Thanks for posting. I was there for one year only - '86/'87. I think there's a pic of my old flight instructor Ian Duncan at 1:22. I did a google search and see the campus is now renovated (as of 2008) and operating as the 'Maharashi Academy for Total Knowledge'.
Nanny Ha ha, Hoagies, Black flies, The Major. I lived in The Zoo...I remember my first student solo in my fav Cherokee 343 down at the airport, , fellow Jamaican Winsome Palmer, being president of the International student club, Brigitte Michel and Helen Mairlot, Shoo Shoo, Happy Hour, playing flag football, Lauren, Beast, Dean Thiebeault, Trevor, Carlos...fall foliage, Dawn Patrol, Charlie my flight instructor, 1978-1981, never finished, awesome memories...
A shame. I graduated from Saint Anselm, but remember Hawthorne very well. I often wonder what would have happened if the school had stuck to its liberal arts core as opposed to going the more aviation-business-technology route. By choosing the latter, it was outmaneuvered by the more established programs at Daniel Webster College and New Hampshire College. The campus buildings also needed updated, and recruitment needed to be more aggressive. Alas, NH never did much to support its colleges.
Thank you for posting this. While I was too young to be able to go to Hawthorne, I have lots of fond memories of being there. My grandfather, George Gibson, was part of the Hawthorne faculty dedicated to teaching flight. My mom, dad, aunt and uncle are also alums of Hawthorne.
"Major Gibson" as we use to call him was a first class individual. We all looked up to him and he mentored many of us through our initial flying experiences. I got to fly one flight with him in the DC3. What a great experience. It was an honor to know him. You should be very proud of him. He had a positive influence on all that he touched.
Glad to hear that he is still around and going strong. I remember the Starduster II when it was just tubes and a dream. It's wonderful that he finished it. Please send him my warmest regards.
Firehawk, thank you so much for posting this, real nice job - serious memories! My husband & I left in '86, we saw the "crash" coming & went to Bridgewater State in MA. Life in NH was great. Would love to find Marylou Posada if anyone has contact info. And hey, twldr1, what they said was true: if you could learn to fly out of 8B1, you could basically fly anywhere...
You're welcome :) You can see if they are on FACEBOOK or MYSPACE ..there is a Hawthorne College Group Page on Facebook with lots of alumni and pics on there

Gee... Your welcome for taking the credit on this video. I actually created it, and it contains some of my personal images.

Officially closed in spring of '88 but the school and the CIA still trained its recruits there for well over ten years until early 2000.

I never went to Hawthorne, but I did work there.
My mom did too.
I have a lot of memories of the place.
It was a good school.
A lot of the old buildings are torn down, but if you go there today, you can still see it as Hawthorne College.
Thank you for posting this.
Sometime in the future, I will make a video of what it looks like today.
