I was just on one of these trains in March for a school trip between London and Paris. It was my first ever time on a train and it was amazing, it was so smooth and so fast, if i ever go to Europe again i will be riding the Eurostar! :)
I love the way the French end of the Channel tunnel has a round portal and the English end has a square one. I'll bet there were arguments about that when they were building it!
Nice bit of filming, but I bet the passengers were all over the place in that bumpy and poorly designed thing. The (now rather old) TGV is vastly superior in every respect. Try one and see.
This video is slightly misleading. The video shows the train going into the euro tunnel french side, it then shows the train exiting a tunnel. but it is not the euro tunnel on the coast of kent. The tunnel you see the train exiting is the dartford crossing about 60 miles from where the train would enter the uk. the video should have shown the record breaking trip as the train exited France and entered the UK. just a small niggle. but this new highspeed line is great to travel all.
ok ok but you tube is for conspiracy theorists and nut jobs so tell me are the delays today really because of a temperature differential between the inside of the tunnel and the outside or is it because of the strike? news management?
Most helicopters are pushed to go faster than 150 mph.Did you see the free champagne for passengers! Its a real shame they treat their cleaners like slaves and pay them £7 pounds an hour

Oh I see now. Your momma is a race traitor nigger lover. What white men were not good enough for her? You should ask your momma why she didn't choose a white man, would be interested to hear those results.
Its pretty nasty to think your momma gets off to a nigger on top of her. Shes such a pervert.
@A503B201 go see a doctor you obviously need your head looking at there is nothing wrong with black people or packistani people but there is a problem with you obviously what did your mum screw to get you a tree?
I love Amtrak, but nothing compares to Eurostar. It was the greatest train experience of my life. It was so smooth and fast that it didn't even seem like a train. The First Class food and service was incredible. London to Paris, then Paris to London a month later. We will return...
Is it just me or Does anyone else love clocks in stations, the loco itself is very nice and all, but for me i think they are ugly. doesn't mean that everyone has to think that, obviously you might not think this. I bet one of these really stupid people will go " oh look he thinks they are ugly " and put a thumbs down. i don't care

the most hi tech trains apart from germany and japan? perhaps you've forgotten that high speed rail has been around in france and italy for decades and had trains faster than eurostar even in the early 90s. Also, I suggest you travel to Finland, best trains I have been, on where second class comes with foot-rests and reclining chairs, and wide aisles, something that is completely alien even to the best 1st class train in the UK. British trains suck, end of story, bring back nationalisation.
re: Ourumov66, "where in america does any tunnel exist that links one nation to another...": there has been a rail tunnel between Ontario and Michigan for over 100 years.
re: FeigningPatriot, "that would be states though." I think many Canadians would be very upset to learn that Ontario had become part of the United States.
re: NeoFalcon69, the Michigan Central Tunnel runs under the Detroit River and the St. Clair Tunnel runs beneath the St. Clair River. Both rivers are part of the body of water that connects Lake Huron to Lake Erie.

Anyone can speed up video, and take photos of cheap LED displays that say "320". The US has the greatest rail system in the WORLD!! And our passenger trains rarely exceed 40 mph. So you know this is bogus.
We have the oldest system in the world here in the UK, although not the fastest (that is France for conventional rail) . However all our passenger trains regularly exceed 40MPH, most do at least 90, and some do 125. Some of our trains are 140 mph capable. Most of our freight, goes at 75mph...
The greatest railways in the world belong to France, Japan and Germany!
With the ferry to england, that is simply the best way to cross the chanal. Departure from Belgium or France. Book never to euro tunnel. Take the ferry and enjoy a mini cruse experience with a nice view. For over 150 years ferry experience, which can count. Eurotunnel, you will lose. Enter campaign against eurotunnel. With his all in 2009 against eurotunnel.
i recently took a eurostar train from london - paris and was amazed at high speed 1 done the trip a few times from waterloo but what a difference it makes from st pancras. about 30/20 minutes from paris you go thro this french station which is really really dark and looks like a metro station anyone know the name of this station????

I love travelling on the Eurostar trains - get on at St Pancras in London and get off at La Gare du Nord in Paris just over 2 hours later and in reverse coming back.
That brings back memories. I was on duty in the I.E.C.C that day and I remember all the top bods watching its progress and making sure it didn't get held up!
Interesting video. If this is the official video, it has terrible out-of-sequence video editing, as bad as the BBC.
If only Eurostar PR department stopped thinking they are such a special service, especially when compared to superior Thalys / TGV / ICE PR who let you do decent filming and without the Eurostar "we're better than you" attitude.
For long the rails on the english side have been in an awful quality compared to those on the mainland side. From this video I can tell they did invested money in the Eurostar after all.
lol, the smooth ride will blow you away so much, that when it comes to the tunnel, if you're still a bit scared, then you can close your eyes and all you will hear is a slight change in noise.

How odd. The Eurostar enters the tunnel in France at the channel, and exits in England over 50 miles inland at the M25 in Essex. WOW that is some tunnel!! Very nice video none the less.

We could have this in the US, but of course it requires government spending for infrastructure--can't have that!
So instead we go everywhere on planes, which we always deem prey to terrorist explosions.
dianasatyr 3 years ago 2
The US is much more spread out which makes it harder. Either way we should still have regional things like this.
dumbass1984 3 years ago
That comment about the US being more spread out is something I hadn't thought of!
Also, believe it or not, I heard on NPR that the US government is asking train companies for proposals for trains like this here!
But since it's from the Bush Gang it may be a trick designed to destroy publicly-funded trains, i.e., Amtrak.
dianasatyr 3 years ago
Of course... Planes are much faster than Amtrak. There were some plans for maglev in the US but were dropped due to high cost.
