Great video. I am a PT8 user on a PC and I am always looking at way to improve my template. Right now I am only limited to 32 instrument tracks so that causes problems right there but I am looking at either sonar or cubase as my composing DAW and route my midi's audio to PT8 to edit the audio and layer with video for film scoring. I guess I would like to know if bidule would be a good choice for me as well as whether or not cubase or sonar would be better for midi composition? Thanks.
@TheDarris Hey ,not sure where it is mentioned in the video, but I just used Bidule for having some extra 2GB of memory. Since everything is almost 64bit anyway, there would be no need to use it - at least personally for me! Currently if needed, I use VSL Ensemble 3
Hi I use Logic instruments only but there are some that aren't usable I think. Logic hasn't got any real dramatic horns like Hans Zimmer. The french horns available are small, dry and without dynamics. The oboe isn't usable either. Have any idea where to get single instruments instead of buying whole orchestra libraries? How much RAM do you need to get your set-up working? It looks kinda loaded
@rawstarmusic Hey, for Horns you might check out ProjectSAM, VSL Epic Horns or wait for Cinebrass or EW Brass. During the time I did the tutorial, I think I had 8GB in my Mac.
@alexpfefferdotnet OK thanks, I'll look for them. I have seen Cinebrass on YT and they sound fine. I added an extra 8GB so with 12GB I'm hungry for horns ,) Also I wonder if putting sections into Logic folders could be a way to manage arrangements. cheers
Very interesting! Did you do some other videos about the same subject? I m using templates in Logic 9 with 12 Go RAM too and I m using Miroslav Philharmonik. Do you Know it and what do you think about it?
@mymusic1237 hey, this is the only one regarding logic, i did many others (check my yt channel) but they are more about cubase or general stuff. yes i know miroslav, quite a cool lib but very outdated. if you compare with hollywood strings, lass or symphobia - it cant stay up with it. but nevertheless, it is not the lib which makes sound but the guy in front of the monitor! :o) cheers!
@alexpfefferdotnet Hi, thanks for your prompt response! I really agree with you about guy before machine ;) Miroslav outdated... but price very attractiv compared to the other...
@MrFilmComposer you're welcome! usually i apply reverb on busses/groups of the individual sections (such as strings, brass etc). I don't like working with sends and returns. not sure why, but i dont like to have the signal on an individual fx track.
@p631f well, the usual latency. if there is much going on i have to work at 1024 which is like 20ms, if i have less going on it can work at 256 or 512, which would be 7 to 12 ms ...
@robbie5665 Hey, I didn't use Bidule to make use of multitimbral. I used it back then to have 2GB of extra RAM for my orchestral instruments :) Please mind the date :) ... today we have the KMS in Kontakt 4, Logic is 64bit, there is VSL Pro Ensemble and all that. However, the Bidule solution is still actual for anyone who can't afford to buy the Logic update or any other of the above mentioned things. Cheers, Alex
@alexpfefferdotnet thanks for the reply. So if I understand it right if you are using 4 GB RAM for Logic and rest can get used for Kontakt by using bidule? (in logic 8 of course)
@robbie5665 Well today I would recommend to get Kontakt version 4, since it got - at least on a MAC - a memory server which allows you to host 32GB of samples (if you have 32GB in your machine) ... the usage would be NOT outside of your sequencer, but still using it as a normal VSTi inside it, BUT the RAM would be hosted in the system (not the sequencer).
hello thx for the tutorial but i want to know how do you rename the tracks,i mean is there an automatic way that the track take the name of the patch from bidule?
hey samben 5, thanks a lot but i am not really sure which track names you mean. as far as i know there is no option that the bidule tracks are use by logic ... i simply renamed the instrument channels in logic the usual way.
Hey, please check my other videos ... I already did that in a way. I would also make sure to check out Bidule support and their videos, sine they have a lot of detailed instructions too.
i did .. you showed how to open it in cubase .. i'm running logic .. i open up logic .. open bidule but the rewire instance won't pop up it goes on standalone mode .. i've been at it for hours and nothing seems to be working
oh sorry, you didnt mention logic ... i am working with both sequencers, currently more in cubase, so thats why i was in cubase world for a moment here :) ... make sure to check out a guy called SFLogicNinja or something like that. He is doing Logic videos and he also did one for setting up Reason, which is also ReWire ... you should get it by watching it. If not I would make sure to check with Bidule support.
Hope you forgive me, but I am a working composer and time is my biggest enemy. I enjoy creating those videos and like to show a "did you know that" or "whats possible with", but I think tech support can help you much more that I. Thanks and good luck!!! Alex
Well this is kinda complicated and would be the same if you asked me: Hey, what should I drive BMW or Mercedes :) ... I could give a statement and lots of people would have an argue against that and the other way round .... in first line the most important thing is where YOU feel home! :)
I personally prefer to work in Cubase since I am also doing lots of audio and to be honest the Logic audio engine simply doesn't do it for me ... even the new features of L9 are already 3 years old in Cubase :)
well yes, sure you could. Although you would need to know a few bits about 64bit, the 2GB per application limit etc. ... I would suggest to get a bit into it. You will find tons of info regarding this matter on forums etc.

Thanks for the clear explanation, and great video.
Q: Do you apply the reverb to stems or individual tracks? (i.e. do you send to a reverb aux stereo track?) Does that really matter?

Why use Bidule instead of the multitimbral functionality in Logic? Is it more CPU/RAM efficient or something?
