  • 4 people are blind of soul

  • whoaaaaa

  • This should NOT be on an album...because it makes seeing them live that much more of a necessity.

  • they are so into music. GOOSEBUMBS!!!!

  • I think it is good that we have both versions. The studio and the live one.

Sometimes I am liking more this one, sometimes the other(which for me is more haunting).

It depents what mood is in you at the given moment.

  • ed's guitar is fantastic

  • Cant help feeling that this is what the studio version should have been, nice buildup, and then 1:36 onward is just pure unadulterated bliss, you've gotta listen to this on decent headphones to really hear this one...

  • ed's guitar is soothing.

  • i really want to see radiohead in japan.the japanese are so quiet and respectful...no chance of that in the uk....

  • This song is a masterpiece! Should've never end.

  • @Abruscato I absolutely agree. its so calm and beautiful

  • I can't believe how much I love radiohead; sometimes I surprise myself. While watching this video for the first time, I cried from the sheer emotional overload that comes with watching a band of this greatness. I'm so happy that I am alive to see this band unfold their creative message through the years. I work in film, and I am dedicating my upcoming short film to these guys.

  • @CristiaanC I cry because I only recently discovered this fantistic band while watching X Factor...(Creep). Then Youtubed them, bought their Greatest hits CD and have become an instant Fanatic.

  • 3 people don't know anything about good music

  • The greatest rock band in this era..long live radiohead

  • The day I listen to this song for the first time was a sad day because I knew a song as good as this might never come out in my lifetime

  • SUCH A GREAT SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thom Yorke smiles? Awww. :3

  • I cry every time I hear this song.

  • @HunterXerus fag

  • videotape is soo much better with radiohead than with just thom yorke

  • 4:34

  • Three people have no ears. What's sad is that it's probably true. :(

  • Three people have no ears. The sad thing: that's probably true. :(

  • @DoctorArbitrary yeah its called being deaf, show some respect!

  • this song reminds me of the Simpson episode when Homer is informed about the time has has left to live, and makes a video for lisa bart maggie and marge.

  • this song reminds me of the Simpson episode when Homer is informed about the time has has left to live, and makes a video for lisa bart maggie and marge.

  • PERFECT .

  • the song really executes the feeling that everything comes to an end and really makes look back at the greatest memories of your life.

  • Jonny's moving like he is making love to his instrument xD

  • this is god's voice

  • finally get to like this song...the last one

  • this song brings good tears. it brings a feeling of death that reveals the preciousness of life...or something

  • i dont know what jonny is doing but i know its brilliant.

  • @alibhojani2 he's on the drum machine.

  • @alibhojani2 Same with Ed O'Brien. This version should have been on the album.

  • @alibhojani2 I don't think anyone else in the band knows what jonny is doing, he is a wizard...

  • Juizzness. :')

  • I get teary eyed every time.

  • Best live version ever of this stuff, brilliant.

  • everyone who's been giving me nasty comments about Green Day, I didn't mean to say it as if Radiohead is bad. I was simply saying why did this come up? Because the song i typed in was Android. I don't see the word Android here anywhere, so i was just confused. I'm not hating on Radiohead, so there's no reason for you to comment back hating on Green Day.

  • ed is amazing!

  • Radiotape.

  • this was a fucking amazing concert

best version of how to disappear/weird fishes and this kind of videotape

i say this type because i live the piano version in the basement just as much but for different reasons

  • i like this more then the studio one maybe

  • why did this video come up when i typed "Green Day Android live" ??? :S

  • @NisaArmstrong why did you even search "green day"?? haha i'm just joking! i used to listen to them too.but since i discovered some really great bands one of them being radiohead i realised what i've been missing.

  • @NisaArmstrong Because this is what you should be listening to instead.

  • @NisaArmstrong

Because youtube redirected you to music rather than utter pish :)

  • @NisaArmstrong Because it's just that good.

  • @NisaArmstrong I don't know, but i'm bet you're pretty happy it didn't take you there, i know i would be.

  • @iamawickedchild13 everyone who's been giving me nasty comments about Green Day, I didn't mean to say it as if Radiohead is bad. I was simply saying why did this come up? • this song is jus sooo beautiful....

  • @1234hellowanker yeah, i confess that the album version don´t catch me that strong, but this one is amazing, i love what ed is making with the guitar! sorry my bad english

  • one of my favouritest songs EVER.

    Radiohead just keep on conquering

  • i like this more than the cd version.... what you guys think??? saludos desde mexico

  • what does ed uses at the end??? electro harmonix or something like that???

  • LOL one sad sad person disliked this..

  • @fatfuckfucker I didn't thumbs down it, but I don't begrudge anyone who does. It's definitely not one of their better songs, for my money.

  • @ArseneWengerIsGod

It's one of their best D:

  • IN SAN DIEGO CA 2006, I first heard that song long before, while we waited for test at ENTRY AND WHEN touched, PEOPLE LISTEN TO THE PIANO AND PIANO ALL THE SHOUTING WE JUST DID chills.... PERFECT DAY I NEVER SEE!

  • Was that a little smile shared with Jonno and Thommo?

  • Not to a dick about it, it would be A C# E, Db is not part of the chord, completely wrong key. If I were you I would stop over analysing the 'hidden' meaning in the voicing of the chord.

  • I like this version - it combines the original and album versions into something new

The original is still my favourite though

  • @Freej77 music = art

  • I agree with AITDS, this version makes so much more sense than the In Rainbows version of the song. There's a tear on my trackpad right now.

  • Quick, someone run on stage and get Johnny's Roland TR-909 for me!

  • I wanted one so bad, but they are so much money, I had to settle for the TR-707 haha

  • anyone know the effect Ed uses at around

    4:16 ??

  • @bbknux1 i wanna know it too, sounds just awesome isn´t it??? if you get the answer please tell me... i will tell you i i find it : )

  • @radioivan18 its called a ebow and maybe a electro harmonix memory man.. The best info i can give ..

  • it sounds like, he looped the riff he was doing, and manipulating the speed with an experssion pedal, or a delay pedal, with the feedback dimmed and again warping the delay time with an expression pedal.

  • This song is perfect. It's conceptually brilliant in the sense that the experience of dying is related to a recording on videotape, The way the drums imitate a rotating mechanism that plays the videotape, The way the synthesized beat at the end resembles a heartbeat slowly stopping. The song is also brilliant in it's execution with Thom's vocals at it's best & the timing of every instrument spot on. The cheeky smile of Thom at the end reveals it all.

Its on par with How To Disappear Completely

  • @AITDS wow i love this band to no end but you sound like a fucking douche. it a song thats it and i think you kinda over thinking it.....

  • @killagee13 Seriously, if you aren't familiar with their work then don't even bother to comment. Their songs and albums are always a lot more than just a random collection of pretty sounds and arbitrary lyrics. I suggest you delve deeper into their material and find it out yourself, if you really 'like' this band so much.

  • @AITDS Brilliantly put!

You only get these songs from Radiohead. I can't think of any other bands who can make such beautiful songs with such clever, creative ideas merged into them.

  • @AITDS I kinda feel like this surpasses the version on the actual album.

  • @0armin0 definitely, but i don't think this grand version would have suit the album well as a closer..

  • Anyone else here actually know the lyrics?

Its horrifyingly depressing wen u realise wat its about.

  • I disagree. i think it's a very hopeful song about the beauty of death.

  • Yeah what I get from the lyrics its like his way of saying goodbye, I wouldn't call it depressing, creep is more depressing. This song is just pure beauty.

  • this is not music!!!!!

    this is art (:

  • 2:05 look at jonny tru the screen¡¡¡ he dances so awesome¡¡

  • the best band in the world.

  • in the concert here in mexico, when i saw jonny, the first thing i sayed was... damn, his hair is more than perfect¡¡

  • I have & prefer short hair normally, but damn, his hair is amazing!

  • @radioivan18 lol why do you feel the need to mention you saw them there in mexico in every vid?

  • sorry man, is just that, as you know is fucking amazing, i is something that i wont forget... i don´t know, is just great.... i love coment¡¡

  • jaja que buen concierto en el foro sol :)

  • Has anyone noticed that the chord progression spells out DEAD? He uses D-flat but still. Pretty crazy!

  • and he starts at A so it would be A | Db | E | and then he starts at A again..

    so not really.. sorry.

would be fitting though but it's not true.

amazing song btw, especially live :)

  • I know it starts on A, It still spells D(b)EAD(b) over and over, no matter what chord it starts on. I have a feeling it was intentional, especially because of the lyrics. It just happens to sound better when it starts on A.

  • there is so much emotion in his voice. never the same. but beautiful.

  • Absolutely genius, music and lyrics working together perfectly.

  • Amazing...

I'd love to know what program Jonny's using to emulate the 909...

  • He actually is using a TR-909. He has a rythym going on the 909 he has all the different instrument outputs going to a mixer. Then he just turns up the instrument(s) he wants to hear.

  • Oh, right. Thanks! I just assumed he was emulating as he was by his computer.

  • i guess this is as good as it gets. overfuckingwhelming. and what ed does a lot of times will be a mystery to me until i meet him in person and ask him. he's the most underrated musician in any band there ever was!

  • how does ed do what he does at the end on guitar? ..

is it a filter or what?

  • I think he use whammy pedal (octave up),a lot of reverb and delay..

  • my favorite preformance of my favorite radiohead song!!!!

  • It is hard to get more perfect than that

  • Beautiful, touching, raw and unique everything a Radiohead song is supposed to be.

  • At a performance like that, all you can do is sit back, close your eyes, and let the music take over...

  • exactly

  • Beautiful. :]

  • loving the reciprocal smile Jonny - Thom at the end of the song..

this version of videotape is my favourite

  • i understand the world of things happens in more than three dimensions; that i do know. i wanted to share that with you.

but you keep seeing ghosts. and i'm not there.

  • the simplicity is what makes this song so beautiful

  • this is as good as a song gets. bar none.

  • Amazing Song Radiohead The best Thom fantastic!!!!

  • if only this version was the same on the album.

  • damn bloody right!!!

  • I love it that Jonny's animated even in manipulating a drum machine. The man is truly immersed in the music.

  • I second to that DavidRicardo4. Glad to share same opinion about this beautiful song ever made by Thom!

  • fantastic!!!!

  • Very well done indeed by the crowd. Wish people were that respectful back in the States. This song is not meant to be cheered, simply absorbed.

  • I know, it's so great to hear nothing from the crowd when they play songs like this!

I hate it when people in the crowd are really yampy during songs like this. Really ruins the experience.

  • what does ed have on guitar at the end? somehow he strums and it makes synth noises. anybody know the name of the pedal or something similar?

  • have they ever played 4 min warning live? i love that song!

  • they did !

    but back in 2006

    for the Pre-In Rainbows tour.

I wish they brought it back though ;(

  • The most perfect song and band and performance...ever.

  • Hats off to the Japanese crowd for staying perfectly silent throughout the song! It's captured beautifully.

  • pal pico jonny en el minuto 3:37, se vuelve loco!

    temaso

  • tengo algo para decir... DIOS MIO!!!!!!!!!!!

  • definitely my favorite on In Rainbows. It's a perfect ending

  • Damn, Ed adds some nice touches to this version of the song; that nice little guitar bit that starts at 1:36 and the "wash" effect created at 3:55. Then you have Phil with his delayed drums, and the TR-909 maestro himself, Jonny Greenwood. Love it!

  • remynash is absolutely correct. this reminds me of when someone claimed jonny was playing the ondes martenot during everything in its right place.. LOL

  • Amazing performance.

How can one band write so many perfect songs?

  • Guys, its a simple drum machine (the TR-909). Nothing else. Where the hell is the KAOSS pad and Hammond coming in?

Sorry, but at least know what something does before claiming Jonny is making complicated magic with all his equipment.

  • i mean the instrument, the name is?

  • its either his Emu vintage keys synthesiser module which is played through a Fatar controller, a Hammond XB-2 alomg with his Korg Kaos pad

  • Or a drum machine?

  • yeah it sounds like he has a couple hits on the Kaos pad, but maybe not. but he is definitely y\using 2 of those synthesizers

  • It's a mixer. He is mixing the drum samples that are coming from his drum machine, Roland TR-909. So he is controlling the drums basically.

  • what is jonny playing??

  • its a tearjerker in the best of ways

  • They should close one concert in Mexico with this song

    Absolutely beautiful song

  • yeah man i agree, this is one of the most beautiful songs ever writen

  • I cant wait any longer!

    are you from mexico?

  • nope but i agree with the beautiful songingness haha

  • i agree that the minimal from the basement version is incredibly powerful...thom yorke at his best in my opinion. but this version is so amazing, it really shows the cohesion of this band and the immensely great music they write.

  • what pedal does ed use at the end?

  • ive been asking people that for awile no answere

  • That is probably some kind of filter-sweep he dials in on his LoveTone Meatball

  • AITDS = Silly Kunt

  • lol

  • hmmmm hd makes me moist

  • amazing in every way. notice how they all play together so balanced and beatifully.

  • this (and the rest of the 2008 tour renditions) is infinitely times better than the 2006 version (which sounded great, but never quite right, especially the ending). it's better than the album one as well. they really built this into something powerful. and the lighting of course helps. andi is the man.

  • they're inching their way back to the tremendous way this song used to be played. this is beautiful.

  • Is this like a leaked DVD or something? Its so awesome

  • no, it's a tv broadcast
