The funny thing about the spoons bit is we now know the guy who really directed The Room for Tommy just threw those picture frames in because they needed props. He thought it was funny that they still had the marketing shots of the plastic silverware in it, so he'd pan over it with the camera for a few days till that got old. So really, Tommy never put any thought into this at all. Good improv though haha
