I have to agree with urKoolUncle, I was going through a horrible divorce when this came out, it so described my relationship with my ex, bittersweet memories, thanks for posting!
Not sure why this song always brings tears to my eyes: ALWAYS. (Guess it's the perfect harmonies, tab and the reality to hear the phrase 'somethings always wrong'.
There ARE bands out there today, yes I've said it. Look for it, back when this music was out we didn't have youtube or internet (until Napster came out, but I never, cough, used it). So take advantage of great websites and explore, seek out music. itunes has tons and tons of radio stations, youtube, etc etc. The 90's had great music and today we still do. I do suggest not relying on the radio, its crap. God Bless.
The only reason we don't have any good music today is because it was all used up and now the only thing that you're allowed to sing about is "ass and titties". it's a horrible concept, but it's kind of becoming that way...
Unfortunately, today's music is all about IMAGE and STYLE with a complete lack SUBSTANCE or QUALITY all in the name of the almighty dollar. A complete Paradigm shift if you will . Gaga, Bieber, Beyonce are all successful because of this generations untrained ears and the willingness to settle for whatever is on the radio or what their friends are listening to at the time.
@southport97 But isn't something more than that? I mean it's not so passive, they are actually seeking the sort of mindless nihilism that seems to accompany this new "music" - no melody, few chord changes, pounding, simplistic beats, angry or defeatist lyrics... The world (and the people in it) make me sad enough - I need music to do something more positive for me.
that or they prefer to shop on the real home shopping network ;-) the advertisements in this video always cracked me up... i thought it was cool how they added some sense of humor to an otherwise serious song, which is a really good song of course!!
Love this song, but I found a version with the backing vocals pushed up front and it sounded spectacular. Any help finding this mix would be appreciated.
This song rips me to shreds. One of those concepts no one can express in words, but somehow they just articulate it to perfection. The eloquence is subtle and nearly inaudible, but if you love this song but haven't read the lyrics, do so. In the spaces inbetween his words there are secrets :D
I honestly wanna cry when I hear this band. I miss music like this so much. There is absolutely nothing like it out anymore. Today's music pales in comparison. Good songs are fewer and further between. It saddens me. ;(
@WeskersValentine well, if it makes you feel better, check your local tour schedule. I'm gonna go see them tonight in Tempe, AZ... I am so stoked! I went to the HORDE tour the year they were on (which turned out to be about the last time they toured) and got stuck in traffic and was delayed enough to miss them... which made me cry. Tonight I get to make up for it! :D
They just played at our local music festival last weekend and were AWESOME! My brother in law's band opened for them and - bonus - they were SUPER nice guys. Love them too!
I know exactly what you mean. I've just turned 40 two weeks ago... This here playing is my 20's, the music and the pre-9/11 years were bliss... There's no way we can communicate this to the younger ones out there... Nothing compares....
(That, or it's how every aging generation feels :))
@torrentbits I think it's how most generations feel. I believe we attach music to chapters in our lives. If you think about it, the music we all miss, is the music that was playing in our younger years, when we had no responsbilities to speak of, we were full of hopes and dreams. Nothing was impossible and that nothing bad could ever happen to us. Those are powerful memories and feelings. Then life happens and it's not as we planned. We hear a song and go back to that easier, happier time.
@WeskersValentine Wow, you are so right. I know exactly what you mean. "Toad" was awesome. I miss all the music from 1991 through 1995. Toad was one of the best. Reminds me of simpler times.
@WeskersValentine Just read your comment and agree completely. I hate the shit they feed us today! When will it end? When will hip hop die, don't care to see one more pair of undies ( pull up your pants ) or girls being passed around like candy or money flung into the air. Give me substance!!!!
@pinger5000 You mean westernised rap? It will die the day love spreads all over the world in the name of the Lamb. As for hip-hop, I would not judge it without listening to it. Try going for Killah Priest 'my life' or Last Emperor 'single mother'. Do not destroy the others way of speech just because of what the media feeds you, do you really think you have ever seen hip-hop on tv? I'd say you saw what the 'white-man' loves seeing 'neggers do' and paying them for it, as for us in Africa: LOVE
and again, it seems we meet in the spaces in between. You always say it wont be long....oh but "SOMETHING'S ALWAYS WRONG"!.......BEST SONG OF THE 90'S HANDS DOWN!
im piggy backing on what others have said.....I miss the 90's. toad, candelbox, buffalo tom and especially "LIVE" throwing copper was EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Zenstudent105 Couldn't agree more. I hadn't thought of this song in years till it was used on Scrubs and since then it's been in my regular playlist again.
God forbid there might be a band that made melodic rock and roll....sort of in the tradition of Fleetwood Mac....that would be terrible. No offense to lyndsey buckingham (extraordinary guitarist). This band just plays good rock and roll.
@theseether I'm so very sorry for your sadness and negative outlook on life. Keep looking for the light at the end of the tunnel, but you have to find the tunnel first. Chin up.
Wow, Toad the Wet Sprocket has a bunch of songs I recognize. Apparently they are the generic 90s band that i always liked but never knew the name of :D
Great song that owned the airwaves in the college years from '94-'96. For such a strangely named group, it was a truly brilliant song that pierces to the heart. The 90's was a wonderful decade for music I have to agree. This song is one of many reasons why.
I really miss the 90's more than ever after listening to this song. It just gives me a great feeling you can't get from today's music. Somethings missing in music today.
Fantastic song....the early 90's were the last great gasp of really good Rock/Pop music....Rock and Roll is dead now, but at least these groups gave us great memories to listen to.
Had to hear it again,... listened to the 90's station on sirius, called Lithium, all day. Wow, Collective Soul, Soul Asylum, Foo Fighters, and others, my 46 year old body was in his 20's today!
beautiful song, but does anybody else realize that James Cameron stole his Avatar from Toad The Wet Sprocket? 1:13

There's nothing wrong with listening to a little Toad. Just a little though. Otherwise nostalgia takes over.

@za1ppThe 90's were great! If you were a lame, white guy that could play guitar well, and somewhat sing, you were getting on the radio.

To all 90s lovers, you should tune in to Big R Radio 90s alternative just as I did. Now I dont need to listen to this contemporary crap anymore.
