I was taking obscene amounts of oxycodone, metadone, hydromorphone and xanax. I took my time tapering down for almost a year, until I was only taking 15mg of oxy and 0.25mg of xanax. At that time, I stopped completely and was only mildly sick for less than a week. I was addicted to opiates for more than ten years and have now been clean since March 26, 2009. I haven't looked back since and have not relapsed one time.

Usually I just chew up a little bit to get it broken down a little then I try to chew them as small as I can with my front teeth so they dont get stuck in my teeth. You can still catch a nice buzz off them though. Just a different high when you swallow them.

@MrCunth Take the meds as directed, keep your doctor informed of any changes, and let him/her know if you are not getting pain relief, before being tempted to take more than prescribed. There's a difference between dependance and addiction; slamming, snorting & taking more than directed is what gets people in trouble. I was also in a car accident and have just started my first day of opiate therapy in addition to seeing a chiropractor and still feel overall pain and crapy, even after taking one standard pill of regular PERCODAN. Barely felt some releif after waiting an hour---"No Euphoria", just feel a bit groggy and a little light headed, still with some background pain, just not as bad. Well at least this medication shouldn't be addictive for me.

I had oxy after a very painful episode with an intestinal infection. I had morphine in the hospital and an oxy script for home. Morphine will mess you up but oxy made me feel like the best feeling I couldve ever imagined. It was better than sex. I remember thinking "why do they say this is so bad, when it's soooo good?". Needless to say, I had 5 pills and took those as prescribed and didn't get addicted. BUT I did hide them and psychologically I was already attached. Crazy shit!

In my case I was admitted to the hospital almost a dozen times in 3 years for a rare stomach/intestinal disorder that is incurable. While not fatal, the attacks are quite similar to kidney stones or gall stones. VERY painful. I'm 52 now, but have had these attacks throughout my life. As I got older the attacks became more frequent and more severe. Only treatment when I have "full blown" attacks are several doses of Morphine or Dilaudid, IV administered.
