I will say this in regards to our culture. in any social community, there is the hierarchy of need (Maslow's heirarchy). BD, being one of the poorest and most corrupt country in the world, our main need is food, shelter, clothes and an education. having those alone can make our ppl happy, therefore, they have the idea that money is the only means of gaining the other previous four.
@shft001 (continuing on) ... our generation has surpassed those needs and require a different form of satisfaction. so after having physiological (food water) and safety (shelter, family, health) needs, we require a higher form of satisfaction. the current bengali mindset ends with the need of Belonging (family, friends, community, religion). But our generation easily obtains those, so therefore we search for Esteem (confidence, achievement, respect) & self-actualization (creativity/morality)
that is why our generation seeks more individuality and has some stray away from education an religion, and searched for individuality and self expression.... its a complex social situation, but it is hard to teach SOME bengali parents that our culture (as well as others) is always changing. our needs and goals, and the whole culture itself, is different from what theirs is, an what our ancestors culture used to be. every generations brings upon a new form of bengali culture. learn to accept it.
