  • I don't know if you were improvising or playing a prepared piece but either way, it's incredibly beautiful.

  • Hello ! Excuse me but I did not know this instrument. I thought it was a baglama saz. The setar is similar of saz, isn't it ? Best wishes, Luques - Brasil - bagpipe maker

  • @simoneguerami1944 Thanks for the comments. It definitely takes quit a bit of time. Just be patient.

  • I'm going to make my own setar, but give it a sitar bridge to get more buzz out of it, plus I plan on playing my setar with mizrabs liek the sitar players do to get a combo sound from the two.

  • this instrument is almost identical to the Albanian Cifteli, but it has such a different sound.

  • This is a sad song.

  • Very nice,

I am going to Iran soon, how much is a decent setar??

  • about 45 to 85 euro's

  • I'm no setar player, and I've heard some so called masters in various musical instruments who to me had no presence, or no feeling but mastery of skill. Without the presence and feel the music is nothing... thank you for this beautiful music and sharing your presence.

  • I was tuning my setar, when the 4th. string snapped, now it is making honor to its name seh-tar("three strings"-tar).

One question, anyone here recognizes the name "Qeily zado" or "Qeily zard"(setar maker in Iran)?

  • I know Qeily Zard translates to "Really Yellow".

  • the camera man should not get distracted or bored and instead of showing us the pretty pictures in the room, he should at all times focus on the musician. And stop moving the camera so much. Find a position that is good and keep it there. As for the musician, that was truely amazing. Especially towards the end. Well done.

  • I was wondering, what are a few of the basic techniques to be mastered when learning to play a Setar? Is there any thing You should look for in buying a Setar? Your video and your play are both quite amazing!

  • nice

  • Very nice, nice technique too. Is the setar always played in a slow manner? How does it sound when you play a party / dance song :-))

  • Thanks for the comment my friend. Setar is not a right instrument for large size parties. It's one of the most spiritual lute played by soufies. It's always calm. they say it's sound is too much for on audience and not enough for two people.

    Thanks a lot.

  • I think this is a saying attributed to Saba. They asked him how large should the audience be for a setar performance and he supposedly said an audience of two people is too small for and three is too many. I may be wrong of course.

I like your style of slow playing. Your melodic structure provides enough interest to sustain the playing speed which is always a good goal. Now if I may say, the sound "appears" to be a bit hollow, possibly due to the live recording i.e. camera distance.

  • It is actually:

1 is too small and 2 is too many!

  • The reason for the sound being different is that the soundboard is made out of spruce and not mulberry (toot). He told me this a while back when I asked him about the instrument. Great playing though!

  • mamnon, besiar delnanaz minavazid

  • Very nice. The more I listen to it, the more I enjoy it. Thanks

  • I always enjoy your music and listen to it at work. I have forwarded this link to all my coworkers.

Keep posting your great music and thanks for sharing.

  • caim and spiritual. Is this an old style playing? sound is so sustainable in your setar. Thank you.

  • عالی عزیز. عجب حالی !!
