Good stuff you've posted for us wrench turners that need to see it once and can do! The Idler Pulley replacement video especially helps with our 2008 Escape with 102,660 miles.
@BLaDU2B The only videos that have me speaking are the Jetta videos. I meant to share everything I did on those videos with the DSG service as an exception. The first Escape video started off as just visual notes for me, but then I decided to share it. I then rationalized that if the exposure is worldwide, someone in Thailand may not want to bother translating my "speak." So, the subsequent videos were mutes. I fully understood that I wouldn't please everyone, no one can. Well, maybe Elvis can.
@2009VWJETTATDI That's completely stupid. You are saying you had sound, decided not to speak and be silent using hand gestures, because people in Thailand (insert other non-English speaking country) wouldn't understand you. FAIL!
I wonder how many of the 7,000 views you have were watched outside of the USA since its a FREAKING American made car! Even if you DID talk would those non-English speakers miss out on anything? YOU'RE MUTE IN THE VIDEO!
@pachucobro You own your opinion, be it here for all to read. I don't know you, but I apologize for having insulted and/or annoyed you. I had my reason for being mute at the time I recorded the video. It's a great American car and as a matter of fact it's up to 130,000 miles now with no budget-breaking repairs. Again, I apologize to you for provoking you. Merry Christmas and be safe.
Wow, this video is very informative! I'm wondering if the problem I'm having with my 2003 Ford Escape is because of this IAC valve. When the car is in idle (with my foot on the brake and the car in "drive") it jerks forward constantly until I start driving again. It never stalls, just jerks like it's going to stall. Do you think I need to clean/replace the IAC valve??? Any help you could give me would be great! Thanks so much!
@braty0007 I have read in a service manual that the IAC is "non-cleanable", at least on this vehicle. However, you can remove yours and take a look at it's condition. I sprayed mine down with carburator cleaner to remove the "visible" grime, and I did this as a preventive measure since I did not have any "throttling" problems. Consider purchasing an IAC Valve (and gasket). If you aren't touching the gas pedal and your engine revs uncommanded, your IAC Valve is a prime suspect.
@braty0007 Hi mate, I have EXACTLY the same problem with my 2001 Mazda Tribute (it is the same as Ford Escape) -- it jerks forward at idle when in "Drive". Have you fount out what was the cause in your case? Was it your IAC valve or something different? Thanks!
@ilg124 I took my car to my mechanic and without telling him what I thought it was, he said the problem was most likely my IAC valve. He said that he would clean it (not replace it) and see if that helped. Since then, my car STILL does the whole jerking in idle thing. I'm going to take it back to him to see if he can REPLACE the valve and the gasket as suggested above. I will let you know if this works. As for the "cleaning" of the valve, it didn't work for me :/
@braty0007 I have cleaned my IAC valve, and then installed a new replacement IAC valve with new gasket a few days ago - neither made any difference, I still have the same jerking problem. Since along with the jerking the car became difficult to start from time to time even though the starter motor works fine, and "Check Engine" light comes up - I guess it might have something to do with the fuel delivery system. Do you have any starting problems in your case mate?
@ilg124 (1 of 2) I haven't taken my car back to my mechanic, but I'm glad you told me that you replaced the valve and it did nothing. Another suspicion I had was the type of fuel I put in the car. Right before the problem started, we moved to another part of town and haven't been going to "Chevron" for our gas...we were putting "Shell" gasoline in. The problem started a month or so after that. I now put only Chevron in and it seems to not be happening.
@ilg124 (2 of 2) BUT, it's also been cooler outside and it seems to happen more during the summer (I live in Las Vegas). To test out my theory, I put a full tank of Shell gasoline in recently and sure enough...it started jerking again! So, I will probably wait till it gets hotter outside and see if my car still does it with the Chevron gasoline. Keep me posted as I will you. Thanks!
@braty0007 It seems to be a fuel-related problem indeed. I used to put only premium petrol in it, but then switched to a cheap brand unleaded a few months ago. Jerking started approximately 1 month after using the cheap fuel. Moreover, a few days ago I put lots of fuel system cleaner in it (mix of different brands, 4 bottles at once instead of just 1 bottle as recommended), and filled it with 10% ethanol fuel to clean everything.
@braty0007 AND, after running about 100K on this mix jerking completely disappeared! So I will keep my fingers crossed and will only fill it with premium fuels again. Let's see how it goes -- I will keep you updated.
@ TheFailnoob The IAC Valve controls engine idle speed when the gas pedal is not being stepped on, and a few other things. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve does just that, ports exhaust gas back to the intake manifold to aid in less emissions out the tail pipe.

You had sound, why the "silent movie" approach? You could have spoken and described each part and what you were doing.

Is the IAC valve the same as the EGR valve?
