  • Worked @ BG post office from Epi each Wednesday 89-91.Great memories from Cyprus.

  • I lived at 18 Citrus Square from 60 to 62 - this brought back terrific memories. Can't thank you enough - I don't think folk will be able to do this for much longer! I'd love to get hold of your footage. Ladies Mile, tunnel beach, orange blossom, Miss Gee at the primary school, doughnuts and coke in the NAAFI on a saturday morning

  • we lived at 10 mulberry mansions in 1985, such fond memories, going to the olympic size swimming pool, down the naafi, catching the bus to episkopi, so sad to see it all closed, when i visited cyprus in 2009, its lost its charm, sad to say, thank god for happy memories when my lovely dad was still alive,xx

  • Hairs just went up the back of my neck!!! Worked at medical centre from 1996 to 1998. Remembered Looking after 1 RGBW and Kings something. I lived at Akrotiri, 30 philipRoad. Hubby worked in tool stores, supply sqn. He also worked parttime at Akrotiri bowling alley where my son, who was born at TPMH was brought up!!!!

  • Wow, what a trip down memory lane, I used to live a 13 Carob Crescent from approx 1963 to '68.I recall going to Mama Redjeb's (sp) near the NAAFI and hire the mule, jump it over the storm drains and let it graze in the garden for the afternoon. We lived directly across from the playing field and school, with the cinema at the far end.

I can also recall my Mum taking me and my younger brother down to ladies mile.

This has been such a memory jerker, thanks so much for posting.

  • I went to this school from 1956 to 1960. How poignant to see it again. I forget I am not the only one with memories of this place. Thank you. Beautiful pictures. I love the school work still on the walls.. Carob Crescent...Jacaranda Ave... Oleander Ave...such evocative names.

Mr. Knight was my last head teacher there.

  • I went to the school form 1959 to 1961 and lived in Cirus Square I think number 18. Mr Knight was the Head Teacher and he lost his son Mervyn in the Turkish plane crash at Christmas 1961 returning from school in the UK. It was up and running for at least a couple of years before my family arrived. Had no swimming pool in those days!! mdo

  • I used to live at 13 Olive Grove 71 to 74 and went to the primary school. Have just returned from a holiday in Limassol and saw the base from outside the fence. I have always thought the fence went up in 74 and that we were the last ones to live in our house. Looking at these posts it seems I was wrong.

We did manage to get down and visit Happy Valley this trip, was great to see where we pitched our tent for the year and spend the weekends

  • I also lived in Oleander Avenue - can't remember the number. I must have been there in 1960/61/62 - I'm sure it must have been built earlier than the 60's? I also went to Berengaria school but you guys must have a better memory than me - cant recall the teachers, although I did live next door to Ian and Jean Goad and their son Jon who was a good friend.

  • I lived at 9, Pine Close from 1958 or so to 1962. I just googled earth and there it still is, so finding these clips has been great. I remember happy days in The Big Dip (forbidden, but we went all the same) and going to the Saturday Matinee. My Dad was in signals regiment working at Episkopi and my Mum worked in the Berengaria Library. I remember a small shop "Niazi Salie" or was it "Sali Niazi" all such a long time ago......Happy memories though.

  • I lived at 22 Oleander Ave from 1969 - 1972. I went to Berengaria Primary School. My first teacher was Mrs Lamb. I vividley remember the "ramp" in the play ground, and going to the Saturday Matinee, buying the soft drinks in round orange plastic containers and having water fights with them after. For a 7-10 year old it was a magic time.I remember our bus trips to ladies mile and the Cub Scouts and hut. The time spent goofing around in the storm drains was huge. Thanks for the memories.

  • I lived opposite the base, above the shop and elias' tavern. We lived here between 1982 and 1984, both my sister and I went to school here whilst my dad was working in the middle east and africa. I remember the swimming pool, and the school yard. I also remember when America bombed Libya, and the whole base being fortified overnight. Really strange to see it now, kinda sad really

  • Lived there in 1968-69 before moving to Akrotiri for another couple of years. Remember the school trips to Ladies Mile, with the old buses racing across the sand and the triangular milk cartons at playtime. Also a small shop near the NAAFI (called Mama's?) where I used to spend the money that my Mum gave me for my Cub Scout 'subs'. Also the scene of a major achievement; I learnt to tie my own boot laces (so that I could play football with the aforementioned cubs!). Great memories.

  • I must be a sad git,i,ve got the same programme from Berengaria, Dave.Have also got prog from band of Yorks & Lancs playing at Curium.sorry, long wait to reply, virus shut me down.

  • My brother sent me this link we lived on Berengaria from 69 to 72 I went to Episkopi for years 3-5.

Very spooky watching it and quite sad as to where the years have gone.

I did visit years later but couldn't get on.

Many thanks for the nostalgia trip.

  • It's a small world! Dave Hill, We may even have been in the same class/year (2A2, 3A2, 4A2 & 5A1). You were in Curium House whilst I, Dave White (blugderdog) was in Amathus House. My father recently sent me some old school play programmes he'd found, you played 'A frightened citizen' in 'The Gods of the Mountain' in Dec '67 and I had played an Ox driver in 'Androcles and the Lion' earlier that year. Our headmaster was Mr TA Roberts who we called 'Eckles'. Mick V kicked everybody about!

  • bludgerdog must have been on bus with me Dave Hill igot kicked down the aisle by Mick Vintis for refusing to shut my window so's he could smoke !

  • I used to go to the cinema in BG. to the matinees. I'd walk across the bondu, covered in darting lizards and rusting junk and the like to meet a long dusty road. Then I'd soon cross a bridge and walk through what I think was Berengaria village which was like a long township and then onto the camp. We were stationed in Cyprus from 1970-1973 and that hot long walk to the "flicks" remains in my memory. Sorry to hear of your loss mia19221

  • I lived on BG with my husband 82-84. The videos have brought back so many memories. Sadly my husband passed away many years ago, he would have loved the videos. we had the happiest years of our lives living in Cyprus.

In Loving Memory of Christopher, RIP x

  • I was living in Cyprus in 1957...1959 and went to school in Berengaria. My Father was stationed in Akrotiri. Great days......

  • @Mammasam16

you must have taken the school bus from Akrotiri too. Long hot ride ..loved it when we went through the plantation..Yani was our driver...

  • Thanks for such fantastic visions of a great place to live. We lived there between 1971 and 1974 in Oleander Avenue, my Dad serving at Akrotiri. I remember the bus rides to St Johns at Episkopi, my brother and sister at the camp primary. The shop outside the main gate sold fags and near the NAAFI was Mama's, where she sold cheap local ice-creams. I tried to visit to get some pictures in 2002 while on holiday, but was turned away by the Aux police. I would love to be able to get in and look

  • fantastic to see these and bring back so many meories - i was there 63-early 65 I suppose, evacuated, think I would have been 8. Mum worked in the library. dad was RAF Regiment.

  • What a lovely shock and the memories it brought back! I was at the Secondary school there from '65 to '68, bussed in from Akrotiri the local driver used to play 'Kaymoz' on the bus record player over and over again, we used to join in and sing along with him. After 40+ years, I still remembered the words -wonderful, many thanks!

  • Good two years at BG with the family

    1978 -1980 I think

  • Have just got back from Cyprus and tried to get in to Berengaria to have a look around! So pleased to find your video's and photos. Brings back lots of memories- I used to work at the B HIVE 1987 - 1989

  • Gosh that brings back lots of memories, I was on the island back in the early 1980's I lived in a street near the entrance to the camp (off camp) behind the row of shops.

I can remember going to the Naafi there and also the library.

I guess the place closed because of the reduced numbers and possibly high cost of maintenance? I wonder what will happen to the place now?

Thanks for sharing this with us, very much appreciated.

  • SORRY BUILT WELL BEFORE THEN I WAS AT SCHOOL HERE SEPT 65--MAY 68 MANY THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

  • I went to Berengaria Primary School 1970-1971. It is weird to see the place again.

  • Bizarre!!

I went back in 2004 to look around the place and the quarter I used to live in as a lad. It was 18 Carob Crescent!!

  • Use to live there many moons agao!

  • How sad, it looks like an internment camp now.
