  • The brits shot down 18 airplanes of the Argentinian airforce in the Falkland war. Planes like the Mirage IIIEA, A-4C Skyhawk and the Super Étendard, that they did with their hand cranked 40mm bofors canons, so it is possible to kill fast flying planes with a pre ww2 canon design :). 77 year old design and stll in active service world wide, ofcourse some adjustments has been made for better performance or to fit diffrent vehicles or countries needs, like the 1911 it still got the same design.

  • @1Gabrielsson1 True, but a modern warship would have killed those 18 planes and likely many more before they ever got remotely close enough for the 40mm to take a shot. A bow and arrow can still kill someone dead, but you don't see many people using it on the battlefield besides Rambo. This gun is obsolete for modern warfare, just like a bow.

It did have it's day though, the Bofors is going to be legendary even 100 years from now.

  • This is the gun that won the pacific war for the US. We cut the gook planes in HALF with this gun on our cruisers and destroyers.

  • Must be a coastal patrol boat... Would last to seconds in a head to head conflict with a modern ship half its size.

  • What navy still uses open top 40 mike, mike guns in a age of computer driven AA guns and rockets?

  • @moparmadness1 the Portuguese navy

  • "machine gun

    noun

a small arm operated by a mechanism, able to deliver a rapid and continuous fire of bullets as long as the trigger is pressed."

Technically this is not a machine gun, as "small arms" include calibers up to and including 25mm.

  • @HungaryHungryHitler

Correct, this is an automatic canon or autocanon.

  • 4 round clips are standard, and weigh just under 20 pounds.

Single round (with casing) weighs 4.74 pounds.

Not sure if they were 15 or 20 round clips, they would be heavy and hard to pick up and load.

  • Dear easter bunny

  • Dear Santa..

  • yay bofors!!!!

  • its it the same gun on the ac-130 cuz there both 40mm and its loaded like that on the ac

  • @bob119911 Stop playing Call of Duty.

  • @snipey14 yes cuz in call of duty they show you how they load the 40mm...

    nice try dumb ass

  • @bob119911 You should still stop playing Call of Duty, it turns you into a moron. A quick wikipedia search could probably give you the answer to your question

  • @snipey14 not at all cuz i know that theres ALOT of bull shit in cod...so as long as i know whats real and whats not im good...

like in black ops the m16 is the a1 and it has its 15 round mag but somehow you get 30 rounds ingame...wtf

i know my stuff (not saying im a gun expert or anything like that but i know more than what most pll know or atleast people my age know)

  • @bob119911 I do believe it was a 20 round magazine, not 15.

  • @snipey14 i know one of the early mags where 15

  • @snipey14 If I remember correctly the 40 had 4 rounds in a clip.

  • @bob119911 Actually the M16A1 used a 20 or 30rd magazine(My National Guard unit used them until 2003), but there are a lot of inaccuracies regarding weapons in Black Ops. The game is set in the 60's yet the M16 has a 3rd burst, which didn't appear until the A2 in the 80's. Also the Styer AUG didn't appear until 1975.

  • slow but steady, hard to aim but deadly.... i thought slow and steady just won the race but it also won battles too....

  • the sounds makes this weapon awesome

  • never belf fed! 5-6 round clips dropped in the top.

  • It defeated the Imperial god of the Shinto religion in 1945 I hope it will defeat Kim Jong Il the god of Communism :)

  • What is this used for? Aircraft? Boats?

  • @hunterhalo2 the bofors 40mm is a ww2 era anti aircraft gun, BUT it can be used against land targets

  • @himmler251 Thanks man, much appreciated info!

  • u see, they still use the bofors design. thats how good it is

  • A gandas patrulhas sempre a bombar, Classe Cacine?

  • I want one

  • @Arkmor "Buy One And Get A Nobel Prize For Free" (Bofors was started by Alfred Nobel)! :-P

  • us navy still use these ?

  • that 40 mm rules the machine gun world. A bel fedt 40 mm with a barrel that can handle alot of heat is what you would want if aliens where invading.

  • 40mm gun is a cannon in fact

Machine guns are less than 20mm and their rounds have no explosive - that is the difference. If it produces blasts - it's a cannon!

  • Don't 20mm CWIS have fragmenting rounds?

  • Fragmenting does mean it explodes beforehand, right?

  • Pretty close. Machine guns can shoot explosive rounds also, in both the 12.7mm and the 14.5mm.

  • @Toddinfantry Tracer and SLAP are not explosive and (Sov/Rus)14.5mm is often referred to as "cannon" if it is loaded exclusively with explosive. .50cal is anti-personnel weapon, so explosive rounds are illegal in M2HB (but not in Barret, which is a rifle) while WW2 fighters were loaded with ball ammo. So, as I'm not aware of who manufactures explosive .50cal and when it's loaded into a reciprocating machine gun I'd like to know, I don't like being ignorant.

  • @Prod1Kh Last question first, don't know the manufacturer but there is a round APEI 169 that is AP, explosive and incendiary.

The 50 cal is not an anti-personnel weapon and is classified as such in the Geneva Conv. Generally, it is considered an anti-material weapon, except in the single shot or semi-auto sniper rifles

The 14.5 enters the gray area of heavy machine gun or auto-cannon. Mostly considered a heavy machine gun with the 20mm being the first of the true auto-cannons.

  • @ajbarton4201977 I don't want to sound like a dickhole, but its a autocannon, not a machine gun. Listen son, any "machine gun" with a caliber over 20mm is considerd a autocannon.

  • @FrozenPetrolPie Thanks, dad, but you might have wanted to explain to him that "machine-gun" means normal bullets while "cannon" is what you call them when they use explosive shells and that "auto-" is the prefix for any reciprocating, or "automatic" cannon.

  • @Prod1Kh "dad" haha, oh wow xD

  • @Prod1Kh Cannon is actually anything that is 20mm and above, explosive or not.

  • @Bullchicken1980 Nope.

  • @ajbarton4201977 hell no, far too slow of a rate of fire, the 30mm is much better, the apache gun is the best.

  • @jgtheman84 I would prefer the gau8

  • @PzAufklaerer12Btl gau-8 is gigantic and cant turn or aim unless the whole plane points in that direction. the apache gun is linked to the pilots head so wherever he looks the gun aims wich is just amazing to me.

  • @ajbarton4201977 Not a machine gun=autocannon!

  • @ajbarton4201977 uf u can heat shat wiht that gun it fire so rarely

  • @ajbarton4201977 A 40mm autocannon is not a machine gun nor is it ever belt fed.

  • hand loaded?

  • Holy Shite.... that's power folks.

Vamos considerar o sistema Sistema Aegis !

E para bom entendedor não necessita dizer mais nada, concorda ?

  • M2 is also pushing toward 100yrs old. Still does it's job fine though.

Think of the 35mm as PT boat repellant and close range AAA.

  • its from a small Portuguese patrol

  • If it ain;t broken don't fix it

  • i wonder what it'd look like to use a ww1 tank today

  • sounds good

  • bofors 40mm might be old, but still very effective.

  • lol against what...civilian propeller aircraft?

  • Pirates

  • Space Pirates?

  • no. monkey pirates.

  • Somalian pirates

  • Mounted on twin armed turret coupled with a radar controlled firing system, yes it is.

  • Anti aircraft?

  • old guns still blow the fuck out of poele

  • wow, they're still using those old clunkers?
