  • My golden does that too but now he likes to scare me when i take him outside he will bark at deer and have a starring contest and growl and bark at coyotes and will scare them off and he is 12 months old soon to be 1

  • Haha! My golden used to ALWAYS do that!

He would growl like the meanest junkyard dog if he saw the postman... All the while wagging his tail like crazy! Haha!

  • The golden is a good watchdog, but not his nature ... Bark usually against the presence of strangers and have seen my dog pounce on a bad-looking stranger who approached us on the street while we were walking. Good thing we wore tied with his belt. According to the vet, they act as if the family was the flock and feel obligation to react to an alleged attack. Also are very affectionate, especially with children and extremely intelligent.

  • Thats so funny. My Golden is named Charlie too. He does the exact thing except its only when he's happy. When i get home from work he growls for about 5 minutes and jumps all over me and licks me. Its so cute.

  • thats how my dog is.....you would think he would kill someone but wouldnt hurt a fly

  • haha! I have a almost 3 yr old golden retriever named.......CHARLIE...lol he does growl sometimes. like on holloween or a few days before,i went for a jog with him around the block. buttt...someone had a scarecrow with a pumpkind head tied to the bottomom of the tree with its arms back and he suddenly started growling and barking a bit. NO TAIL WAGGING...he would bite if he had to..i know it! but other than that, hes pretty good:) LOL hehe

  • my 2 year old golden growls and barks when the door opens at nighttime lol

  • Adorable! I wish my Little Golden would be like that. But that is not in their nature.

  • Hes not actually mean. He growls and wags his tail at the same time. :)

  • Do goldens actually protect owners though? Let's say there's a break in or the owner gets assaulted during a walk.. would they ever sense danger and attack?

  • Goldens are NOT the dog to get if you are looking for protection. Charlie growls and acts like hes big, but all he really wants is for that stranger to come pet him! However, I have never seen him react to a situation where I was in danger. I guess you never know how they will really react.

  • @ladyrene79 I will have to disagree, a friend of my older brother (who my golden had never seen before) was just wrestling me but to my dog it looked like he was attacking me, so it jumped over the 4ft fence it was in and came to my rescue tackling him and biting him. yes, they will protect you.

  • @ladyrene79 Goldens still do attack if their family is in danger, there have been many reports of this happening. My labrador does the same.

  • Aww my grandparents old golden was named charlie...I really miss him.

  • Haha, I have a labrador does the same thing. He'll look out and if he spots something, he'll bark, growl, run in circles, etc.

Of course he has never hurt anyone or anything in his life. I think he's just all talk and no action.

  • Lol my golden retriever Jake is exactly the same! He has a protective bark but only from behind gates or doors!

  • I has a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriver xD

Dogs can see ghost?? XD LOL!

  • are the best race that may exist

    no one like them

  • is that a toller*? I have one and they look exactly alike

*nova scotian duck tolling retriever- a super cute dog

  • omg my golden retriver is named charley too!!!

  • That's a great video. Of course, I have one, could be his twin.

  • omg!!!

i have a 5 month old golden, and my mom and i really want him to gaurd our house!!(it's just me and my mom living together)

how could you train your goldie to gaurd the house???

  • I have a golden at home and she's very possesive of our house .. we didn't train her she just grew protective over the years :P

  • You cant Lmao there the msot friendliest dogs there is lol

  • So scary, with the wagging tail too.

  • my dog does the same thing

  • Haha! both of my Goldens do that = P They act all tough but if you came in they would rush you with love! haha It's good that they actually do that because if there was an intruder he wouldn't come in >= D

We had someone try to come in our apartment one time and One of my Goldens Symbah always sleeps at the door and as soon as he heard the door opening he went off like a firecracker Lmfao! and the guy took off = P

  • Very cute!!!!

  • my dog is the same way. he is afraid of everything, but he makes yu think that he will get you. he just barks and runs away basiclly. lol.

  • HA! this proves that pitbulls arnt any more vicious than oyher dogs its the owners. Also its dog nature to prove its stronger then something else and to attack anything it feels threatend by thats why the kids pitbulls attack are always running around with sticks and showing their teeth to a dog when it does the same. ive learned my lessons i got bit by a dog 3 times and i know that it was my fault

  • I agree to some extent, especially about the owners. However, If I let a pitbull out after the repairman, he would attack him, trying to prove he is stronger, as you say. BUT, If I would have let Charlie out after that guy, he would have licked him and maybe beat him to death with his wagging tail. Its just the sweet disposition of a Golden Retriever. Love those dogs :)

  • A golden won't do anything like that. If anyone broke into my house etc at night, my Golden would chase them around wanting attention. You can do anything to a Golden and they won't respond in a negative manner. If someone pretends to hurt me infront of my dog, he jumps on both of us wagging his tail. Wouldn't hurt a fly.

  • Get 'em Charlie!!!

  • so this is your new goldie?

    nice dog

  • Yes, this is my new puppy. I got him back in April of 2005. He is as sweet as he can be! Thanks for your comments!

  • Thats so cool that you got a new golden, Charlie is very adorable. We're getting a new golden too in spring of '08. We already thought of a name; Stewey.

  • What a good boy!

    He is so sweet!

Please look at our Golden's video?
