@slicingwater I can see how you believe in that. But the killing of animals is as inmoral as it is to kill someones father,mother,child,friend or any person. When you kill an animal, they belong to a family, they have been a animals child, they have been an animals father or mother, and they have been a friend of a human or animal. It is just as wrong as when white men killed the Indians. I hear where you are coming from but the point is not the fact they are being killed it's how they are.

words are a powerful weapon used to belittle or discredit the animals or those that protect them. When a person loves, it's god given, pure thought. but when an animal loves, it's programmed instinct.

I am against killing animals for the sake of killing them, but its really hard not to kill an use them for food and the advancement of medical technology. I mean its hard but if it makes you feel better they didn't die in vain.

You hit upon a good point, if you need an animal to die for you to continue to live there is nothing immoral happening - I mean it has to happen, and you can't blame someone for doing what they can to survive. However there exists no nutrient that we need to eat animal products to gain - in fact many of the diseases we suffer are because of eating animal products. A vegan diet is much healthier, and hence it makes the deaths of these animals needless...

Regardless of whether it is for fur (which there exist alternatives to), meat (for which there exist much healthier and cheaper/more efficient alternatives to) or science (for which there appear to be no needed animal tests anymore).

I guess what I want this video to show is that it isn't just fur/game hunting anymore - more or less all use of animals these days is needless, and so just as wrong.

Well for me, just use reason. An animals life is far more important to them than my taste for a burger made of their flesh. Especially as your taste is a taught thing...

It's just common sense, all be it a common sense that society is only just waking up to. You don't lose out on anything by starting to consume your nutrients from different sources, or wear clothes made of different materials etc. However if you don't start doing this, other individuals will lose out on something - and in the case of animal rights, these things are as extreme as individuals losing out on their lives, their freedom, or having to put up with undue amounts of suffering.

It usually just boils down to "I want to eat" and "Eating meat is evil". Can someone give me a rational(no morals) reason to give up meat?

There is no purely 'rational' reason for any moral - be it for the protection of humans or animals.

However if we are to protect any humans it should be because they can suffer/experience it when we don't (and not just 'because they are a human' as that's a circular, irrational argument), so the same should be true of animals as scientifically speaking they are experiencing individuals too.

And after all we can live healthily without eating humans or animals, so moraly we should.

I have never condoned sacrificing everything you possibly can, for the sake of everyone else, so I would assume your comment is 'where do we draw the line'? I'm sure some people would say draw it at your self and fuck everyone else, and I'm sure others would give all they have to help others. For me it's about using reason. Changing my diet, or buying different cosmetics/clothes is a reasonable demand if some others' life is at stake. And by all scientific paramteres, an animal is an other.

veganism is also cleaner for the planet, animal agriculture and factory farming sucks up an exorbitant amount of resources, like water, and produces even more pollution

Gary77,Other animals don't have an understanding of morality and so aren't demanded to stick by moral rules - that would be pointless (as it also is with children and a lot of mentally disabled adults).The point is we can eat more healthily and easily without killing other humans/animals,and so don't need to cause such suffering or death-so morally we shouldn't, that's the bottom line. Similarly eating plant based products is much more efficient than eating animals and so more people can be fed.

Why is it that animals must have souls for us to give them moral consideration?  That they can suffer is enough. It's an impossible trick to ask that we only regard those with souls as having "rights". It's impossible to prove the existence of a soul. Therefore, we can, as superior humans - claim that we possess (this invisable, unprovable quality)and animals do not. Therefore - we justify exploiting them. That they can suffer is the axiom. animals we buy in a store are farmed raised to be killed and eaten. I would like to see animal abuse and poaching down but if I eat a steak it is no different than a lion hunting down and eating a an antelope. Also many humans would die if it weren't for animal testing.

It is quite different as a lion can't differentiate between right or wrong - just because one species does it, we shouldn't base our human morality on it else the world would be in even more of a state than its in now! From what i know of animal testing in my research - it's, on the whole, based on tradition and not cost or time-effective techniques anymore. Obviously this doesn't even touch on the vital fact that a life is a life - human or non-human.

Also if animals were farmed humanely rather than pumped full of growth hormones and not allowed to exercise or even be outside at all and then killed the second they reach maturity then there wouldn't be so much of a problem, hunting is natural, torture and genetic modification is not.

Well i imagine there would be less of a problem, but 'hunting being natural' is hardly an argument for it being right. So many human natural urges are condemned, it would be odd to use nature as a marker of morality. Most would say we should use moral code to judge our natural instincts, not so much the other way around - else the world would be chaotic.
