  • So great, I just spontaneously was really hungry and chopped up a couple of apples in the blender, added flax seeds some lemon and a few walnuts cinnamon and nutmeg! So your recipe was perfect..the apples and cinnamon really curbed my hunger and sugar cravings.

  • Thanks Krista for sharing your delicious recipe with us. I eat a similiar snack and add organic walnuts and munch like you while at the puter. Hm, yum, yummy and goodie, lol. <3 AC

  • That was a very sweet video - thank you. I have almost the same favorite snack. I cut up an apple, sprinkle cinnamon all over (yippee cinnamon!!!!!), and then add some dried mulberries or a cut up medjool date or two. Yum, yum. I too, suffered from hypoglycemia much of my life, but mostly triggered by caffeinated coffee and/or cooked simple carbs. Raw food, even sweet fruits, seem to be fine for me like you you said in your comments.

Have the apples have the cinnamin and I am sure there are some raisons downstairs. Your the man with the master plan. Krista the man

  • LOL, I loved your comment all the way up to the "Krista the man" part!!! I know you didn't really mean that, for even if I did look like a man, being manlier than Dan the Man would be no easy feat to achieve!

  • Krista you dont look like a man. You look like a woman. But Krista the woman doesnt really sound as good as Krista the man. Like Dan the man.

OK you can be Krista the woman. I thought the man sounded better but Krista the woman sounds ok:) Nathaniel

  • PS: What is milokito?

  • ...it's my, um, 'art name,' that I came up with years ago...I sign my drawings with it. pronounced mee-low-key-toe

    silly, i know! ;)

  • I like it a lot. I think it fits you and I love that it is the ART NAME you chose.

  • Yum! I bet if that is a sweet apple a little drizzled lemon juice would be so delicious on it as well. I loved this video YOU SHOULD DO MORE! By the way, you look beautiful in this video. Your skin looks angelic! Thanks for sharing!

  • No wonder you suffer low blood sugar episodes as that snack is too high in sugar. You need protein in your snack.

  • No...this snack is actually what PREVENTS me from having low blood sugar episodes! ;)

I have this snack every day, but only have a low blood sugar episode once a month...

  • Sorry..it doesn't make sense..raisins are packed with sugar. Your once a month episode..probably related to menstrual cycle..should be ringing bells.

Even so, do you hold qualifications in nutrition?

  • As I stated, cinnamon modulates blood sugar. ALL fruit is technically 'packed' w/ sugar, but that's missing the point. Fruit has fiber & the fruit from sugar is from nature.

How has my current high-fruit diet practically put an end to these low blood sugar incidents? So much so, that I no longer fit the diagnosis for hypoglycemia?

I am a Certified Holistic Health Practitioner, Board certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.

Do you hold qualifications in nutrition?

  • I also graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, earning a Columbia University Teachers College certificate in nutrition.

In addition, I've completed extensive nutrition coursework at the Natural Gourmet Institute for Food & Health.

Although not directly related to nutrition, I also earned my B.A. in Psychology from Columbia College at Columbia University.

  • No, I don't hold qualfications in nutrition, economics actually, but then again I am not promoting myself and pushing my business on youtube. I'm relieved to hear you have such qualifications. I have never met a naturopath that encouraged me to embark on raw veganism. In the real world, it is simply considered to be too extreme and lacking in nutrients by the more distinguished health professionals :)

  • FYI: This is my 1st of several comments for my reply...I wish YouTube allowed more characters!

    Economics...another interesting subject! ;)

To be clear, I've never been about encouraging others to embark on ANY *specific* diet, raw vegan, or otherwise. I'm not fond of black-or-white type labeling & as I do have honey I'm technically not vegan. If there was a word to describe vegan, except for honey, then I and so many others would be labelled that instead. But those are just labels.

    (cont...)

  • (cont...)

Even though I personally don't even like meat*, I'm not straight-out opposed to people choosing to enjoy organic, grass-fed, humanely raised meat & dairy products but ONLY if they truly meet those conditions.

    *{Even as a young girl raised by & surrounded by meat-eaters in my environment, I never cared for it & was always found at the veggie platter at social events. I did not even know of one vegetarian individual...this was before the internet.}

    (cont...)

  • (cont...)

I think the crux of what really makes a food 'healthy' or not is asking yourself:

How much has this food had to be 'messed with' in order for it to appear on my plate, tasting as it does?

...and the less answers you have to that question, the better...an ideal answer being (for example): This apple hasn't been messed with at ALL, other than me plucking it off the tree to eat it.

    (cont...)

  • (cont...)

So I've always been about encouraging others to get healthy, via eating more natural foods, listening to their own bodies & experimenting as to what foods work for them (or don't).

There are many dietary theories in the world, of which I learned about the vast majority of during my studies, but just like w/ religion, I don't believe we can choose just ONE religion or diet that is 'correct.'

    (cont...)

  • (cont...)

I believe the highest truths are beyond all black & white and have only to do w/ context, meaning the truth is constantly shifting depending on one's internal conditions & the environment. e.g., just comparing Dan & I there are great differences in our nutritional needs as he is 6'2", male, VERY athletic, an ayurvedic vata constitution, has a VERY fast metabolism & has genetic variances which might make him more or less able to absorb certain nutrients compared to others.

    (cont...)

  • (cont..)

Whereas I'm 5'4", female; fit, but not athletic; an ayurvedic pitta constitution; have a fast metabolism (slow compared to Dan's!) & have my own set of genetic variances making me more or less able to absorb certain nutrients. Beyond this, it depends on one's climate, availability of local foods, what one's home/school/work environments are, one's socioeconomic status, if you're a child, adult or senior, are pregnant or lactating, or have a medical condition, etc., etc...

    (cont..)

  • (cont..)

So there are no cut & dry answers. Dan & I look at ourselves simply as high raw fruit & vegetable eaters.

Regardless of what we personally choose to do with our diets beyond that has nothing to do with how we simply enjoy encouraging and/or showing others how to bring more raw fruits & vegetables into their daily lives (+ limited amounts of nuts, seeds, honey, etc.).

...the next post will be my last in this series, I promise. ;)

    (cont...)

  • (cont..)

So we do NOT believe that 100% raw is 'better' or the 'only' way to be or is 'THE' goal to all of this. No way. We simply like to help others to bring more raw organic fruits, vegetables & love into their lives. If someone has this apple snack instead of a piece of cake as their midnight snack, my work here is done.

Thanks for starting this comment trail! I do enjoy writing when given a spark by a question or comment. Otherwise, writing is very tough for me..

    Here's to your health!

  • I agree organic is best. But Ialso think dairy, fish and meat in moderation are also best. Each to his own. Please take care to make that clear to women, especially preg/lact. I worry for your iron, zinc and B12 but if you know what you are doing.. Remind your boyfriend that iodine is needed for the thyroid and dairy is full of it so refrain from commenting on thyroid health and also on diabetes, often a genetic disease of the immune system. Good health!

  • thanks for opening this debate and respectfully doing so. Like you I am also not educated in nutritional field but have been researching it on my own. It has never made much sense to me though all the recommendation on B12 hype as I as well as my family are all vegetarians and do not lack in any energy or strength. My grandmother is 95 today and her sister was 105 when she died. Both have been vegetarians all their lives. And there are many many examples like that. So the B12 stuff, I dont know

  • Thank you!
