Even if Charizard had a thunderpunch, the power of a thunderpunch is 75 and the power of a hydropump is 120. Charizard has high attack power, but wing attack wouldn't even do that great with Blastoise's high defense. So Blastiose would have this match won before it even started if both pokemon are fresh with their full hp.

@RoarOfRa ok, I googled it and your right. This basically means that Charizard is a very bad pokemon choice. It can't combat its weaknesses and it has to many weaknesses anyway. Its weak to water, electic and double weak against rock. Rock can be countered with earthquake though. As your starter pokemon you should definitely take squirtle because its the only starter that doesn't have 2 types(extra weaknesses) + it has high defense.
