  • ...my dad had the same craftsman saw...built alot with it....

  • ....i wouldn't be doing that stuff in front of the little lady, i took a chunk out of my hand a couple times, you don't want her to see that...

  • Nice old saw!

  • @brandonGCHACHU Thanks ;-)

  • I'm doing a blog now to organize these videos and give the details of how I built my 1st house. Please check that out too: just look for stepbystephousebuilding on on google's blogsearch dot google d0t c0m site

Happy uploading everyone, and thanks for watching. Please do subscribe to JDAT747 channel to catch some more serious construction tips ( although not all are safe ). The house did come out pretty good once I was all done.

  • @ panther, et al

Thanks for leaving a comment on "Old Table Saw". Yep, I was just screwing around for the camera, though I must admit that I did not know it was bad to use miter and fence together at the time, so thanks for educating me. My daughter is a beautiful 13 years old now. LOL, and she doesn't seem to have any traumatic memories of my early days in the construction business.

  • You have a daughter, (and I wife I assume)...people who depend on you and you do this kind of white trash hillbilly project that could mame or possibly even kill you!!!??? And no safety goggles!!! Man, you need a serious whippin'

  • way to use the fence and the miter gage. you are my hero.

  • As the others have said, using the miter gauge and the fence is a bad idea. You should either use the miter gauge or the fence, but not both at the same time. By doing that you are asking for a kickback.

  • Miter gauge used with fence, BAD idea!

Couldn't you of used a drill to get it spinning or wrapped a string around lawn mower style? Then you can say you have a pull start table saw!

  • Are you still alive?

What's really creepy is that you are actually beaming with pride at the end of this video as if you've accomplished some kind of award-winning invention. The simple fact is, just seeing that you still have this video up for the world to witness your unequaled idiocy, shows that you are not only a stoopy, but a stoopy that doesn't know he's a stoopy - the worst kind.

I hope your little girl isn't there when you accidentally remove your head from your body one day.

  • Dude....don't ever cut a board with the miter gauge against the fence like that...it tends to go boom and break things.

  • We must be related....

  • Love your videos man!

  • I was scared to death watching that. I can't believe that piece didn't kick out and drill the little girl sitting right in the dead zone.

  • @wildwill1970

Ah, after reading there she wasn't around. Glad to know! :)

  • Comment removed

  • Craftsman?

  • yep

  • I am not sure what is dumber. Your "techniques"...or the fact that you video tape it for the world to see.

  • when I was younger and did not understand what could go wrong I used to "farmer" my way through things.

Listen to the posts that tell you to clear the kid out of the room, get a working motor and read a little about using a table saw.

Getting nicked feels bad,... getting your kid hurt? How bad would you feel then?

I guess if you only have 1 hour to live, then keep using that saw,....alone,...by yourself,....no other living things in the room....

  • This video was shot over the course of several days and my kid was not in the room when that saw was running .. just when I was putting the table together. Not trying to suggest I'm safe or anything, but not dangerous with the kids.

  • A+ for safety.

  • my dad cut his finger on one of those things what if that motor would have sliped whne you were releasing the belt

  • I don't know whether you"re "still workin' on the house," but you won't live long enough to get chronic lung disease. You're going to kill yourself. The way cut the wood is way dangerous. And balancing a wide, heavy bucket on a 2 x 4 is a really good way to catapult the 2 x 4 up and over the saw. That could make a big mess out of your head - no loss -- or child or dog. And by the way, neither of them belong anywhere as close as they seem to be to the work area. You're just plain stupid.

  • Dumbass.

  • (1)--fix your motor or stop using it.

(2)--Never use a miter gage WITH the fence--too much potential for kickback. Until you've had a sizeable piece of wood flying back at you at about 100mph, you won't appreciate what I just said.

(3)--get some earplugs or make plans for tinnitis for the rest of your life.

(4)--Keep your daughter out of the line of fire of potential kickbacks.

There are more issues with your technique, but we'll start there for now.

  • Mna you really piss me off, the more i think of it, Your daughter IS RIGHT BEHIND THE BLADE AND YOUR CUTTING PLYWOOD WITH A MITRE GUAGE AGAINST THE FENCE!!!!!!!! FUCKING RETARD, GO BUY A NEW OR EVEN A USED MOROR FOR 10 BUCKS, IT WOULD BE CHEAPER THAN BUYING ALL THE FUCKING PARTS TO REBULID THE OLD MOTOR YOU HAVE.

  • Your dsughter behind you, could get nailed by a kick back. THINK MAN

  • CAN YOU SAY CHEAP!!!! Go buy a new saw you fucking reject and put that on the end of a chian on your boat. Or did that sink with the bizmark..

  • can you spell.....................RETARD??????

  • apparently i can't. oops. i am chagrined.

  • the use of the fence and miter gauge at the same time is just about as dangerous thing as you can do. Like an AIG executive, you might be in line for a big kickback.

  • You're going to catch lots of flak now that this was prominently advertised in the FWW newsletter.

I give you high marks for getting that motor rebuilt.

Funny how you used the drywall bucket as a counterweight.

But you know the rest, as plenty of users have already and will undoubtedly continue to let you know...

Use a pushstick, goggles, HEARING protection with that old screamer, and don't use the miter gauge with the fence.

    I hope you're still OK.

  • You cheap bastard, just go buy a new motor.

  • This guy stands to be a prime example of Darwin's theories on survival of the fittest. If this is how he practices 'safety,' then he stands a chance that someday soon he'll be sans fingers. And that's the least of his worries.

  • Table saw slasher- your video is a wonderful example of degradation of humanity . Moronic redneck, period, especially in having your daughter any where near that shop. If that's what your doing with the table saw, who knows what else lurks in there. I really loved the cross-cutting of plywood with a miter gauge; and, against the fence. IF THERE WAS EVER A POSTER BOY FOR REQUIRING A LICENSE TO OPERATE ANY, ANYTHING, WITH POWER, THIS GUY WOULD BE IT. ..... His poor daughter!

  • You were holding the wrong side of the cut board, pal. I hope your little girl knows how to drive so she can get you to the emergency room. Get a modern saw with a blade guard and Google "table saw safety".

  • Who hasn't experienced kick-back at least once? It only took one wooden projectile to the balls to get me to respect the table saw. Another time, in my haste, I accidentally dropped the work piece on the spinning blade. Same result: wood projectile to the crotch area.

    He'll learn.

  • This is a "how not to...."!!

  • Are you kidding me? Look at his technique using the table saw. He doesn't even stabilize the keeper piece with a push stick or his hand...he is holding the miter gage with one hand and with the other he is pushing the piece against the fence(blade). That demonstration should be called "How to get your table saw to kick back". You should throw that saw in the trash and never use a power tool again..I would question your ability to use a pair of those kid safe scissors safely

  • 1:40 "And i'm not saying this is safe or anything" LOL. Ya think? =)

  • Hey buddy,

This video on how not to use tools is 2 years old. How about coming back and letting us know if you're still alive...or at least have all your fingers left.

  • This dude is dangerous. Absolutely unbelievable what he is doing.

This video needs to be removed.

  • holy shit that was scary

  • Im surprised he used a miter gauge!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What makes him so sure the starting capacitor is bad, the centrifugal switch is probably sticking.

I don't have much room to talk though, we used to have a fan in our shop we started with a drill and my bench grinder has to be spun by hand.

  • He is the poster boy for unsafe practice, woundn't you agree. 1.sandals 2.board bucket balance 3.spin starting elec motor. 4.dull blade 5.child and dog in same room with him and that 60's table saw.Did I miss anything.

  • The funniest thing I ever saw. Only someone completely devoid of common sense would actually do this.

Throw away that dull blade and the rest of the saw while your at it.

There is nothing worse than a cheaply made tool, except an old dangerous cheaply made tool.

  • I beg to differ, while his methods certainly aren't safe. Those old Sears machines are very well built, certainly better than what they put out now.

  • that is one of the scariest things I've ever seen

  • I hope you lose a finger and give up on woodworking forever. If nothing else, please stop posting your bad habits to the internet. No safety glasses. Dumb, awkward, and entirely dangerous shenanigans needed to start the saw and the mitre and fence are not designed to be used together lest you get a kickback board to the face. I'm glad you're restoring an old tool, as my grandfather used to build commercial woodworking machines, but don't post your abominable of safety practices on the net.

  • stop smoking weed, it affects your judgement you dumbass. besides being dangeourus, how about the fact you are working in sandals!? you only get one chance to screw up, then you start losing body parts

  • That is one cool saw...I'll trade you a zip gun for it! ...

  • Oh my lord! get that child far away from that thing! hes using a bucket a 2x4 and his foot to start it? that is terribley un safe and id be affraid to be in the same room with that thing running let alone using it, buy a new one buddy!

  • put the girl in the other room dad

  • "Someone needs this guys phone number"!!. I watched the video to the point where he started the saw. That turned my stomach enough. Did not finish watching. This is probably a heck of a nice guy that is suffering from a total lack of intelligence. Poor guy

  • It's obvious he's novice woodworker, he violated many safety rules. Never, never, never use a fence when you also use a slide jig. Especially with your daughter sitting where the piece kicked back will fly.

  • thing accidents are bad .think of all the ones that happend befor we knew it was dangerous lol

  • Shit! That was dangerous dude. You don't even have a motor mount for that thing. Using a old ass table saw is one thing, but using a 2x4 with a bucket for your motor mount and tension, jeesh. Buy a real table saw man.

  • ive worked with saws and other tools for a long time ive seen a lot of stupidity in that time but that takes the piss take the advice from vibartLL and get some books and more importantly keep your daughter out of there.

one other thing how do you stop that thing in an emergency.

  • 15 years behind the bench and i though i'd seen it all .....though you were going to stop the blade with your teeth in the final act!

  • Buy the books

The Table Saw Book By Kelly Mehler

    Jim Tolpin's

    Table Saw Magic

Read them from cover to cover. Don't touch the table saw till you read at least one of these books. Make sure your little girl isn't in the area when your using power tools for her safety as well as your own. You don't need to be distracted while your operating power tools.

    Bart

  • I forgot to say I have my Dad's Craftsman saw & it looks just like yours accept it has the wings & an up dated fence. I have the old 1 HP motor like yours but the saw has a 2 HP motor on it.

It also has a 5' long cabinet underneath it with drawers & a dust chute. These saws were manufactured between 1955 & 1957.

At this time it is in storage & I am using a 1940 Delta Unisaw.

    Bart

  • vibart i have a '45 unisaw those things are nice saws.

  • Bart, id love to see that 1940 unisaw, if you still have it. I love them old deltas. I just got one yesterday and this thing looks like its never been used xcept for the small saw mark on the saw side of the fence. thats it, theres no other sign the fence has ever been used. no rub marks or anything. Its a contractors saw, BUT has the exact same table and fence! and carriage. The best part is i got it for 60 bucks! lol i needed a second saw so i dont have to change blades all the time.

  • Always wear eye protection. Dust and specs of wood will get into your eye and can cause permanent damage. Always wear hearing protection. We're talking 95 db or higher. Always wear a respirator. Dust masks don't cut it. We're talking dust in the micron level and once it gets in your lungs, it don't come out! Table saws are extremely dangerous. While you are at it, build a push stick for small pieces. A book on table saws never hurts either!

  • Kickback happens when you essentially jam the wood into the saw blade. When you stick a fence in there crosscutting you are creating a jam situation. It doesn't always happen but the wood can grab the teeth of the blade and send the piece at you like a bullet.

  • A whole lot of you have made crass comments but with no explanation. You haven't explained kickback just insulted him. You've also avoided the subjects of hearing, eye as well as dust protection. Those are just as important. He could have gotten a woodchip in his eye. Let's work and be helpful!

  • I think you can hear Emma say "...get the big butter-fly net...". I've never seen a kick-start table saw before.

  • looks like he used his dads saw blade also. lol!

  • I was just waiting for the wood to fly. That's fucking scary shit right there.

  • There was nothing really dangerous about starting the thing. It was just a bit funny. I've got a much more dangerous table saw. I made it myself and it's got no safety stuff on it yet :)

  • Keep your day job!!

  • Please do yourself a favor and have elective surgery to remove both of your arms. The world and your family will be a far safer. Parelt's comment was on point! That is a dangerous way to crosscut.

  • I signed up with youtube just to respond to this video. You're well on your way to winning a Darwin award. Good luck to you.

  • I need to post my updated way of starting that saw. I use a strip of bike inner-tube now. Works great.

  • i hope that little girl was siting behind that thing when you had it on, or even in the same room.

  • What have you done....Tool Time was not that dangerous.

  • You're a moron (and I'm being nice).

  • You seem like a nice guy. Did your parents have any children who lived beyond their 20's? I agree with the other suggestions to get some training on the safe use of a tablesaw. You should NEVER use the fence and the miter gauge together like that. Do some reading about kickback and learn. And as far as the starting gymnastics, either wait until you have the right parts or go buy a handsaw. Unless you're not real fond of fingers or other body parts.

  • You seem like a nice guy. Do yourself, and your family,a favor and go take a class on the proper use of power tools. Don't turn the saw back on until you understand why what you just did is extremely unsafe. You're very lucky that that piece didn't shoot back at you.

  • i would like a quote on a few cabinets

  • Fence up against the wood he is crosscutting, the foot bucket thing, plus the fact that he video taped it. You would think through natural selection he wouldn't have survived to have kids of his own. Hopefully the kid takes after Mom.

  • Worst case scenario: he dies and his little girl has no daddy.

  • Actually, worst case scenario is that the little girl gets hurt or worse through the ignorant use of power tools by her daddy.

For the love of God, get that baby as far as possible from that saw when it's running!

  • Jesus I hope you have life insurance!

  • you are dangerous...

  • Whoa! Watch out there. Not even going to comment on how you started the saw, just about your cutting technique. You are liable to kickback using the miter gauge and fence at the same time.
