  • Rode for 12 years ..would not trade it for all the Money in the World...and yes as you mentioned w/ happiness ..so too was i the same way..

  • awesome vid

  • Right on guys! Back in 1983 I did the same thing albeit solo. Rode an Eastbound from Roseville, CA. to Sparks, NV.... up and over Donner Pass...and return. Though, I don't know about that open well car business. I, for myself. Chose to ride at one end of a covered hopper.

Great to see you guys made it and were able to post your adventure. "Well" done (grin) .

  • Interesting that you passed an arch that has Jack London's name... he hopped many a freighter. It's in a work he wrote entitled "The Road" - excellent reading. He also traveled with a celebrated hobo, "A No. 1."

  • when trains stop... do they have a reason? what do they do... like why?

and how long is the wait... u just stay in the train?

  • When two trains are coming towards each other on a single track, one has to find a siding to wait for the other to pass. Can be five minutes or five hours, you never know.

  • thank u alot... sorry. but i forgot to ask one more question..... whens it safe to hop off?

    lmao

before it gets to the yard?

cuz it seems dumb to hop off at the yard where theres mad workers.

and when there going to the yard. i notice they always have to slow down....

  • You never want to be getting on or off in a yard, unless you know it well. Especially near borders they make it hard for you to get off in time, so it's always best to hop a route you know.

  • thought so

    u helped me alot!

    thanx

im trynna go to richmond or DC

  • Make a video and post the link! I grew up in Balt. but never hopped the east.

    Good luck & safe riding.

  • ill try and post a vid... i know ill have pics!

    thanx alot...

  • thanks man i will definatly check that out

  • hey me and my freind are gonna do this this summer how did you go about getting an acuarate map of the frieght lines this is the only part of plan that i cant seem to figure out

  • I'm a bit of a geek, so I went to AAA and got maps and for years added with a pen all the lines I saw in person that weren't already marked. I bet it's a lot easier now with the 'net.

  • am seriously contemplating my first train-hopping excursion...this video is very inspirational...

  • check out parts 2-6 of 6

  • hey dude did you ever go back to youre dog or what happened?

  • Indeed it is.

  • Umm, I really don't know but I think that's Alex Aarnsdorf. Is it?

  • Hopping on a moving train is dangerous, but hey, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Great video!

  • Catching on the fly is fucking dumb

  • spectacular

  • A word of Divine wisdom to bartozas:

I have been in railroad freight yards,

therefore, be advised that 1)being in

    railroad yards are dangerous, 2)the

chances of you being arrested for tress-

passing are more than likely and 3)los-

ing your life as a result of being struck

by a passing train is possible. Whether

you heed this word of advice or not,

just remember, been there, done that!

  • I going to try it, in Europe. I going to hop on the train, when hi's in yard...

  • I hope people realise when watching this video, that hopping onto a moving train is incredibly dangerous. The train is not going to stop when it runs you over.
