The reason this is so rarely seen is that it nearly caused a strike at the BBC. It was made on a very tight budget (£100,000 of £300,000 from memory) but all the crews etc., had only been paid for a TV production - someone at the BBC wanted to give it a cinema release - and a strike loomed as wages hadn't been at film rates of pay. So the BBC agreed never to show it again in the UK - good quality
copy was shown in Eire last year. A grainy DVD is available in USA.
I love this film its up there with my all time favourites I first broadcast by the BBC probably in 1976 and as a collector of television programmes since 1982 (i have thousands of rare mostly UK programmes on a vast array of subjects in my collection drama to documentary etc etc) I was looking for this wonderful movie for years before obtaining a copy. Recently the brilliant director of this movie Clive Donner passed away.My mum was Peter O'tooles housekeeper in Hampstead during the early 1980's
@shofaruk Rented Manhunt, found it completely implausible. Anyone who had been caught shooting at Hitler would have been tortured and executed - as the von Stauffenberg bomb plot conspirators were.
@searcherboy For the sake of the story the hero was tortured and left for dead but survived. It wouldn't have been a very long movie if he had died in the first 15 minutes would it?
I watched the whole of this excellent film on here just before christmas when somebody had it up; now removed. The DVD copies seem to be of poor quality. So, prsurr1066, it would be great if you you could put the whole movie on here if you have it. Otherwise, anyone else got it? Cheers anyway for putting this teaser up.
Man is there any chance you have the whole movie? Somebody else had it uploaded to Youtube in its entirety but it was deleted for some fucking reason. This is an amazing film.
A remake of Fritz Lang's fine film MAN HUNT in which George Sanders plays a deliciously civilized and evil interrogator and Walter Pidgeon plays Thorndike.
It is always fun to see one of Peter O'Toole's over the top performances, but Lang made a better film.
Oh my God its the same nazi from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade! "This is how we say goodbye in Germany"!!!!!!!

The BBC radio production of the Geoffrey Household novel is being repeated on Radio 4 Extra at the moment. It's excellent: totally gripping.

I just got a copy of this on DVD good movie but the BBC let the film decay quite a bit and the editing is poor but worth a watch.

The best version of this movie is "Manhunt" with Walter Pigeon.
Made in the 1940's
Excellent movie.
