hi did you do anything special when installing the game on dosbox? because the game refuses to run on 0.74...
first I copied the setup files from the cd on my harddrive, launched setup.exe with dosbox and it installed. then it told me how to launch the game after that it seemed like he wanted to load a "first run" setup but I just get a black screen.
@DBV30 It did run in Windows 9x's DOS mode (the one running inside Windows, without having to quit out of the os), desktop icon and all, but it's a DOS game for sure, unless there's another version of the game I don't know about. There were a few games at that time that had both a Windows and DOS version, such as the Need for Speed, and IndyCar Racing 2... But the version of Screamer I have is certainly DOS only... the same goes for both sequels (Screamer 2 and Screamer Rally)
Yes nowadays it's about 3d graphics with realistic shading n stuff but lack of playability... but back then you have more colourfull sceneries and music.
could you please do a tutorial for this? it won't run on neither of my computers. the idea of having to get an old pc just to run screamer and tnfs pisses me of. i hate bill gates.

Good video but what a bad game. The sequel was the best driving game on PC for YEARS after it was released, but the first one was all looks, no brains.
I still have this game on original cd with original cardboard case it came in, and I loved then and still do! It gave Ridge Racer a run for it's money, except I remember screamer only being available on PC, but that just makes it better in my oppinion!
I know it sounds like a stupid answer, but Screamer sometimes starts and sometimes doesn't.... try a few times... otherwise, you might want to start the game with STARTL.EXE or STARTH.EXE (IIRC)
Now this has what newer games are missing. STYLE. Cars that pop up on two wheels just cornering, a relaxed style of music, colorful scenery. Sure CoD 4 is fun and GT5 but they dont have the style that made these games timeless (and this is comming from a 14 year old).
@hollerritter THANK YOU! Yet another 14, err, I guess 16 year old now, whatever, that gets it! Graphics aren't everything, by no means! Its the style!!!
Do you remember the soundtrack to Screamer2? Well A while ago I uploaded the soundtrack at 320kbps for a few friends. If you want, I could send you the link if you want it. :)
Anno, to play Screamer with fluent frameretes, i needed a p166, to play Screamer 2 i needed a p233mmx, to play screamer rally i needed a pii 450, when will dosbox be that fast??? Does it use multiple cores? :)
Wow. I gave the demo of this game a shot back when it was new but i stuck to NFS1 because I thought Screamer seemed to be way inferior. But after seeing this I'm gonna give it another go in dosbox!
if you own the original CD rom, you can play it in a regular CD player and hear the original tracks.....I have it somewhere on CD, if you really want the songs and don't have the original CD I can rip it into mp3s and send em to u
they don't, screamer when its played over 60 ou 70 fps starts to mess the cars up... it's weird, they start to overlean.. if you play screamer in svga in less fps, it doesn't happen ! (in my win98 MMX 233 processor runs fine in SVGA)
but in my P4 it doesnt run o XP, and on dosbox runs REALLY SLOW
This was the first game I bought for my PC IIRC. Prompted me to upgrade from a 486/66 to a Pentium 66 quick. The music is "Outside In" from MSR under SEGA Jazz Funk.
the song was featured in Metropolis Street Racer on the Dreamcast; the composer is Richard Jacques, he's done a lot of game music, especially for Sega.

that video was played on an Athlon XP 2500+, so I think most modern PC's should be able to run these games quite well in dosbox.

Virtual PC (Free download from Microsofts website) and a copy of Windows 98 would be your best bet if you wanna play old DOS based games..
