apparantly. it's very hard to get the optical illusion when we look at these dragons using our eyes. Only works using a video camera

It's single point illusion. because your eyes are seeing from two different points to help us in seeing 3 dimensional figures correctly. If the camera was stereoscopic (two separate lenses) the illusion wouldn't work.

Now I've built it I see how it works. It's been folded inside out so the head seems to rotate in the opposite direction to the body if you look with one eye and convince yourself that it's been folded normally. It helps to make another dragon with all folds the opposite ( ie normal) way and rotate them together to see the difference. Also eyes in any flat picture always seem to follow you, so it's a combination of illusions. It really is brilliant.

Not at all. You can be standing right in front of it and it'll have the same effect.

Some people have to close one eye while they look at it to eliminate their depth perception but I didn't.
