It's a shame that this good movie is fairly obscure today and it is rediculously hard to find. :( I think someone would post this movie, if only they could find it. I know I would.
In the movie "Summer of Sam", Son of Sam's dog tells him to "Kill, kill, kill". Check it out on youtube -- "Summer of Sam dog". Payback for the killing fields of dog pounds.
The simple fact is that the Eddie Murphy version was not intended to be anything like this. What could be like this? Wisely, his version didn't try to compete with or remake this.
@Steeleperfect You are correct there, I'm not sure what they were going for. Either way it still pretty lame film...
*I was one of the unfortunate children of that time period who was supposed to "love" it. God, I'm so sick of critics who think they know what kids are going to love and hate.
@JuanMacready What does being bisexual have to do with anything? Who cares if he was bisexual or not...that's not an insult. That's like pointing out that someone's black as a way to insult them. It's not an insult. You are a bigot.
And who gives a fuck what flops or not?? Transformers 2 was a "hit," Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was a flop. Good films actually rarely make money.
@JuanMacready I'm really not interested in trolls who spend every second of their day insulting actors and films to get under peoples' skins. I know who you are, I know that you frequent every board from youtube to IMDB....
That's right. I've seen you on IMDB you little troll...
You really have no life at all, you probably molest the neighborhood kids in your basement. So stop talking to me, stalking me, or I will send the police to your house to bust your sleazy ass.
@Sshelly34213 To answer your question on the imdb, the reason Richard Burton never won an Oscar was because he was a talentless overacting ham who only copied Olivier, and a wooden film actor who couldn't act at all.
When did I ask that question? I don't believe I ever did.
Ok, can you provide me with a cinematic analysis of acting in general, why Richard Burton's performances are not a good example based on said analysis, and compare him to every other actor every year he made a film?
It's fun to have an opinion, but that doesn't really mean shit unless you can back it up with tangible proof.
And you didn't answer the question I asked in my last post.
@etbella3 You have no idea what you are talking about. I mean, you aren't just ignorant. You're clueless. I don't think it's possible for you to be more wrong. Go get an education. Learn the facts. Or, if you are too lazy to do that, then maybe you just shut the hell up.
my teacher wants us to do this musical. we're passing out razors at my friends party on saturday. like seriously, 14-18 year olds who already face ostracism for being in the drama program are going to dress up like animals and sing? FUCK. NO.
it's not because eddie murphy's black, you morons. it's what's beyond it, can't you see that you blindfolded clowns? can't you see the refinement and the class and the beauty of this work?
Sir Rex's version is the better one(terrific masterpiece, indeed), but Eddie's one's not a dumb one, though I just prefer Sir Rex's one(It had black people, too, and I love black people!).
As you see, Sir Rex did musical while Eddie did comedy. They're wonderfully different actors in different periods.
@RNOB@RNOB UM HELLO? Eddie Murphy played a fucking Asian in Norbit.
Just because someone hates a black "actor"-is that what call that shit he's been doing for the last 10 years?-that doesn't mean they think African Americans are inferior to him,
No, Eddie Murphy is not inferior to Rex Harrison because he is black, he is inferior to Rex Harrison because he can't act his way out of a paper bag.
The remake is also inferior to the original because it sucked large amounts of balls.
@JuanMacready Dude...stop stalking me, or I'm going to get the police involved in this shit. I'm not even joking here.
I know you don't understand logic or reasoning, but Carol Landis and Rachel Roberts were not mentally imbalanced people. Rachel Roberts was clinically depressed and an alcoholic for one thing, Carol Landis clearly had bipolar disorder. Whether it was Rex Harrison or Cary Grant who were involved with the two ladies at the time, they still would have done what they did.
@wylon87 Please don't be an idiot. How many innocent people has Eddie Murphy killed? If you're going to compare someone to Hitler, make sure it's someone who has slaughtered countless people, not merely someone whose films failed to amuse you. Otherwise, you're insulting everyone who suffered under Hitler.
I stand corrected, they made an animated version of jungle book of the 1942 movie in 1967 and did feature the song The Bare Necessities. Good call. That being said, however, there's no comparison between the two tunes. The Academy made the proper selection.
well i wouldnt say that, its a pretty close call in my books, in fact id probably only vote for this one because i love animals so much, the bare necesseties is more up-beat, lol
I have nothing wrong with throwing Eddie Murphy in movie and giving him the ability to talk to animals BUT TO TAKE THE NAME OF ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHILDHOOD MOVIES and not even acknowledge what it once was pisses me off. Instead lets throw a annoyingly un-funny man in it, throw some animal fart jokes and pop culture references and theres your fucking movie! AAARRGGGHHHH!
I agree!!! COME ON!!! At least in the original he LEARNS to speak to them! OH NO! I said the taboo word in entertainment today... "LEARNING" no... just give him magic powers... that's good enough... it's a decent movie, but compared to the original it's garbage... and I can't stand that almost no one knows about this masterpiece!!!
Oh my god!!! i've had this song stuck in my head for weeks now! i tried looking for it but i only found the eddie murphey version. i was starting to get depressed. my friends havent seen this version, im gonna make them watch it. :) 500x better than the new ones. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING!!!
@thekeys78 I hace seen them both. And how can you say they are unrelated. They are both about this guy who can talk to animals. And clearly The Eddie Murphey one was based off of this one. They are not very much alike but you can't say they are unrelated.
I never saw this movie so I dont know if it is good or not but I can say that the victory of this song at the oscars over Mrs. Robinson by Simon and Garfunkel its one of the biggest injustices I ever saw at the academy.
@Kericles Mrs Robinson is NOT their best work...if there is one massively overrated song in history, Mrs Robinson is definitely it. I love Simon and Garfunkel, but that song has become so overplayed that it's actually irritating. What about Sound of Silence?? Surely THAT is a bigger injustice to not see such a profound song get ignored by the academy. Overall, the score for Doctor Dolittle, in my opinion, definitely overshadows the score for The Graduate. It's just a better written score..
