@K4MR4N1UK123 sorry for the late response, THIS IS DONE WHEN THE IRON IS OFF, it saids on the video at 1:29 then it saids when to plug it in at 2:17. Sorry if you burn yourself. wrap the solder when cold and not plugged in.
@bryanfuel just use the file to reshape it, kind of like a pencil, you can do this till the copper tip is all gone. you can also make it flat instead of pointie
@JulianManzara yes you do, it wont come off, every time you wipe it it'll be of the color of the solder. after you do this, before you start to solder (when is hot) wipe the tip and it will be ready to solder
I got extremely fine grit sand paper that got the job done! :) then I did what you did in the video, that's the most amazing technique thanks theseventhhero. :)
I have the same iron as you. I just started using it but no matter what the tip stays black the larger cylinder is tinted a dark blue. The solder never sticks when I try tinning it. Does filing it allow it to stick? Nice song and video btw god bless you
thanks for the how to video, been helpful for an absolute beginner like myself. Question though: where do you get a soldering iron stand with sponge like that?
@149328 Thanks for your comment. I got mine from Radio Shack, its called "third hand" cost me like $20 or $30 bucks. you could also check ebay search for "third hand soldering"
i don't understand why people put background music in tutorials instead of just explaining whats going on in the video. And...the song sucked. Good demonstration tho.
@Ryinstyles well you could do them however you want...that is your opinion...if you dont like the music on the videos that people take time in doing them, just mute ur speakers or play your own music.
Can you give me some advice. When I wipe the soldering iron on a damp sponge, it gradually starts to chip away at the tip and destroys it. Then I have to buy new tips. How can I clean the tip while soldering without destroying the tip?
funny it happens to me too, what I do is: I use the file and reshape the whole tip again, if you haven't throw your old tips away, you could reshape them until u cant anymore, its like sharpen a pencil. if you are using the "Gun" type then you do need to get a new one, i prefer the pencil type. hope this helps
aaargh it hurst man i burnt my hand doing that? how do you hold the hot iron just like normal?
my hand is still hurtin me after several days.... i have given up on soldering and binned my iron.

Do you suggest doing this with solder wire with flux inside the wire, Because I tried and it fell right off :(

do you wipe off the extra while it's still hot? Wouldn't it all come off?

@TheSeventhHero
Thank you for this
but every time i put solder on it just "balls" off, (solder goes into a ball and falls off, 90% burning my hand)
how do i stop this? my old (about 15 year old) soldering iron didnt do this..
it feels like oil on the iron
madog4uk 10 months ago
@madog4uk hello there, your need a "Resin-Core" solder. if not change your tip for a copper tip. Hope this helps.
TheSeventhHero 10 months ago
@madog4uk also wrap it when its cold, after you wrap it plug it in :D
TheSeventhHero 10 months ago
@TheSeventhHero
ok
iv noticed i have alloy 60/40 resin multicore solder with flux, just did the wrap in solder and it still comes off
il wait for it to get cold, rub it down with wet dry sandpaper and try again
Thank you
madog4uk 10 months ago
@madog4uk Basically what you need to do is clean all the black burn of the tip, but try to do it with a fine grade.

60/40 isn't the size of the solder, it's the composition; lead/tin!

God Bless.
