They were originally called "Weeze" but they changed it to "Weezer" when the old lead singer (who was a female) left the band.

So, I don't know what it is, because obviously they were just changing the name as a sort of way to show people that they changed their sound or something like that.

You can still hear the music with the plugs.. it isn't just as blasting loud. It helps I really wish I would of thought of plugs before I realized what the hell was that ringing in my ears and what caused it.
