then why were you turning the page? It was just changes. You've been on multiple comment boards touting your solo...like it's the first and last one you'll ever have
...weird and sad.
Also, your guitar is dragging and the overall technique of the brass sectin isn't all that tight. Kinda sloppy.
Troll ? and attention I do not need nor will I obtain trying to inform here. This planet is in danger and you think you'll be able to make a living playing Nestico tunes? Maybe to whatever species survives. You're totally clueless about life and "DEATH".
I hope there will be a world for you to achieve your dreams but those chances are disappearing, don't you read newspapers or watch the news? Maybe cause mom and dad are paying the tab for lessons and you "experts" haven't held a job ?
first of all, tenorsaxmaster5 kicks some serious ass for a Junior in high school on this performance. Second,drumminman49, why would you say that their is no future for these kids... half of them are music majors in college, and some are elite. If your credentials are good, then give them suggestions, otherwise, can it.
To Tenorsaxmaster 5, awesome job, long live Steve Marcus
There is no future for these kids in the music business because today's society lacks culture and taste and there is no interest nor are there venues for bands to perform.
You don't have to believe me, ask leaders like Bill Hughes the current leader of the Basie Orchestra. Ask Buddy Morrow who led the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and disbanded. Ask Larry O'Brien the Glenn Miller Orchestra leader. Ask Roger Thorpe - Sammy Kaye Orch. Ask Dick Johnson - Arte Shaw band. Ask Chris Riddle, Nelson's son.
im gonna have to disagree. most of my friends (and might i add, we're in hs) have a HUGE interest in jazz. and there ARE places to play, just not in every state. ask Brian Setzer
Brian Setzer's success is due to his boogie woogie style of Stray Cat stuff and is not of the caliber of musician I am referring to because he's a millionaire and his sidemen are not.
They'll always be places to play, but I'm talking about making a LIVING competing with countless "seasoned" players who can't gigging.
There are "dues" to be paid and sacrifices made being on the road and name calling is immature. Reality or belief? I'm sure you believed in Santa Claus and got real.
ok, i know a guy that was first sax then became lead singer of the GMO. ive talked to him n he says theyve played in many places. and Saint Nicholas WAS a real person
And how much money does he earn? Ashley Hall plays lead trumpet with the Miller band and he worked with me for years and he's barely making a living on the road.
No one has tried to preserve this music more then I have and I did for 20 years as a band leader hiring college players from the University of Miami and Florida Atlantic Uninversity and who have gone on to better paying gigs.
Life time pro's are starving, but you guys know better. Just be prepared for a life of sacrifice for art
drumminman, you are a mood killer and kill joy. I dont know if that makes you feel good to say things like that. I play for my schools jazz band and we play this song. I have a written solo that is very fun to play, but i would like to play my very own version. I have practice different methods and motifs to find the right one. Dont go saying no one has an interest for jazz. Because I do and im sure there are a lot of students that have the same interest. You cant kill our dream. DEBBIE DOWNER!!
Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but all of you have your head burried in the sand if you think you'll be able to make a living playing this music. What am I smoking and I'm a downer? Suggestions? FInd a career you can earn a living with and pursue your musical talents. You have talent, but talent guarantees nothing and your generation has never sacrificed a thing, thus our economic problem. You can dream what you want about anything, but there is reality and years of hard work and sacrifice.
I'm the tenor sax player for this group! Glad you liked it, find the Steve Marcus version with Louie Bellson that was performed for the Buddy Rich Tribute. He is incredible!
Overall a fine performance for a high school band, but a beat was lost at several points throughout the tune including a drum fill. Bravo to the band leader, it's just sad that there is no future for any of these young kids.
Comment as you please, but you can't correct ignorance and a poor performance. What's sad is that you think that your hot and your NOT and have no future in the music business.
It's quite true about correcting ignorance. However, this was actually quite a good performance for a high school jazz band. This particular group of young musicians are not only talented but they are young people with work ethic and character. I believe whatever their future endeavors may be, they will be successful. After all, they are kids. It's kind of nasty to put kids down and tell them they have not future in music. You don't have a clue.
Your clueless because these kids WILL NEVER make a living playing jazz or swing music. IT'S DEAD!!! Dream on... I wish I was wrong, but I know giants in the industry that are hurting and fighting to make a buck to survive after a lifetime of tremendous musical contributions. The best any of these kids can hope for is to become "week end" warriors.
30 years ago, the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orch. played at the Village Vangard for $25.00 a night. Show me how you can make a living today Einstein.
ok ive looked around for ideas on the tenor solo cus thats mine in my high school jazz band (arlington jazz machine) and that was the best one iver heard, tip of the hat to the tenor sax

we're doing this in jazz. it's not the rhythm that's hard. it's just the range...

Overall a fine comment from druminman, although it's too bad that old, washed up hacks come onto YouTube to insult high school students.
Also, Dick looks like someone pooped on his upper lip.
