  • Maybe I am the only one, but I like the 2000 more. Its brighter. I like that.

  • What's the song he starts playing at the 0:32 point ?

  • @DerekBarssProduction Riff Raff by AC/DC. It's off of Powerage, a great album. Buy it, you will NOT be disappointed!!!

  • Love the choice of music

  • SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP, I bought a Marshall jcm 2000 dsl 50 about a year back and ive never been able to get that kind of Randy rhoads/ megadeth heavy metal tone and boost that i need for my solos and rythm playing, can anyone reccommend a awesome pedal?!?! thanks.

because i was thinking about swapping my jcm 2000 for a JVM 205h would that be a good idea?

  • @JoshGoldie For OLD Megadeth use the dsl for rhythms, then put on an Ibanez Tube Screamer for solos! (or get a JCM800 or JMP and do the same thing) For NEW Megadeth, try a Rocktron Prophesy preamp/effects, a Digitech GSP1101 preamp effects, or a Fractal Audio Axe FX into a Marshall. power amp. I know they have used these preamps in the last 10 years.

  • @JoshGoldie boss super overdrive or ibanez tube screamer... another thing you can do is take an mxr phase shifter and mod it with a boost and turn it all the way down it gives a good sweep/treble sound

  • i like more the jcm 800

  • jcm800 of course...the vintae sound ..end of story

  • hey How could I get the Slash Zakk Joe perry kindda classic Hard Rock and roll tone??

  • hey..I was just wondering how you can switch between the two Inputs. Which pedal are you using?

    M.

  • @marten2374 t was just a regular A/B box. I guess I was lucky that time fot I hadn't any ground loop hum. I've tried this the other day and the hum was incredibly loud.

  • cool demo!!! i've got a dsl 100 head and i thought i needed a jcm800, but now i don't think so. i love my dsl. it'd an awesome amp. ttyl, brent

  • @hevechvy mate me too. the dsl100 is the absolute best. especially if you put decent tubes in it... i thought mine was starting to sound crap.. i just replaced one preamp tube and it rocks again!

  • i play death metal grindcore what do you recommand ?

  • @spudvader86 I completely agree. I'm

    Getting a jcm 800 2205

@bdh 777 I would so get a plexi if I could afford one!! I make musician wages :P

  • do you recommend the jcm 200 dsl for someone who plays thrash metal stuff?

  • @wegonnaownyanoob With a pedal in front of it you can have a perfect thrash metal tone.

  • @wegonnaownyanoob better off with a 6505 the dsl can get real fizzy.not a bad crunch tone though but lacks the balls that the older marshalls had.

  • which amp would you recommend for a classic rock style of playing? or just in your opinion is the greater of the amps?

  • @CrowCanyonBand JCM 800, it's what all classic rock what written on any ways. The JCM 2000 is like the 800 but a bit brighter and with more bells and whistles.

  • @CrowCanyonBand The greatest classic rock amps of all times: Plexi.

  • The DSL is way better!!!!!

  • I love that crisp tone on the jcm 800, it's like the 2000 just doesn't cut through witht the gain the same way

  • As far as the two amps I think the DSL is close to the Kerry King Signature 800 which I would prefer in the 800 series amp. I have both of these amps they are both great there is also a mod people are switching Transformers to Mercury and a choke etc

  • Nice Demo I think it proves you can buy a 2000 dsl and get the 800 sound. I recognize the higher gain and prefer it in the dsl 2000 The DSL 2000 also accomplishes its goals to be more versatile usable for Country say with the clean channel and reverbs etc.

  • I liked the JCM2000 better. Sounds tighter to me.

  • JCM2000 Has brighter cleans than the JCM800, and the JCM800 has warmer mids than the JCM2000, Basically JCM2000 Is a clean amp, JCM800 is a overdrive amp, But both can be used for both jobs, JCM800 is vintage, JCM2000 is modern, Put them together you get AWESOMENESS ;)

  • I prefer the JCM 800. I play a 800 2210 in a classicrockband ... a great sounding workhorse! Just check my channel.

  • I also prefer the JCM2000...but the JCM800 is the second greatest Marshall of all time, IMO :)

  • Wow, I dare say I think I like the 2000 better, even if I didn't happen to know that it has more gain on tap, just one these similar crunch settings. I'm gonna try to find one of the DSL 1x12 combos, swap for KT77's and JJ's in the pre for now, and build it a replacement combo cab to the same dimensions, but out of solid maple or maybe poplar, and stain it ebony with a white burlap grille.

  • Nice vid......

But there's just one mistake: How could you possibly compare the two heads with these completely different cabinets ? ;-)

Most of the people don't mind..... but the speakers / cabinets are more more more important as many think!

  • @Dagag90

...even if I wrote with capital letters, people still post without reading about what's actually happening in the video.

  • @Bdh777 I'm so sorry!!!!!!!!! Shame on me, and every one who comments without reading "READ THE DESCRIPTION FIRST:" in the description ;-).....

You're so right, two gorgeous amps, just different....... i would prefer the JCM2000

  • @Dagag90 It's alright brother, you're welcome ;).

  • @Bdh777 Even from just HEARING, you can tell it's the same cab and same microphone. No capital letters needed for those who have ears. The basic ambience of the tone does not change in any way when amps are switched.

  • @Dagag90 couldn't agree more!! this is more of a comparison between cabs than anything haha :P

  • @welcomewednesday

"...even if I wrote with capital letters, people still post without reading about what's actually happening in the video."

    and AGAIN and AGAIN...

  • DSL 2000 HAS THE JCM 800 in it you just have to dial it up . I think DSL 2000 is one of the best sounding amps Marshall has made. it makes my JCM 900 sound noisey

  • Marshall is Marshall! Still the best! But I do prefer the JCM 2000 DSL!

  • Both sound great. I just got a JCM2000 as a graduation present a week ago. Too bad I can't use it right now. I have a tube going out and it keeps blowing the fuse. =[

  • @herokight I replaced my tubes in my TSL (not too much difference in tone to the DSL, just more options) I used Groove tubes, matching set, didn't even need to bias the amp. Also I replaced my 1st preamp tube with a Mesa. The other preamp tubes I left the same, but the 1st one is the main tube in the preamp stage that determines the tonal quality of the distortion. I gotta tell you, my amp has never sounded better. Might wanna give those tubes a try if you haven't changed them already.

  • Funny, I've got an 82' 800 2205, that looks exactly like that... same color. Had it reworked. Changed the OT and Choke for Mercury's, changed caps and diodes.

I clearly hear a difference in the tone of both your amps when A/B'ing them and it's what I'd expect. Naturally I prefer the 800 and think it sounds killer. Nothing personal but I never liked the 2000's or most of the Marshalls that came after the 80's. Just a preference.

  • if you pulled the treb back and kick the mids up on the DSL how close do you think you could get to simulating the 800's voicey midrange sound?

  • @MrCooterbruzer The mids on DSL were @ 9. It can't get that 800 tone using cabs with G12T75, only if you use vintage voiced speakers.

  • Can you tell me please, how to connect two heads into one cabinet?

  • @AndreyZvir That's a 1960, if you use both jacks each one goes to 2 speakers @ 8 ohms.

  • @Bdh777 I get it, thanks)

  • @Bdh777 i have a cab with two jacks on it... could i do the same thing?

  • @justin0185 Careful with that. If it's a 1960 I can guarantee you can, for it automatically disconects its jacks from each other when you plug both jacks. I don't know if other cabs work this way, but I guess most don't.

  • Damn !!! I love jcm 800 with that brown close, I hope some day have one !!! Congratulations !! I really would be glad if i had that amp. Very good demo!! by the way

  • Does the response to picking differ a lot between the two amps? I really dig both tones by the way, pure awesomeness

  • I'd say JCM800 Is better for rythm wherelse JCM2000 is better for lead :)

  • Nice to hear Riff Raff! I love playing that song. I recently pulled my JCM 800 out of the closet (I have been using a Blackstar HT5 for practice, the 800 is too loud) and I forgot how great it sounded. Tomorrow I'm going to try to get a video up of it with the volume around 8. It's frighteningly loud, but it just sounds sooo much better with the volume higher and the distortion gets way tighter.

  • do you use a power attenuator for the jcm 800 ?

  • @clust90

Not in this video, they´re all on preamp drive.

  • Which is better for cleans?

  • @schim242

    DSL for sure.

  • jcm 800 is more ballsy than the DSL. personall preferance, 800. DSL sounds too high!

  • Hmm interesting comparison. I own a JCM 900 and a 2000 DSL 100. Id have to say my 900 seems to have more of a open roar to its distortion whereas the 2000 has more of a punchy distortion with a lot of unwanted peripheral distortion in the sound. (im not talking bout how high the distortion can go but rather the extra dist. when u play). On the 900 I have Winged C tubes and 2000 I have JJ tubes

  • RIFF RAFF!

  • uuuuuuu noma ese ampli suena genial komo para un trash!!!

  • Which one do you prefer?

  • @TheGazWaz I've just sold the DSL. That might answer your question.

  • wats the difference between 2205 and 2203?? for the jcm800?

  • @guitarsalert The 2205 has 2 channels and also diode clipping to achieve higher gain.

  • Is the JCM 800 too loud for practice in my own room?...how low can u get the volume,, and still have a cool overdriven tone?

  • @nikolajhansen15 You can get nice tones at any volume, but if you want some hi-gain they don't have that at low volumes then you'd need a overdrive/dist pedal.

  • @nikolajhansen15 get a hot plate. do it now..

  • What do you like the most? I have a Marshall JCM 800 2203Kerry King. I would like to get some Maiden sounds. Maiden uses JCM 2000, right? And I need something inside my house :) I have all my gear in the garage.

  • RIFF RAFF!

  • The JCM definitely has more of that Marshall roar.

  • @jb1563700

Absolutely.. but both are JCMs ;)

  • @Bdh777

Oh. Right. The JCM800, that is.

Curse you, slow brain of mine...

  • @Bdh777 They both sound good, but I like the 800 even better, so full and chunky sounding, spot on AC/DC too. Is there a way to mod those to give them a lot more gain for modern stuff, or is it still the old pedal boost? It would be nice to have an 800 and be able to go from clean to very high gain metal with just the push of a channel switching button.

  • @ctalbert1 With a 2205/2210 you won't need a boost pedal. If you want a 2203 with more gain, you may try the Kerry King model.

  • I like the JCM2000 more personally, maybe Im being biased since I own one,but it just seems cleaner and tighter and just overall better sounding. Which marshall amp has the most gain/distortion?

  • @rockerdude29 between those two, the 2000 has more gain, although this 800 model has a lot more gain than the traditional 2203/2204.

  • Crank it up man!

  • hi, do they make jcm 800's with footswitchable clean and gain channels?

  • @justbass4 that they do....its the jcm800 2205 model like the one in this vid....i personally like the jcm 900 dual reverb and u can find them pretty cheap for like 700 bucks

  • Kinda makes me want to trade my 800 for a 2000

  • id go for the jcm 800, it has a more classic tone in my ears, and i bet you can get more bluesy tones out of it as well as crancking up the gain, i like the jcm 2000 as well, but its more metallish i think....both sound awesome tho....most expensive marshall amps sound awesome, shame i dont own one =/

  • hello im getting a new amp either a jcm 800 900 2000 or vox ac 30 i really wanna get a nice brown sound like van halen and tight overdrive like guns n roses , kiss and ozzy ousbourne but i will also need to clean up the sound to get a jimi hendrix or pink floyd tone which amp should i get and those the jcm 800 take pedals well because it has no fx loop thanks give me opinions .

  • @12345678ix

Some of the 800 have fx loops (mine has) but yes they do take drive and boost pedals very well.

Now it depends how clean do you need it to be. If you need a sparkly clean you'd better get a JCM2000.

  • @Bdh777 well yeah i want a nice clean tone it dosent have to be too sparkaly though just a good amound also i have a phase 90 which can make the sound warmer but im looking mostly for that van halen brown tone and tight overdrive like gnr and ozzy with a nice clean on the side also if theres any other amp that can work ill be glad to look at it thanks

  • Your JCM2000 sounds great! How would you compare it to my Silver Jubilee 2555? The more I here these JCM2000 the more I like them :-)

  • dsl sounds fuller and less thin,800 sounds like its bass would be at like 8 and treble is maxed( if u know what i mean), and the dsl sounds like its mixed to where its balenced in bass and treble

  • marshall could discontinue every amp and just sell the 800 and they'd still pawn every company out there in my opinion.

  • good demo....thanks

  • whats your settings on the jcm 2000?

  • a friend of mine has a moded jcm 800 it fucking pawns everything known to man.

  • great video!

  • 800 till the end

  • riff raff and shot down in flames! :)

  • Nice comparison. Both great amps. The 800 seemed more organic with nice midrange but thin. The DSL had nice full bottom but a bit compressed. I'd like to have one of each!

  • Great Amps but i prefer the DSL!

Do you know the settings on the dsl ?

  • jcm800 trash

  • i think the jcm 800 sounds a lot better. the jcm 2000 has that unwanted distortion with a lot of "highs"...maybe bring the bass up....but yea nothing can really beat an 800 in my opinion

  • What brand preamp tubes do you have in the jcm 800?

  • hey mate whats the settings on the DSL ?

    Thanks

  • I would love to have any of these two

  • @rcagliari TSL sounds very similar to DSL.

  • How can you make a comparison through different cabs!!!

  • @richedie How can you write faster than you read?

  • LOL! Sorry, just read that. Continue on. :)

  • @Bdh777 lol well said

  • AC FUKIN DC!

  • I'm looking into buying a JCM 800 2210. Is there any big tonal difference between the 2205 and the 2210, or does the 2210 just have a bit more head room than the 2205, seeing as how it is 100w?

  • No, there isn't tonal differences. But you'd better research a little. There are 2 different versions of those amps during the years they were in production. This one is what they call 'later 2205'.

  • @skinnykb182 i must say out of all marshall 50 watt heads i always like the 100 watt over the 50 watt because the 100 has more balls and clarity and to me better tone.

  • I love the JCM 800. Its a vintage, and beautiful. But i like how they've done the JCM 2000! I meen thats the amp i'm getting (The DSL 100). But i'd never hesitate to switch to a JCM 800

  • The YOUR JCM sounds better than YOUR 2205.

  • i had jcm 200 DSL 100 it was my first tube amp than i got an ENGL INVADER 100

GET ENGL IF YOU WANT DARK SOUND OR YOU WANNA HAVE BALLS ENGL ENGL ENGL POWERBALL OR INVADER MONEY TALKS LOL

  • Have you tried installing a pair of Vintage 30s with the g12t-75 as a set?

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980

I'd like to. They might get more mids for the DSL.

But after I've got this JCM800 I stopped thinking about that.

  • the 2000 seems to have more harmonics. Cool

  • This is a little unfair because the dsl is a 100 watt amp and the 2205 is only 50, so the dsl has a bit more headroom and clarity.

  • Great playing! Both amps sound good but its all about the person behind the guitar. You are awsome man!

  • JCM 2000!!!

  • The 800 is getting better harmonics, Is the 2000 exactly in the amps sweet spot? The harmonics ar'n't as pronounced on the 2000, its off a little

  • Sorry DSL owners......I played on a DSL 2000 for about 10 yrs and it sounded good but I wasn't totally satisfied until recently purchasing a 1989' 2205. The JCM 800 2205 is the best sounding amp I've ever heard. Overdrive channel that is...clean could be a little better.

  • id say the 800 is darker soudning but both good amps

  • jcm 800 sounds warmer

  • @HBK1337 true, the jcm2000 sounds a bit more harsh

  • what is the guitar???

  • Fender Telecaster (pickup SDuncan Hot Lead Stack bridge)

  • It says in the description at the side!... guitar: Fender Telecaster (pickup SDuncan Hot Lead Stack bridge).

  • I have the dsl and I have played a friend's 800. Both are GREAT amps... but I agree the dsl is more versatile (obviously)

The tones of the two are so similar it's hard to say what sounds better. I really love the dsl alot..

I actually AB it with my Twin Reverb and when they're driven together... the blend of the two tones is soooo nice!!!

  • awesome video man,it seems that jcm 2000 have that ''marshall tone'' no?

  • How do you set the ohms on the dsl & cab?

  • 8 ohms each head.

Tha cab was set to stereo, each side was using 2 speakers (16 ohms) wired in parallel.

  • Thanks for this demo - Im quite interested in the DSL. Played it the other week in a shop and was very impressed. Cheers

  • push in the deep button on the DSL and it will have less highs and deeper bottom like the 800. Much more versatile amp.

  • i know it's sacrilege but the DSL sounds better. i'd be interested in hearing a pre-1985 Jcm 800 2203 compared to the DSL. i'm actually torn between buying an old 2203 or a DSL right now!

  • i agree the dsl sounds better

  • @bigassmatic does the dsl have more brutal gain than the jcm 800

  • jcm2000 is brighter

  • I never thought I'd find myself saying this but I actually thought I preferred the DSL - the gain sounded too compressed and loose on the JCM800 and much tighter on the DSL, but thats just me - I usually love JCM800 tones!

  • I have both early 80's JCM 800 and a 1999 JCM2000 DSL.

Nothing can match a JCM800 Marshall for getting "that" tone Period. However, if you seek versatility then it's a different comparison and discussion.

The JCM2000 to me is a go to amp for touring day in day out. We play modern rock and it is by far a great versatile amp from clean to all out scooped high gain. Love the 800 but unless you throw mods at it with a few pedals, it just does not do well in the versatility rating.

  • You cant really say one sounds better than the other...Both sound different and both sound good.

  • i like the jcm 800 bettter

  • whats the name of the AC/DC song? xD

  • "Riff Raff", then "Shot down in flames"

  • Hard to tell, both such great sounding amps!

  • jcm 800

  • Never mind it was those GT75s that mid scoop my bad play them through some Greenies ;-)

  • vou comprar um jcm800, mas com kt88

  • dude, this video helps me out so much, thank you for posting this.

  • man, I wish I didnt buy my DSL100. I should have spent the extra money on a 2501. DSL100 has no headroom.

  • what do you mean by headroom?

    like mids?

  • No, headroom means the amount of volume you can get while the amp stays clean.

  • you broke the first rule of rock and roll....thou will not play acdc without a Gibson sg

  • Haha

  • what about a les paul

  • get the vintage 30 speakers. I have DSL 50 and with v30 it sounds 10x beter.

  • all the way jcm 800, what guitar are you using? thanks, cheers!

  • Good video, both amps do sound great, but i prefer the 2000, seems to cover more tonal spectrum wheras the 800 sounded more trebley and the 2000 had a clearer sound

  • DSL sounded thing gang to my ears where as the JCM800 warmer I could be wrong? hell I will buy both right ;-)

  • theyre both beautiful sounding amps, but the DSL is a little more versatile than the 800...i deliberated between identical 800's and DSL's to the ones in the video before i bought my DSL100, but its all based on what suits your own personal taste coz every1 uses them for different applications.the dude who posted this vid is lucky enuf to have both!

  • How do you like the deep switch?

  • the funny thing is i just traded my jcm 800 2210 for a jcm 2000 dsl 100. in the other video you have comparing the two, the 800 sounds more pleasing to me but i've played 2 different jcm 800 2210 next to each other along with a jcm 2000 and the 800's sounded really muddy and the 2000 was very articulate. do you have any clean boost/overdrive going through them?

  • No, there are no pedals in these videos.

  • My DSL2k sounds like poo! I love the green channel with the gain on 10 with a boss OD to boost.....but the red channel is BLAH!

  • have it checked it may need retubed.. but definately bias the amp and have a professional do it trust me.

  • does the jcm 800 sound fatter when you crank it because i really want that vintage tone from it.

  • Does the 800 clean up pretty nice? like for bluesy stuff? and I know it doesn't have the gain section the dsl has, so are metal tones compromised without a pedal?

  • both sounded better at points

  • Okay, so they basically sound very similar. That was part of the intention of the designers at Marshall I'm sure. THe 800 has a bit better low end to my ears whereas the DSL is slightly cleaner, and has a nice top end. What about reliability though? I am interested in both amps, but I've heard bad things about the DSL's reliability and good things regarding reliability for the post 1985 800s.

  • are you sure you havent heard about the DSL 401 combos? those have problem because are marshall heads inverted...

dunno really, but both sounds awesome wish i had the money to buy one. I'd take the JCM2000 because of the two channels, i think it would fit me more, depends on you...

  • Personally i like both amps. But the DSL has a few fixable problems. Alot of people are against this amp but if the 2000 came out before the 800 it would be a different story. The 2000 isn't built as well. But when you get those few things corrected its pretty good. Not boutique amp good but its my personal choice for touring. It all depends on what you like. Personally i love the jcm 900 but its built like shit. If your looking for reliability don't buy one unless the kinks are worked out.

  • can you give me some reviews of the s.d. hot lead stack pick up ... thanks in advance

  • It's a very nice pickup, if you want a hot output. It delivers a lot of mids, but you lose a lot of the twang thing. Definetely a rock pickup.
