So one third of the album is extraordinary..the other 2 thirds..not so much because they were indeed rushed. I've hear Trevor's demo & solo versions of "Miracle Of Life" and "Lift Me Up" & they are superior. Always wondered how they might have sounded on an EP of Trevor's, or even for Yes..without the filler. "Union" is actually my favorite album, for the 3 songs of Trevor's which "Lift Me Up" & "Miracle Of Life" are trancendent.
Actually 3 of the songs on "Union" were not rushed. All 3 of Trevor Rabin's songs, "Lift Me Up", "Miracle Of Life", & "Saving My Heart" were originally intended as solo songs, and were brought into what was going to be the 2nd ABWH album that morphed into the nest Yes album with Trevor on it on his 3 songs, (thank goodness!)! The other songs were written with Jon, the band, & Jonathan Elias, & these songs only were rushed with session musicians.
If Union had been a better album Yes would probably to this day still be getting lots of free publicity like this, doing interviews and making headline worthy news where-ever they appear; djs and vjs worldwide would still be talking excited 'gibberish' and (0:35) shaking new cassettes of Yes music with enthusiasm!
Seriously, releasing such an inferior album (hyped it as a 'union') was the worst move of their career.
Very insightful interview with Alan discussing my favorite Yes tour, "Union" from 1991, and amazing concert footage, especially of Trevor's wonderful musicianship.
@matthehat Yep, quite a curious mixture of British and Washington State.... as long as he keeps banging away on the skins I'll be happy- musically he has held up just about the best out of the guys touring as "Yes" at the moment.
Oh well, whatever the real story is-it will always be an interesting part of Yes history and the concert and DVD from this was awesome, although the CD sucked!
You are right my friend. Wakeman said it was his fav tour of all despite the plot to get rid of him, Steve, and Bill. He hit it off with Rabin, but must have been a threat to Tony Kaye I guess. But Rick was adamant that getting rid of them when so many fans loved them was what caused the '94 Talk tour to fail the way it did. I know that's what kept me away. Bill and Steve said they should've kept going with ABWH and let Rabin and company keep the Yes name.

@ThePeterats
erreur du traducteur de merde de M+, il a dit Bill (Bill Bruford), l'autre percussionniste.

They blew it, rushing Union as they did.

But not easy enough to keep all together. according to Wakeman, the plan to get rid of BWH was already underway.

haha. its not a surprise either.
It's not like Wakeman was gonna stick around for long though.. he has the worst record of them all. lol
