Took me a while to realise, but: Abraham is counting stars, because he's been promised more descendants than there are stars in the sky. He's also lived as a wanderer ("a raindog, gypsy, a wandering Jew"), but dies with hope and wonder in his eyes.
Peter Furler, thank you for the look of love in your eyes - it makes me want to love God more. We each are the orphans on a barren shore - this earth - waiting for our Hero. Lift your head for your Redemption is near! Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand! Hurrah!
it tells the story of Moses, being sent away on the Nile in a basket to save his life. it also alludes to the "orphan", being any one of us, searching for our true home, being salvation in Christ. sort of a prodigal child story.
I really love this song. The music gives me a feeling of hope, and the feeling that God is always looking after us, no matter what, that at the end of the long journey through our lives, he will be with us forever.
But some parts of the lyrics I don't really understand though. Can anyone explain what this song is about?
I love the Newsboys btw, thnx for uploading, I lost the cd where it's on!
We live in a time when a lot of people can get disenchanted with the church, and not know really what it's there for, and they make the mistake of moving away from itand probably, that's exactly what our enemy of the church, and the enemy of the kingdom of God wants..."
"And so the song The Orphan' is not necessarily about one thing, but one thing that it is about, is restoring the desolate inheritances and like handing something great onto the next generation. And that's really being fathers to the fatherless.but it's more than just orphans out there who don't have parents. There are people that have no spiritual families"

I used to hate this song when I was younger, then I actually listened to the music and lyrics, and I fell in love with it. Peter's voice is gold...

straight from q&a on their message board;"It's really about what is the church for?' You know in society...and how important is it?..." (contiued)
