Why do so many silly people believe that the world will end next year? Because the Mayan calendar happened to end then doesn't mean a damned thing. Our calendar ends every December but we don't assume that's the end of everything. And neither the Mayans nor the Sumerians left any recorded statement that they expected it to happen either. All stuff and nonsense - almost as childlike and transparent as religion and belief in fairies and genies. Try to get out more, for fuck's sake.

It is then the World of the Fifth Sun. It is--right now, a time of human evolution. Of human consciousness. The Mayan Elders themselves say this.

@tparbs I am well chastised. I suppose the ubiquitous doomsday soothsayers spouting their nonsense have taken away my usual patient demeanour. Which 5th sun would that be, exactly? I do subscribe to the notion of the coming 'singularity' in terms of human enterprise and philosophy, but I see that as a result of our accelerating science and technology converging to a point of transition/transcension. I don't believe the Maya foresaw our modern computers or exploitation of quantum entanglement.

@bigbearleeds :-) If you look up the 9th wave or Universal Underworld from the Mayan calendar, you may see they saw more then we think. This officially begins March 9th and ends Oct. 28th, 2011. I want to add that I believe our science and technology has come at the cost of our spiritual understanding and we have lost much that was known--ancient knowledge. But with this last and final wave of universal consciousness, I believe humanity will awaken to remember who we are. :-)

@gotoshack It really sounds like plain old superstition to me, as soon as somebody brings up anything based on the heavens it automatically becomes satanic. And how can it be new age? The Mayan civilization goes back to right around the time of Christ and the Olmecs who probably had the info first were much older. The long count that's ending started 3114 BC!!

One thing I don't understand is when Christians say that anything having to do with the Mayan calendar is evil, of Satan, a deception, etc etc. I don't get it, what exactly about it has anything to do with religion? The Maya recognized cycles in the solar system and recorded them... The very cycles god says he gave to man for signs and for seasons in Genesis1:6 I believe?
