troy ounce is heavier because its got extra 10% in copper, not gold or silver,

an american eagle thats 31.1g thats 999 gold is same as a $20 gold piece thats 34.3 grams that 90% gold, both have 1 ounce of gold.

Troy Ounce = 31.1 grams, Regular Ounce = 28.34 grams.  Troy ounce is 10% heavier.
