@franksinclair1 You have to see it objectively from the perspective of the time (and I'm not by any means justifying slavery). I'm just saying that both sides at the time of the civil war saw blacks the way we see animals these days. Few people saw black people as PEOPLE. They saw them as property at that time period. Only a small minority of whites believed blacks should be freed from slavery and an even smaller amount of them viewed blacks as actually being equal human beings to whites.

They proudly said so in their Mississippi, Texas, Georgia, and South Carolina declarations of secession. All anyone has to do is read them. @franksinclair1 You have to see it objectively from the perspective of the time (and I'm not by any means justifying slavery). I'm just saying that both sides at the time of the civil war saw blacks the way we see animals these days. Few people saw black people as PEOPLE. They saw them as property at that time period. Only a small minority of whites believed blacks should be freed from slavery and an even smaller amount of them viewed blacks as actually being equal human beings to whites.

There is a very small minority of people (myself included) who believe animals and bugs are equal to humans. The fact of the matter is that even the most avid "equality" enthusiasts would probably laugh out the idea of animals and bugs being equal to humans. Now please remember this is one of the major reasons why we left. With about 5million in population "not including slaves" to 22 million Northerners. The South paid nearly 80% of the total taxes. Now the taxes are pooled together and then dispersed to various things.

Out of this pool the entire South-land was getting something close to 20% of it. Think about it, paying 80% of the Union's total taxes and receiving 20% of the funding. You've obviously never even stepped foot inside a law school, much less graduated from one, and you've plainly never done any research at all regarding the constitutionality of secession. Unilateral secession is, was, and always has been unconstitutional, as Robert E Lee plainly explained in 1860 and the United States and Alaska Supreme Courts have explicitly confirmed. Oops!
I don't focus on slavery. The South did, in its Cornerstone Speech and declarations of secession you've NEVER EVEN READ.

Actually, the racist South refused to allow blacks to even enlist as soldiers until a week before the war ended, and only a few ever served. By contrast, as many as 200,000 blacks fought for the United States of America, for the obvious reason.
And the Supreme Court has explicitly addressed unilateral secession, and found it unconstitutional. Even a 5-second Google search would have told you that.
