with the tall rocks in the beginning i thought to myself "where are all the cheesy drums and band members?" But then toward the middle that's when they popped out with all the drums and instruments out in the middle of nowhere. Then it was TRULY my cheesy 80's music video I was looking forward to.

@sudokuwkroku the U2 similarity was probably intentional -- not only in sound, but in visuals. Compare this video with U2's New Years Day. Then, after that, check out Big Country's "Wonderland" video. There you have it: three chiming anthems of 80s idealism -- slowly succumbing to frostbite out in the snow.
@sudokuwkroku unfortunately no, I haven't got a copy of it. The Wonderland video was here a few months ago -- but you're right, it seems to have been taken down now. Luckily though, there are a lot of Big Country fans on YouTube. I'm sure someone will upload it again soon.
Thank you Ultravox for daring to aim for the stars, for never giving in, and putting your heart and soul into your music to create something truly beautiful even when it may never be fully appreciated or successfully in the mainstream....What an inspiration!! They are the finest new wave band of all time in my opinion.
Right up there with Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, Duran Duran, OMD, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Talk Talk, Alphaville, A Flock of Seagulls, Kim Wilde, and Missing Persons....
@DuaLeaD Thank you; no one has expressed this the way you just have; I tip my hat to you! Masterful, meaningful and memorable. When the "chips are down" - blast this song!
@AlysounRI Thank you for the lyrics; it demonstrates your love and passion for a song and a video that is as timeless now; as it was when created ('80s?). Might you help me with a question on the meaning of the section beginning circa minute 2:40 +? I am not embarrassed to suggest to everyone that in these background images; a message was issued way back then that applies to global issues in one specific area of the world and it's not where there is ice and snow; but barren - yes. Please help
Some seem to me to be from other Ultravox videos, I see Hymn and others.
For a stunning Ultravox video see "We all fall down" - powerful and beautiful and poignant and cutting all at the same time. Sorry I could not be of more help.
Chorus: One day where I didn't die a thousand times Where I could satisfy this life of mine One small day One day where every hour could be a joy to me And live a life the way it's meant to be One small day How many times has it turned against you How many times will they walk away How many times have you let depression win the fight Oh my sentimental friend We'll walk as one again (Chorus)
They are wonderful lyrics!! "If the stack is high against you And the hammer's coming down And the time that's yours lies heavy in your hands Oh my sentimental friend The fast much reach an end Lying face down on the cold stone And they give their all to you But their all is slipping through your hands Oh my sentimental friend Your time will come again
My favourite band and one of my favourite songs. Simply great!!

The sound is a little wispy for an official release. At least when I put the YouTube volume up to max. Could this be fixed?

Aaah.. my youth, like Midge's hair, has long since gone. But I still listen to their albums on a regular basis. One of the best male singers ever.

Too bad Ultravox didn't explored this rocker style more. They could have been even bigger.

One day where I wouldn't feel my senses die
Where nothing made me hang my head and cry
One day where I could see myself as others do
Where I could feel the strength of love at hand
One day where I didn't die a thousand times
Where I could satisfy this life of mine
One day where every hour could by a joy to me
And live a life the way it's meant to be

How many times will they walk away
