They had the 101 E MKII setup with 2 mbl 9008A amps. Those amps are huge 300lbs each.. The sound filled the hole room evenly no matter where you were in the room with supper tight mids, effortless bass and neutral highs. Everything was so well balanced it was magic to my ears.

Listen to the MBL speakers at the Axponda show in New York. By far they are the best speaker's I've ever heard!

@efertheredfish MBL will be at the Axpona's New York show on June 24 and 25. I would guess that they will have at least the MBL 101's speaker system, being New York, they may even set up the X-treme's if we are lucky. I think you should make plans to attend.

@efertheredfish I have heard the MBL 101's a few times now with MBL electronics at some "Audiophile" shows. I have also heard and owned many model of Infinity's. I can honestly tell you that MBL is "decades ahead" on even their best! There is something very dynamic and very real about their system that even reference system seem to mess up.

@efertheredfish do you know what it takes to make an mbl let alone an mbl 101x MBL only has 50 employees 6 of which work on the hand making the speakers i takes months thtas thousands of dollars and thier not just foreigners working their highly trained pros they also hand assemble everything in house nothing is outsourced the actual price of the 10e mk 2 is more like 45,000 instead of 70,500

I heard MBL 101s at the 2004 CES show. I have no idea whether they are objectively accurate transducers but the musical experience left me with an impression of real music played in a real place more tangible and life-like than any playback system I have ever heard---and believe me---I've heard a lot.

now...can any one explain to me in clear words way this system cost U$250,000? what make it so special beside the name and design? does the sound quality worth all this servers, junk and money? why so big?

absolutly pointless. you have to be a complete idiot to spend $250,000 on these, let alone the cost of the amps, cables and your electricity bill. you could buy a house, car and a pretty decent stereo for less. useless

the MBL 101 extreme is one of the most beautiful loudspeaker design i've seen along with GERMAN PHYSIK'S gaub and lorely and duevel's jupiter series. some of the horn designs are probably the most artistic like avan garde and magico for example. Transmission audio is another insane design as far ribbons!

Es ist schon ein Wahnsinnsaufwand,mit welch einer Materialschlacht im High-End Bereich Komponenten und Schallwandler erdacht und gebaut werden!Diese von Herrn Wolfgang Meletzky persönlich präsentierte "Anlage" ist geradezu atemberaubend,besonders die X-treme.Gigantomanie!!!!!!!!!!­!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MBL hat mit dem 101d vor 12 Jahren bereits diese Art des Designs gewählt. Stets war diese Art der Grösse und des Klanges gigantisch.

Im KaDeWe stand über 2 Jahre lang diese Anlage (quasi "Vorversion") - das Goldfaserkabel war 1,2cm dick...

Lief die Anlage, standen innerhalb kürzester Zeit dutzende Menschen da

Ich war damals im KaDeWe,als diese "Anlage " dort ausgestellt war(in Klavierlack,glaube ich). Absolut beeindruckend.Vom Klang her wahnsinn!

Fantastic speakers. I would rather have the MBL 101e's than Wilson Audio Alexandria X-2's, and I heard them back to back. The MBLs are also a quarter of the cost!

The 101x's however are more than the Wilsons, and why not, SIX 12" subwoofer drivers plus FOUR "onion" mid-range drivers! Haven't heard these but if the 101e's are any indication, they are AMAZING!!!!

I heard 101s back in 2004 at the CES show in Vegas. The most impressive sound at the show by far. They were truly spectacular. Accurate?, I don't know but they sounded more life like and fun to listen to than anything I'd ever heard. Imagine the punch and slam of the best box speakers and the coherent transparency of electrostatics combined with omnidirectional enveloping openness. The only criticism I have is they are bag suckers for power. Low powered tube amps just won't do.
