There's no such thing as a "lightscribe laser" in there (think about it: it's fixed so it would just be able to draw a single circle on the disc if it was some sort of laser). Besides the disc is rotated by a brushless dc motor, not a stepper.

You're wrong, there are no steppers inside a dvd drive. The main motor is a BLDC and the one in the laser mechanism is a servo.

the ps2 does not have a laser which can write data onto discs. ones which can are ones fron dvd writers. these are more powerful. however you can try if you can focus the beam from the laser enough to cause burning. i dont assure the ps2 approach though.

about 250ohm resistor. forget the capacitor. and yeah, a laser Would burn out on a direct 3volts presuming its off the average adapter or something.

the condenser(capacitor) maybe not but it is advised that you use a resistor since the laser is a sensitive electronic component and cannot handle high currents, the resistor will help the laser from burning out

assuming you know what a circuit is, a resistor will go in series on the (-) side. so the laser and the resistor are in series, though, remember, resistors have specific values, too small one will make the resistor hot and burn out and a too highly resistive resistor will make nothing happen, so if you have a few resistors, give them all a try. if you dont want to get complex with the resistors, just use 2 AA batteries which have low power anyway so wont burn the laser out.
