Interesting fact is that Sonic 4 and sonic and knuckles were the same game until Sega realized that game file was too big for on cartridge, and to not waste a perfectly good cartridge they decided to make S&K a lock on that not only would complete sonic 3, but would unlock knuckles in sonic 2.

@S3Kglitches The version that starts in Mushroom Hill zone is Sonic & Knuckles. This one starts in Angel Island zone, I don't know if it's called Sonic 3 & Knucles or just Sonic 3.

@MegaMatute Sonic 3 is game which has no Super emeralds, only chaos. You can't play as Knuckles there. It starts in Angel Island zone and ends in Launch base zone, by final boss. Sonic and Knuckles starts in Mushroom Hill zone, ends in Death Egg zone. You can't play as Tails. If you put Sonic 3 cartrige to Sonic & Knuckles cartrige, you'll get Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Starts in Angel Island Zone and ends in Death Egg zone. You can play with all 3 characters (Sonic, Tais, Knuckles).

@chrisclan nothing at first until you collect all 7 super emeralds IF you have collected all the original 7 chaos emeralds first. Once you get all 7 super emeralds, sonic becomes hyper sonic, Knuckles becomes hyper Knuckles and Tails becomes super tails, each have their own special ability.

@BOOMBLAZE100 Lol, that's because it was included as a "spoiler" for Sonic 3 & Knuckles, which was originally supposed to be one game. Time constraints forced SEGA to release Sonic 3 before it was finished. That's also why it had so many bugs in it.

there is also another hidden stage. When robotnik is taking the master emerald use debug mode to gain free control of sonic and if you havent gotten any super emeralds, stand on one of the grey emerald spots

@ShadooTheHedgehog Those are easy. Collecting the blue orbs is just a matter of figuring out the fastest route if the speed gets to ya. The tunnel races were all skill in 2 and after the 3rd one the difficulty spikes up dramatically. You literally are given just enough rings in certain segments like the first 3rd of the fifth run and you have to grab them off the ceiling, the walls, everywhere.
