Also, many of you fine young ranters suggest that a new batch of TTC drivers should be hired at a lower wage, as the current ones are over-paid. If you think the service is bad now, what sort of stellar candidates do you think you would get at a lower rate? This job has a lot of unseen low points that the general public is not aware of.

Sure, there are probably people that would perform this job just as well, if not even better for a lower wage. I would love to be a firefighter, and would do it for $30,000 a year, but I would be pretty unsettled if I knew that firefighters were paid the same wage as a security guard.

That TTC collector at Greenwood is brilliant! The TTC should in general play music in there stations. In Japan, most stations have a nice little tune when the train arrives into the station, It makes being in a station not as boring a wait.

Sure, there are probably people that would perform this job just as well, if not even better for a lower wage. I would love to be a firefighter, and would do it for $30,000 a year, but I would be pretty unsettled if I knew that firefighters were paid the same wage as a security guard.
Now that I think of it, I would feel pretty unsettled if I knew that the person operating a city owned 5.8 million dollar vehicle, driving my family to school and work , only made a pittance of a wage too.

hey you for got to add that mississuaga transit has had their fare at $3 for WELL over a year now and they have no night bus, longer waiting times, no subway and most of their buses dont even connect with each other.

@altv332 At leat their transfers work more like a 2-hour pass, unlike the ttc, whose transfer is one-way only.
To be frank, it's best to compare it with gas prices (106c/L). And with cars, you can expect to pay a LOT more.
I use a Metropass though.

There are people out there without a job, people out there who are standing on the streets (such as highway exits) asking for "anything you can spare" (even they are more productive), dying homeless people, people who bust there asses just to feed their family, and this guy goes and sleeps on the job? Yes, there are people, not just students, out there who would do it for a fraction of the wage too. We are taxed WAY more than that fare. Not to mention that fare increase. Argh!

I'm sorry but that news about that TTC worker dozing off annoyed me... and what totally set me on fire was the union defending, pointing the finger BACK AT US saying he could've been sick or dead and why we didn't "do something". We're paying their wages, they better stay the blipping fffff awake. They need to reconsider if about that position if they can even fall asleep like that. The fact is, the worker wasn't sleep, he wasn't gravely ill, .. what does the ttc do about it? point at us!

I think the music is nice. Give him a break. Who hasn't been tired at work at some point? If a 25-cent fare hike strains your finances you are not getting paid enough. Why don't people campaign to raise the salaries of those getting minimum wage instead of begrudging others who are paid well?

There must be lots of other more interesting shit he sees everyday worth recording. I doubt student's would be able to perform these jobs (hours are long and there's probably quite a bit of training that goes along with the job).
Instead, the TTC should fire every single one of their current workers who will not settle for lower wages, and hire a new set of employees .

The difference is, we have minimum wage laws while most countries don't. I'm not saying for TTC to cut their wages below minimum, but they shouldn't be so inflated. These outrages wages are directly affecting the public - us. Why else do you think the fare was jacked up to $3?

I'm aware they have a union, thats why I'm saying the TTC should terminate all contracts of employees who will not settle for lower wages, and replace them with workers who ARE willing to do the same work for less. This would render their union useless. The only reason why the TTC hasn't done this yet is because it would ruin their public image.

It's not the collector playing the music you morons. If you listened closely, the music is interrupted when the Transit Control public announcement goes off... "506 Yonge and Bloor, 506 Yonge and Bloor" then music plays again. This is the default classical music that is played inside stations to keep teenagers from loitering! You're a moron for thinking the collector is blasting the music! Ever go to Kennedy station? It's on 24/7 there!

That TTC collector at Greenwood is brilliant! The TTC should in general play music in there stations. In Japan, most stations have a nice little tune when the train arrives into the station, It makes being in a station not as boring a wait.
