none, That thou shouldst pardon none We beseech thee, destroy them. Glory to the God-Emperor of Mankind!
The name "Space Marine" seems kind of childish and their armor seems like a plastic toy, but Warhammer is pretty epic, don't get me wrong. But "Space Marine"? Really? That was the best nickname they could come up with?
The name "Space Marine" seems kind of childish and their armor seems like a plastic toy, but Warhammer is pretty epic, don't get me wrong, but "Space Marine" that was the best nickname they could come up with.
I have to admit, I don't like the SoB. They're nuns with guns in every sense of the phrase. Make even one step in their way and they'll instantly accuse you of heresy and try to burn you while claiming that they're "purging the heretical traitor with righteous benediction from the Most Holy Emperor's domain with the purifying essence of fire".
They take the holier-than-thou trope to a twelve.
And thats coming from a guy who considers himself a Paladin in all but name.

The creation of the Sisters maybe started with an arguement between the Emperor and his wife.
"Darling why didn't you include women to your newly created Space Marines?"
"Women are weak and not fierce warriors enough."
"I'll prove you that you're wrong. I create a whole faction of woman fighters. They will destroy all enemies of humanity!"
"My dear sooner will my Marines fight each other and sooner I'll be a rotting corpse than the Imperium will have woman fighters like these."

ShrougerNite 9 months ago
@ShrougerNite
Then we'll see who is the heretic, when the Tau accept the very species, that tried to exterminate them, to fight and live by their side.
sanktmikael 9 months ago
@sanktmikael You will allow humanity to join the Great Good right after you sterilize the entire species. Quiet extinction... how convenient.
ShrougerNite 9 months ago
@ShrougerNite What are you fluttering about? Unlike the untrustworthy humans, the Tau don't kill off species who join the Greater Good. Who was the one who tried to exterminate the Tau before they even knew how to make primitive projectile weapons? Oh yeah, the friggin humans.
Only by chance did they survive that and then they proceeded to join together, as in the whole species. And whoopedydoo, now the youngest spacefaring race in the galaxy is more advanced than the Imperium.
sanktmikael 9 months ago
@sanktmikael the tau are definetly more advanced in their ideas. I would preffer the see the emperor be reincarnated when russ finally comes back, but yeah dead is better than dying. If the eldar & tau united they'd be unstopable. maybe the humans can join them too once the inquisition gets destroyed.
helikaon864 9 months ago
@helikaon864 I really like their ideals, they're the only species in the galaxy that actually tolerates stuff.
The Eldar are dying and they have only themselves to blame. But the Tau still accept anyone that is willing to join the Greater Good. Even the humans, but only after they get over their little tantrum of hating everything different.
sanktmikael 9 months ago
@sanktmikael You... do realize what happens to all the species they've encounter that haven't wanted to join their "greater good"
Tichondrius1 9 months ago
@Tichondrius1 Yeah, dead if possible.
Are you actually telling me that every other faction doesn't just kill everyone they see? Without giving them a chance?
sanktmikael 8 months ago
@Tichondrius1 Yes, so?
Are you implying that, for example, humans don't kill every living thing they see?
The Tau at least give others a chance.
sanktmikael 8 months ago
@sanktmikael
the Dark Eldar are doing fairly well, and they tolerate stuff too, as long as it brings good "sensation" and "amusement" :D

Mind if i ask, how was this encounter?
Slymind 4 months ago
@Slymind
StarSpawn06 4 months ago
@StarSpawn06
Wow, too bad for Tau, but did any Tau survive at least? i mean, I hear that Tau are rather naive about some stuff in the universe, so, if there were survivors, they at least can spread the word about never trusting the Dark Eldar.
Slymind 4 months ago
@Slymind
The Tau High Command was roughly aware of what was going on,
just that their reinforcements did not arrive in time to save the colonies, and in terms of tactics and combat prowess, the local Tau defenders were "hopelessly outmatched".

And we got thousands if not more WoW fans claiming Warhammer stole from WoW...which we are know can't be possible as it existed WAY before WoW

doomboy334 1 year ago
@doomboy334
No, they're part of the ekklesiarchy.
DarkTemplar40k 1 year ago
@doomboy334
The Sisters of Battle or Adepta Sororitas are not part of any of the Space Marine Chapters. They are the armed fighting force of the Ecclesiarchy responsible spreading Imperial Faith within the Imperium. Experts at rooting out heretics and witches they often join forces with the Ordo Hereticus, one of the branches of the Imquisition that is responsible for destryoing cults of Chaos and other heretical practitioners including non-sanctioned Psykers.
ma82fo 1 year ago
@WiseMonkey888 It's best to try one of the cheaper armies with more plastic miniatures. You might want to try Daemhunters if the Inquisition really interests you. You can easily proxy virtually any Imperium unit as a Daemhunter's unit of some kind, so the need for metal units is greatly reduced. The problem with the witch-hunters is that there are few units that even remotely resemble Sisters of Battle (short of Dark Eldar Whyches, I suppose)

1.when were they founded?
2.do they have their own chapters?
3.who founded the sisters of battle?
plz reply quetions...ty :)
TAWEEYZZ 1 year ago
@TAWEEYZZ something like sisters of battle ( Daughters of Emperor) were here even pre-heresy and during, but real where founded after that as a militant part of newly founded Ecclersiarchy / Cult of God-Emperor.
Chapters not, but they do have their Orders, not all of them are militant. Those militants are based around some Saint.
Sebastian Thor, re-former of Ecclersiarchy formed their core during his lifetime.

TAWEEYZZ 1 year ago
@TAWEEYZZ well DOW is something like parody on 40k. Do you know that every single one sister from militant order is forbidden to ever speak ? :) And yet, in game they are talking...
I have this and previous info from codex of tabletop miniatures, best official source of infos :)
makakooos 1 year ago
@makakooos Never heared about them being disallowed of speaking. Are you sure you're not thinking about the Sisters of Silence? :)
Makkovar 1 year ago
@Makkovar yeah I am sure, full battle sister is forbidden to speak, it is written in codex. It is tradition from pre-heresy times and SoS you mentioned :)
makakooos 1 year ago
@makakooos
...The Sisters of Battle are able to speak, you're thinking of the Sisters of Silence, the Militant arm of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica
FleetOfRetribution 1 year ago
@makakooos This is were the story get complikated, in the horus heresy series they also disgribe them but the sisters of battle is not the same group, you are talking of the sisters of silense and there are some mayor diffrences check out lexikanum.
In the cult of the sisters of silens for example thay are all blanks(antipsykers)
SwedishAirsofter0 1 year ago
@SwedishAirsofter0 I am sorry but Lexicanum is not trustworthy. Everyone can write there anything and it is not so protected like classic wikipedia. I base all my thoughts only on official lore. Yes, they are pariahs, soulless...

@makakooos Sure thats why you always should check out the sources. The horus heresy series have some good facts, think it was in fligth of eisenstein
SwedishAirsofter0 1 year ago
@SwedishAirsofter0 yeah, I red all HH novels :) They were in Flight of Eisenstein a lot and then there is a story in Tales of Heresy and they were involved when Russ invaded Prospero, he brought squads of Sisters and Custodians along with him.
