Hi Dave!! Im seriously considering buying the ypg-535! The only thing i just wanna for sure verify with you is that i will be able plug this into my interface thats plug into my computer and record with pro tools?!! Im very very interested in the 535!! Is there really any huge difference between the ypg-535 and the dgx-640? All im really gonna do is use the grand piano setting! Thanks Dave! Hope to hear from you soon so i can make a purchase! :)
Thanks for your interest. You can definitely plug the YPG535 into your audio interface. You'll use the phone output (1/4 inch stereo) and a splitter cable...plugging into two 1/4 inch line inputs on your interface. You'll need speakers connected to your interface, because plugging into the phone jack mutes the 535's on-board speakers. Main Difference between the two: DGX640 has weighted keys, YPG535 has non-weighted.
@kraftmusic Hi Dave! Thanks for kind reply! I now have my heart set into the dgx-640! It seems like a great piano with a lot of great reviews! Im seconds away from buying it! You mentioned that i for sure can plug in directly into my interface! im just not for sure where i would plug it into! If you would please check this link out below and let me know i would greatly appreciate! Then i can buy my new toy!
Hi Dave. Prospective buyer. Was wondering your thoughts on how it sounds plugged into a p.a.? I've heard that there is no true line out and that it would have to be connected through the headphone jack which may cause static or noise....Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks for your interest in the YPG635. This instrument sounds great when plugged into a PA system. You are correct, the instrument does not have dedicated line outs so you'll need to use the headphone jack. I haven't found this to introduce any static or noise to the signal...in fact, you are hearing the phones jack in this video. Please keep in mind, the YPG635 has been replaced with the newer DGX640. Thanks for watching!
@kraftmusic Is this good for beginners? Also, does it show notes on the screen when you're playing? Please reply, because we're planning on buying a piano Sept. 16th or 17th. Thanks.
Thanks for your interest. The current version of the YPG635 is called the DGX640. The DGX640 sells for $799 and we have HOME BUNDLES starting at $874.99. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
Hello. This piano taught me to play Maple Leaf Rag! I really like the song lesson feature, it works for me. I'm wondering if there's a way to download more songs and have them function in the song lesson feature also. I want to play The Entertainer!
I have tried downloading the Mac driver for the 635, but it wont recognize the MIDI. Any suggestions? I can record a real instrument, but not the Garageband instruments.
@bamaboymusikluvr Have you been able to use you piano as a midi on your mac yet? Because if you haven't message me. I'm also using this piano on my mac
Thanks for your interest. Your keyboard is already a MIDI keyboard. Simply take a standard USB cable from the YPG625 to your computer and you can use any music production, notation, or lesson software. If you'd like to record digital audio from the instrument, just take a stereo 1/4 inch audio cable out of the headphone jack on the keyboard and plug into the line inputs of your computer. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
I was curious if there were any major differences between the Yamaha YPG635 and the Yamaha DGX640, and which one you consider to be a better value. Or if there was another digital piano in the price range you would recommend. Thank you!
Thanks for your interest in Kraft Music and the Yamaha YPG635/DGX640. The DGX640 is the direct replacement for the YPG635 (which has been discontinued). Yamaha made some small improvements to the instrument like the addition of a USB to Device port, as well as some cosmetic changes. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
Hello I wanted to ask about if the keyboard (w/ the stand taken in account as well) is really that portable. Are both things really that sturdy like to be carried around quite frequently without risks of breaking? Thanks
Well, I'd say the keyboard itself is quite portable. However, I wouldn't necessarily consider the included stand to be portable. The furniture-style stand thats included with the YPG635 is not really intended to be repeatedly assembled and disassembled. I'd recommend using a portable keyboard stand when traveling and leaving the furniture stand at home. Check out our STAGE ESSENTIALS BUNDLE for an example. Thanks!
Is there no longer a way to buy a bundle with the furniture-style bench? I like this instrument and the DGX640, but this one is in the right price range. I would prefer to have a "real" bench instead of the folding style though.
Thanks for your interest. Feel free to contact me at the number below and we can arrange a custom BUNDLE for you that will include a furniture-style bench. I look forward to doing business with you.
I would say the YPG635 would sound better when played through the on-board speakers. The YPG635 speakers are a bit larger and more powerful than the YPG235 speakers. Playing through headphones or an external speaker would sound about the same. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions.
i own one and would not use any other for my studio cds..the ypg is the best for my recordings and reccomend ...when recording the sound is very remarkable when recording internally or when plugging through an equilizer and stack amps etc.recording open..the organ selection is tops too kent crawford
Thanks for your interest in the Yamaha YPG635. This instrument comes with a single sustain pedal. You can add the triple pedal option, which is the Yamaha LP7. You may also want to consider our YPG635 COMPLETE HOME BUNDLE which includes the triple pedal option and some extra accessories.
Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
Does this specific piano have a transpose function? If not, do you know of an affordable (around $1000) electric piano that is similar that does? Also, what is the difference between the YPG-635, and the DGX-630? From what I've seen, they're almost identical.
Thanks for your interest in Kraft Music and the Yamaha YPG635. This instrument does have a transpose function. The difference between the YPG635 and DGX630 is simply in the distribution. The YPG635 is sold by full-service music stores like Kraft Music. The DGX630 is sold by big box electronics stores and discount retailers. The YPG635 also carries extra warranty protection. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions.
Thanks for your interest. Actually, the YPG635 and P85 share the same keyboard action, so they feel almost identical. The main difference between the two would be the additional sounds and features found in the YPG635. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns. Thanks again!
Thanks for watching. The Yamaha YPG635 ships from Yamaha with a small plastic footswitch. This switch can be used as a sustain pedal. You could also add a single Yamaha FC4 piano style sustain pedal or a LP5 triple pedal board. The LP7 triple pedal board would give you access to all three pedals found on an acoustic piano (sustain, soft, sostenuto). Feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
Thanks for your question. If you want to plug into your computer's stereo line input (back of the unit/sound card), you would need a cable that is 1/4 inch stereo on one side and 1/8 inch stereo on the other side. The 1/4 inch side will plug into the phones output of the keyboard and the 1/8 inch end will plug into the computer. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions.
Thanks for your interest in Kraft Music and the Yamaha YPG635. The YPG635 and DGX630 are essentially two different model names for the same keyboard. Thanks for your interest in Kraft Music and the Yamaha YPG635. The YPG535 and 635 are very similar in terms of sounds and features. The difference between the two models is in the key action. The YPG635 features a progressive hammer weighted action (like a piano), and the YPG535 features a semi-weighted action (like an organ or synth). Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.

I need to know how to record the sound from the digital piano, directly to the computer. Which cable/cord will I need for this?
