I think it's quite possible :)

I also have downloaded a few things from youtube using an plugin I installed to my Firefox. I download the video and convert it in Any Video Converter to .mp3 audio and it works. You can try that ;)

I could, but this is why radio rips are legal :D you can download it from youtube if you know how to do it, but even then you won't get the full, untouched track ;)
