This makes you wonder if theres any Godzilla sized fish at the bottom of the ocean that we have not discovered yet lol. it would be cool if we discovered one.
Why do they have these marvelous shapes and animations and see through bodies? Since as they live down there humen are not 'supposed' to be able to see them??why??
Alot of these types of sea life create their own light since they live so far down where not much sun light reaches... they say they trap sun light when closer to the surface and keep the light trapped in cells like natural sun light generators or something- they are wild, and I bet there are some people haven't seen yet!
*nematocysts, not tentacles. and this isn't a jellyfish, it's from the phylum ctenophora. does anyone know if these can be kept in an aquarium?? JELLYFISH need a constant flow of water in a curvy tank so it's really expensive/difficult. but these guys are a little different, coz they can kinda move themselves around. you see these a lot really early in the morning out of rockport, texas. they're not all down that deep actually.
i know, i was correcting some douche bag who thought it was a jellyfish and thought that the tentacles were doing the stinging. i forgot to mention these don't sting. they can kinda propel themselves in the water unlike jellies, do you think they would fare well in an aquarium?? a curvy one.
Hm, actually I think you need a special type of aquarium for these guys. It has to do with them bumping into the walls, even curvy ones, I think it damages their tissues. It's called a kreisel tank.
ahhhhhhhhhah... fuck. kreisel tanks are so expensive!!! there's gotta be a way to keep them alive and well. and yeah i understand the kreisel tank has a lot to do with the perpetual flow of water. kreisels are normally recommended/MANDATORY for keeping JELLYFISH, but what i'm saying is that 'comb jellies' aren't quite 'jellyfish' and they have slightly different modes of propulsion sooo.... ?? they might not need a constant flow. maybe if a cylindrical tank and see how that goes.... idk?
it's lame how jellyfish are some of the most plentiful in population and some of the most beautiful animals on earth, that they're are soo fucking fragile...
amazing creatures!

Yes Jellyfish capture thing by stinging them with their tentacles, but comb jellys actually have a mouth that they open to capture prey.

Ctenophora don't have nematocysts - they have colloblasts. Colloblasts are adhesive cells similar to nematocysts, but don't sting, they only adhere.

Comb Jellies are very fragile, much more than most jellyfish. Moving them between environments is hard because they are damaged so easily.
