  • This music is Godly Awesome

  • I would love to go to a Golden Sun Soundtrack Concert, but he never did one, why, oh why? T_T

  • If you listen to Valhalla Knights: Elder Saga music, you'll notice that Motoi was influenced by hitoshi sakimoto style of composition. The reason, I have no idea, but I guess he wanted to try something new. So far the game has a great soundtrack because Motoi knows what he is doing, lol. I just love Japanese composers.

  • He's like Neil Peart, but with keyboards

  • @stewinsalot

Who the hell is Neil Peart?

  • @BurtonNewsted he's the drummer for the band Rush. He's known for having a gigantic drum set. haha I guess that's a bad reference to make on a video about VG music

  • @stewinsalot

Well, if you compare him to a Rush member, he'd be more like Geddy Lee.

  • @BurtonNewsted except that he completely blows Geddy Lee out of the water on keyboards. Geddy couldn't even finish the piano lessons he paid for! He should stick to what he's good at (bass)

  • @stewinsalot

    AND vocals! ;)

  • He's the God of video game music.

  • Baten Kaitos?

  • he's pimpin in that silk shirt im not kidding

  • WTF WITH THE CROWD?! AFTER ALL THAT EPICNESS THAY JUST CLAP?! NO SHOUTING? JUMPING AROUND? CASTING EXPLOSION SYMBOLOGY OR SOMETHING?! or side kicking?

  • @666Deathscythe I had a friend who went to Japan and watched the live action Beck movie. He told me that he felt like rocking out to the music but noticed that everyone else seemed to have a respective viewing of it (if that makes any sense) and didn't do that. So it's probably a cultural thing.

  • For those who want to play along with this song ALONG with other Motoi Sakuraba epicness, I've created a backing track for it. A medley actually (Star Ocean 2nd story, Valkyrie Profile, Till the end of time and Last hope, in that manner)

  • I can't believe what I am hearing with my very two ears -- this is AMAZING!

  • You know you're a bad ass keyboard player when you have 12 keyboards surrounding you.

  • SURROUNDED

    Clif - Ok..Bad situation!

    Clif - Hammer of Might!

Clif - I prefer a more worthy opponent

  • 300% Bonus!

  • faize:OMG we r famous!

    faize:>.< OUT OF CONTROL XD

  • Fayt: Oh-ho, a REAL concert!

  • @menslady125 made me lol

  • My vocabulary sucks, I can't describe how amazing Motoi Sakuraba is.

  • There's a difference that I've noticed between Western and Japanese video game composers. Western composers favorite film-like video game music with a heavy emphasis on orchestration, but also techno/trance to an extent. However, Sakuraba and Uematsu are two examples of composers who get their inspirations from elsewhere: Jazz, Latin, Classical, Baroque, but most notably Progressive Rock. I think game music needs to stop trying to be film music; it needs to be different, like Sakuraba.

  • @DarkDruid7 Yeah, I know how you feel. I'm a student composer at the moment, I would say that I'm heavily influenced by Sakuraba with what I want to make, but the classes I'm just starting have more of that western approach to how things will be done (for the first semester, then it will be about creating your own style). A lot of the music's good between the two ends, but definitely agree on the Western approach.

  • @mochico88

If you want your Sakuraba influence to show in your music, read over the scores for his music (by this I mean a MIDI file or fan-made sheet music) and see the techniques he uses. Of course, if you're TOO influenced by one composer, you'll sound just like them, which is why it's good to study other composers from different periods and genres. Sakuraba, himself, was influenced by Bach, jazz artist Chick Corea, and progrock band U.K., among others, which defined his own sound.

  • @DarkDruid7 yeah definitely. I'm not looking to be a copy of him that's for sure.

  • @mochico88

Well if you ever make any compositions, you should post them to your channel. As an aspiring composer, myself, I like to see what others with similar influences can make.

  • @DarkDruid7 Not only that, but the fact that Japanese composers actually give a damn about having melodies, themes, and motifs/leitmotifs that run throughout the entire soundtrack. I can't recall a single Western game offhand who had memorable music because they *ALL* sound the same -- bland, tutti orchestral sounds with no substance.

  • @Viertel well there are a couple westen soundtracks that are good. Gears of war is one. the games that have the best music in my opinion are indie games though.

  • @Viertel I haven't played it, but I'd guess the game Advent Rising had a great soundtrack from Tommy Tallarico.

  • motoi sakuraba is the best composer !! and after him for me is the other legend Nobuo Uematsu .. really awesome

  • @Lloydo111 I wholeheartedly agree =)

  • @Lloydo111 Yes, for me too. Motoi is the best game composer, Nobuo is second place :) !

  • Oh god this song makes me want to go prevent the Mars lighthouse from being lit

  • I love japanese music way better than American

  • @darkveroth Yeah, But the game music in Monkey Island 1 & 2 are awesome. And what about Chris Huelsbeck who did music for Turrican. He was amazing !

  • I've been practicing this song on keyboard for quite a while, and it's fun! If I ever get a webcam, I will post a cover of this song.

  • omg 2 keyboards is well enough!!

  • He's very talented. I love Motoi's work.

  • wanna break into tears..........

  • holy crap, that's awesome, but I thought Motoi was a girl!! Actually the same woman that composed the Kingdom hearts ost.

  • @MoribundFantasy You're thinking of Yoko Shimomura. She also did Legend of Mana and Parasite Eve's soundtracks.

  • Motoi is really good on the keyboards

  • Is Motoi his name or a band name?Sry,i dunno much

  • @jlyh55 Motoi Sakuraba is the keyboard player ; he's a freelance videogame music composer. Also did a couple of solo/sideproject records. This is a one-off live rendition of themes from games soundtracks considered "classics" as far as console RPG OST go (talk bout a niche !).

    Hope that helps :)

  • @jlyh55 He's a composer for various JRPG's including the Star Ocean, Golden Sun, and Valkyrie Profile series. He can also play the keyboard like the devil himself. Look him up on wikipedia if you're really curious.

  • Fantastic live (Iceblade !!;-o))

  • @ 2:35 - 2:53 , AWSMMMM!

  • Its cool how they show battles in Star ocean 3 on the little televisions :D

  • He rocks, 'nuff said.

  • I came. I saw. I came again.

  • He is one of my favorite composers, but IMO I think he was better in the 90s. If you like his music try listening to bands like YES and other progressive rock, most of his inspiration is taken from those bands.

  • Omg, Motoi Sakuraba is the Epic music composer, and i mean it!

The music is cool and exciting with alot of sync and orgel tones and more.

Like to see what the future of him in gaming would be, i sure hope he keep the same music composing !

  • That fuckin' bass line is awesome!

  • Motoi Sakuraba rocks! ^_______^

  • WOW!!!

  • AWESOME!

  • this guy is a legend. love his musics.

  • This is just so much better than the inagme version.

    Fucking amazing.

  • "Palm Of Destruction"

  • AIMING DEVICE!!!

  • GOd i love how japanese put soo much effort on their videogames

  • One word....EPICNESS!!!

  • This guy is playing on more than 10 keyboards, sometimes two at the same time. It's like he's on some kind of jaw-dropping musical throne; the king of MIDI ascended.

    That's beast.

  • @SilverBellsAbove think about harold faltermeyer, playing "axel f." (beverley hills cop), he played on multiple keyboards too

  • I freakin love Sakuraba!! (no homo)

  • @kimonji His music is awesome. I agree.

  • "its not the great who are strong. Its the strong who are great!"

  • " Allright Real Fight" !!!!

    " Flying Guilloitin " !!!

  • "death awaits the overconfident. REMEMBER THAT!"

  • "i preferred a more worthy opponent"

  • MAX SHOCKWAVE!!!

  • someone have the sheets????

  • @hectoradan4

If you go to VGmusic.com, there are a few great midi interpretations of the song. If you have a program that can turn read midi files and turn them into notes (like Sibelius), you can have sheet music!

  • FIRE BOOOOOLT!

  • 12 rows of keys couldn't be enough right?

  • lol yeah, he has like 12 key boards X3

  • Ill say this he does a good job for making the music for the golden sun saga.

  • all i hear in my head is, "SPHERE OF MIGHT!!!, YAAA! BLADE OF FURY!! TOO SLOW" lmfao, one of the best rpgs of all time

  • FIST OF MIGHT!

  • Is Motoi the guy at the keyboards? If yes, he's even better live. :D

  • yes

    and I know right?? XD

  • wow. motoi has great skills

  • Motoi is verrry good

  • @NeoTStyle mhmm...guy at the keyboard :D

  • @NeoTStyle i have the ps2 version of this set as my morning alarm.

  • wow japanese develepor put so much in to making a videogame. who is better? him or nobou

  • I haven't heard much of Sakuraba, so I'm not really sure. I love Nobuo Uematsu's work, though. I'm gonna listen to more of Sakuraba's music tonight, though. This song sounds kinda like a Black Mages track, and I'm really loving it.

  • I think... No one's better between theme. They all have their own style, uniqueness, so it can't be compared..

Motoi always good at blood-pumping BGMs, although some of his (motoi) work is pretty similar to the other... Nobuo is excellent at orchestration (Liberi Fatalli FTW) and have more variants of his songs than Motoi's... Again, it's jut my opinion...

  • i agree totally. BUT.. what if somehow they did a song together? i bet that would be the most awesome theme ever lol

  • Maybe... :/ Nobuo and Motoi have complete different styles. I don't think it will fit well. They are both great musicians, nonetheless, but I personally think they sound better doing their own things.

  • Combining the two of them with Kouichi Sugiyama (Dragon Quest), Koji Kondo (Mario/Zelda), Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Xenosaga I), Hironobu Sakaguchi (FFXII) and Yoko Shimomura (KH, Mario RPG) would create the ultimate composer, pretty much. I love many compositions from all seven, and the closest the gaming world has come to a game with all of them is SSBB with its stunning array of tracks and composers.

  • Hironobu Sakaguchi isn't a composer, instead he is a game producer (FF 1-10 /Blue Dragon / Lost Odyssey)

  • He probably meant Hitoshi Sakimoto for FFXII - btw, thanks for your videos summersault.

  • u got a point there. i wish i could play like them.

  • This live version kicks the ass of the game version.

  • He never stop's with his top quality music!

  • 2:37

love when Sakuraba uses that instrument

  • Hey Demon I remember you from the SO4 forums. Whats up man :D

  • I'll guess...Khainox?

  • Yeup :)

  • Sup!! :D

So were you hoping to hear it in SO4 too?

  • Comment removed

  • i wish he would have done the music in radiata stories ... the game is awesome but the music is horrible TAT

  • I agree with you there!

  • I love his music, he's a genius.

  • Hey, is my PS2 on? Sounds like it..

  • It is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE for me to decide between this and The True Mirror. xD Sakuraba is amazing.

  • LOVING IT!!!

  • Wish they could zoom only on the pianist so I could try it the whole song and not only the first 40 seconds XD

  • 1:45 is the hardest for me on piano -_-'

  • That chord progression? Sounds nuts.

  • This is my favorite theme from star ocean, always exciting fighting with this ^_^

  • Lol the pianos x'D Not sure he's got enough ^^

I love this guy for creating so good video game themes!

  • This song is the perfect battle music!

  • Battle theme of star ocean 3, i remember....that was so excellent !!!!!

  • Does anyone think that this sounds like Golden Sun..?

  • same composer =)

  • O.O Rock on then! and awesome that I found another Golden Sun lover.

  • Count me in your festivity of having found another Golden Sun Fan, for I am one.

  • Sweet :D

  • haha its ok i also heard the strong resemblence of the Star Ocean 3 songs and the Golden Sun songs until I figured out that it was by the same composer XD

  • love Golden Sun too, awesome game!

  • Sadly I lost my original Golden Sun in a restaurant... on my birthday... along with all my other games. Sighs.

  • did motoi sakuraba composed that?

  • yes

  • OMG in 2:28 i saw pepitta doing KABOOM

  • Yeah Motoi Sakuraba!! SO3 is da best ps2 game!!

  • this is total gold T.T so awesome, i can`t sto crying...buckets of tears (cries of happyness)

  • D: I don't have SO3 yet....

  • really? you should get it, its a really good game. It's two discs long, but it's worth the gameplay to see the ending :)

  • Just like SO2, eh? If you really say it's really good, then it shall be my sister's mission to get that game since I'm the one in-charge of getting VPs...:D That's good :D Thanks!!

  • You're welcome! It has some serious good graphics, and the voice acting isn't bad at all XD. You should get it soon before it stops selling in stores...I tried getting Tales of the Abyss but it stopped selling in stores:( ...so you should get SO3 soon!

  • There's still some Tales of the Abyss in gamestores at our area....

  • really...? lucky...there's none in my area...

  • I had to get it imported xD Great game.

  • There's nothing eBay can't solve B-).

  • Wrong: I wanted to buy uranium and I can't do that on eBay.

  • lmao, playing SO3 while listening to this song on YouTube is pretty awesome.

  • This is the best song on the entire soundtrack!

  • video game music dream team: Motoi Sakuraba, Yasunori Mitsuda and Nobuo Uematsu (hope i spelled that last name right! LOL XD!)

  • No The ultimate Dream team would Be Koichi Sugiyama, Motoi Sakuraba, Yasunori Mitsuda, and Nobuo Uematsu

  • These guys are hands-down geniuses individually, but their styles are too remotely separated to draw any common ground other than that they all compose for videogames.

    Imagine a progressive Bach, Irish-Celtic, 1960s Disney-esque, and whatever-the-hell-Uematsu is thrown into a blender.

It could sound hideous. Or unprecedented, unparalleled and unparallelable genius.

  • I love how there are only three musicians on stage with the song still sounding amazingly powerful and energetic.

<3 Motoi Sakuraba. He is the best.

  • I like his fighting of the spirit

    from almost every tales of...

  • He is the same guy that makes Tales of battle themes, isn't he?

I think he rulez just like composer from Final Fantasy^^

  • Motoi Sakuraba is the main musician for the Tales themes, however, some games he didn't create the music in (ToS I think)

  • No...he didn't do Tales of Legendia...Go Shiina did the soundtrack for ToL.

Sakuraba did in fact do ToS.

  • He did? I thought it was a dude named Ichiko or something. x_x

  • I think Ichiko made the theme music,no?I mean, the japanese one, that is singed

  • Umm... That was Day After Tomorrow, that made the main theme song.

  • LOL, and ironically enough Legendia had the worst soundtrack.

  • What's wrong with Japanese Jazz? Well...I have the soundtrack myself...I never opened it...but I have all the songs...it's quite good...except the battle system was kinda...not the same. Only if they pulled off something like Tales of Rebirth...then it would be better.

  • Whoa whoa, when did I say anything was wrong with Japanese Jazz?

  • IMO, I think Motoi Sakuraba is slightly better than Motai Sakruba. xD

  • es uno de los mejore compositores

  • I like "Stab the Sword of Justice" better, but SO3's battle theme is still awesome

  • man... good stuff

  • OMG THIZ moo-sic iz fab!!!!

  • nice

  • but this is also when you battle in Star Ocean III :P AND THIS IS IS COOOOOL!!!!

  • i love this music but voice mixed version is better XD

  • omgz! they also do music for the third star ocean?! yes, i've played part two and three...

  • no, you are a dumb ass, it is from Star Ocean: The Second Story for PSX

  • No, you are the dumbass...this is the battle theme from Star Ocean 3 -_-

  • also in star ocean 3 tool

  • The battle theme for Star Ocean The Second Story is Stab the Sword of Justice. That and this don't really sound alike, except in the beginning.

  • HAH well, that shown him LOL

  • That's just funny ... yes, the style is the same, and the beginning gives you the Star Ocean feel.

    It's SO3, for sure.

  • no i can even prove it this song is from SO3 a regular battle is when it starts

  • yeah, i went through all the dialogue/intros of Star Ocean, then the very first battle I got into it had this upbeat music sequence. I was like, huh?????? COOL! Weeeee!

  • I uploaded all the music =DDD

  • YES THORNESS YOU DID! THANKS PAL, GODBLESS YOU! "Requiem for a Saint" <3

  • this frikin rocks!!! ROck on Motoi-sama!!!

  • this music is too beautiful!!!!

  • I could listen to this all day!!

  • awesome dude! this star ocean is my favorite
