Im from East Oakland California. My hood is fucked up. We average 120 deaths a year but you would never know it cause when you come to cali it looks so nice and sunny even in the winter. The main reason I wouldnt live in the windy city is the snow and how funny the people talk.
Thanks for the trip. Its fun cruising around with you. I'm from Germany but I have a sister in Chicago. In 2010 I've been there with my kids. We also took a couple of trips through the South Side although my sister hesitated. It was fun. Everybody was nice to us white people. We've been invited to a service on sunday morning wich was a great experience. At night we went to the Checker Board in Hide Park wich is the better-off-neighborhood in the South Side.
@crumadonis apparently yea, it got probably the worst neighbourhoods in America with Englewood being no1. About 60,000 people with 60 murders a year it's bad
I had to laugh when I watched this video. Many things you said were true. I grew up in that neighborhood..from the winter of 1966 and my grandparents still live there.....alot has changed. True Ashland was the dividing line back then.....you had the highland theatre on 79th and and Ashland and the Beverly Theatre at 95th......People took care of one another back in the 70's blacks looked out for one another
Those cameras were declared unconstitutional and removed in Minneapolis. Reason? Because the cameras couldn't prove who was actually driving the car / speeding.
I like your video. BTW, I heard you mention "bourgeoisie". Are you a Marxist? LOL.
Isn't 87th street more than 87 blocks south of madison? in a lot of places they got 23rd street, 23rd place, 24th street, 24th place and so on. if that was (which i don't think it is) consistent it would be 170+ blocks south of madison.
@notBMW18 from 33rd st to 34th st (or 87th to 88th or any other example) is one "block" ie 1/8th mile when your south of 31st, the fractions are wierd between madison and 31st (0-1200/roosevelt is a mile, 1200-2200/cermak is a mile then 2200-3100/31st is a mile). the "place" streets only count as a "half block", or 1/16th of a mile, these streets are only in residential neighborhoods so you can fit more houses,
@YoungOldSchoolRapper The city use to be such a beautiful place.. It's sad really.. I don't think negroes even know what it's like to live in a safe place.. I think that's why they always want to live with white people.
income and education somewhat is an explanation. also its who u know and who u blow. get in tight with the jews like obama did helps. now he is their slave for the 4 to 8 years.
I live on 96th St., and I remember when Third Baptist was a movie theater too!. My brother used to take me to Kung Fu movies there! I agree with quite a bit of what you said, but in this economy, education doesn't necessarily relate to income. I have friends with master degrees who can't find jobs, and friends who barely went to college for a year, who are making 60,000 plus. Circumstances can change the correlation. But thanks for representing my neighborhood! I miss that Blockbusters. Lol!
u tell it like it is, except for the piece of shit rev wright, get over the whole race thing and it wont effect you, live your life and dont interfere with anyone else's. i lived in englewood til '87 then moved to oak lawn. its a shame watching good well cared for nighborhoods turning to ghettos, whatever the driving force.Oak lawn was BEAUTIFUL when i was younger and around the time i moved there, now its slowly CRUMBLING, i just dont understand why noone takes pride in the area they live in,
@cltpython My fiance took me through (as I'm a St Louis native) 47th between Michigan Ave and Cottage grove. It's not much now, but I could tell it used to be a hopp'n area. Care to share some wisdom on that? She said that a long time ago it was a big Jazz area and was real nice.
Thank you for this video. It is very fascinating seeing diverse neighborhoods and learning their history. I have lived in the Washington DC suburbs most of my life and I tell you what, we have some very diverse hoods in the District. Some good, some bad. Thats what makes a city a city.
So are you for Segregation where the best and the brightest were forced to do buisness in the community and keep it local or are you for integration where the best and the brightest rose above and escape the poverty ? It seems you have one foot in each camp....
I am from the Beverly area too bro. I might of ran into you a few times in that area back in the day. I couldn't get into Morgan Park HS, so I went to Julian which was a great school also at that time.

Thanks for the tour of my old neighborhood, Mr. Sims. I'm south side Irish Catholic, but I moved away decades ago.
I agree with your frank assessment of education, income and demographics.
I really enjoyed the virtual ride with you. It brought back memories.
