did i hear a gear drive , very nice have a 82 ta , got alot into it cooken starters spent time on this 1 when hot harder 2 start what u have in yourss??
yeah unless your running a trans brake that stall is way to high and I also would of went to a 1 3/4 headers would have made a little more compressed HP
@thunderup86 The Headers are 1 3/4 inch now, Jet Hot coated Hooker Super Competition headers. And you don't need A trans Brake for that stall. If It matches the Cam and Gears. There is 0 bog effect on the launch.
@planey2 yeah me and you have a close setup I have a 383 stroker with 195cc 65cc trickflow heads 750cfm holley double pumper carb dual plane air gap edelbrock intake I love the super comp headers but I have a smaller duration cam I have a lunati 268/280 duration with a .504 lift and I have a PRO BUILT 700r4 tranny with a 2800 stall and 3.73 rear I had it dyno tuned by ABEL racing in OKC pulled 440-460 hp and 470tq all on street radials LOL which I think is dumb but funny
@planey2 The only way around getting a true duel exhaust that tucks under the 3rd gen body that Ive found is to cut out the body rail supports and weld in channels to resupport the uni body. And a cage is always good insurance too
thats not an iroc, thats a 1988 camaro sport coupe originaly had a 305 in it, it has the D-81 "shorty" spoiler, on it, ive owned two of these sport coupes, an 84 (no GFX) and the 88 that came with full GFX and the shorty spoiler.... along with the split rear seats,
i have an 89 iroc-z, has some bolt ons..its a 350tpi with T-5 transmission, anyhow im buying gears for it, would you recommend 3.73's or 3.90's? i like the thought of 3.90's but i want first gear to still have a purpose lol i dont need a granny gear
Yep and also, add the black stripe in the tails. I like those better than the "cross bar" type. Much cleaner.
Very nice, and thats coming from another mint third gen owner. Mines an 85 Z28, LB9(215hp TPI 305) - 3.23. 700R4. Arctic white on dark med. gray with t-tops, power seat and rear wiper. A few mods... Flowmaster cat back, descreened MAF, K&Ns, etc
@TunedPortZ28 i got an 88 iroc with a 366 (bored out 350) street/strip car, 4th gen 3.23 rearend posi, and a 700r4 with a shift kit, and i got the hurst quiksilver ratchet shifter.
those sidepipes give you carbon or black shit on your wheels or no? I was runnin way rich with mine and wheels got all oilyish and it deteriorated them.
i never said u were lying dude i said it sounds like your idle is high or your timing is a little off because ive had that cam b4 and it lope more then that...383 ci dont "tame" cams either..i have a 383 in my truck with a cam close to the one you have and its not "tamed" at all.ive had the same came in a 355 and it sounded almost the same..i like your car i had a 85.peace.
Yes, a 383 is a 350 with a 400 crank. The cubic inches come from a longer stroke. You would need a lot of new parts, but you can use an existing 350 :)
the x284 sounds lumpy..yours sounds 2 smooth..maybe u really have a gear drive,pipes and a stock block..or maybe your idle is 2 high!nice car either way!
2 reasons, obviously the idle is a little high...and its a 383 not a 350...the bigger the displacement the more it tames the cam. Did you watch my other vid?
@philthyco yes it does. any cam tested is tested on the most common engine of that manufacturer. so if you see a cam with 1500-6000 rpms range, that is for a SBC 350 for instance or ford 302
@CrikeyMang o.. so u ment cams change the power band..yea everyone knows that..but what u said at first was that stroking a motor brings the power band down..wich is wrong..peace.
@CrikeyMang the same cam in a 350 and 383 sound similar..and stroking a 350ci to a 383ci does not bring the power band down..ive built chevy 350's and 383's and b.o.p 455's, 400's and 350's..hell i even built a 306 and 347 ford..and 4 shits i built a 2.3 turbo coupe..i dont know why u would say stroking a motor would bring the power band down?do u mean make more hp at lower rpm?
@philthyco actually I never said anything about stroking an engine. Im just using your guys examples. Another examply of What I mean is put a XE268 in a sbc 283, Than take that cam out put it in a 350. That same cam will tame down from having more cubic inches to work with versus the 283 where the cam wouldnt clean up until about 2500 rpms versus 1500 rpms in the 350.
@CrikeyMang this dude said his car doesn't lope because its a 383 not a 350 but thats bs.ive buit both 350's and 383's with the same cam and they sound almost the same..the 383 revs higher yes ..but from its stroke...not the cam.. because the cam controlls the valvetrain and the valvetrain is the same on 350's and 383's...peace.
@philthyco thought Id add in that increasing cubic inches increases compression as well. And yes his car doesnt lope too much but theres too many variables that affect that. To me it sounds like its idling way too high, 2nd it has sidepipes which might make it hard to hear to lope if it doesnt have and H/X pipe. 3rd the timing might be advanced too much
@CrikeyMang yea i think the same..but its still a bad ass car..2 raise compression one neads 2 have small combustion chambers and domed pistons..the smaller the combustion area the higher the compression..peace.
@philthyco boring an engine also raises compression as well as stroking. others ways to raise compression: increase comp. height, thinner compressed thickness with smaller bore ring head gaskets, Zero-Deck, TotalSeal rings, and yes dome pistons;which ruin flame propagation; and reducing chamber size. That long box is nice, just needs to be lowered ;)
@CrikeyMang boring a engine increases the overall combustion area lowering compression a lil.. not raising it..and im not gonna lower the c10 cuz i use it for camping and 4 dirtbike riding..peace.
@philthyco actually thats a misconception that about 90% of people think. Increasing the bore increases air volume which still has to be compressed into the combustion chamber. If you use the Compression formula and only variable is increasing the bore youll see what I mean ;) and that thing would look badazz slammed in the woods next to a campfire :P
@philthyco & planey2 -- You folks might actually open a book & do a little research on camshafts once or twice. I didn't read very far on here but I didn't see anyone asking about the cam specs. Your cam can have high lift, short duration and minimal lobe seperation with a mild idle and still make decent power. Change the duration & lobe separation on that high lift cam and you end up with a wicked idle and a car that isn't nearly as streetable. Planey2 - car sounds great.
@Mr65gibby its a xe284 it should lope at idle..hes got his idle turned up to high...or his timing is off just a tad..i dont need to ask the cam specs ive used that cam b4 in a 350 and my 383 ..
It's called a unibody cause it doesnt have a frame! and that's why you add things like subframe connectors to strengthen the cars stability...and ive never heard of anyone blowing out the windshield...I have heard of the T-tops blowing out though with slicks on!
It's around 9.6 - 1 right now, no super charger yet. but I plan on stepping up to bigger chambered heads..which should drop it to around 8.5 - 1 which is fine with 7 lbs of boost and aluminum heads..you can get away with more compression running aluminum heads cause they dissapate heat faster.
wow you have the same euastsetup that i have on my 400ci 89 camaro rs. i live in ohio and the roads are nasty as hell and im ALWAYS scrapeing them coming out of my driveway.
it sounds good, and i know that some factory production heads are good, but put a set of 195 AFR's and you'd shit and wished you'd went that way to begin with. better flow than 041 ported, less weight, with some chassis guys saying 50 extra horses is needed for iron heads to make up the weight handicap... bye bye port job, and room to grow. get a set, you'll love'em
is there any possible way you can post a vid on how the exhaust is made?...i got an 89 myself and MAN I LOVE THE WAY YOURS SOUNDS and well i guess you can say youll have a copycat here in california LOL!!
i can understand, but time is money, even if the port job was free it's still isn't worth it. iron heads are never worth the time or money to mess with. build the motor around the heads not corners. cause in the end you will, or wish you did. it's a very nice project, and it ooks like you take care of her. i like those rims on those cars. good luck
Everthing is hot on that car except one thing, I love color, sound, motor choice but the pipes runnin from the side is not hot IMO but nice camaro tho
In this particular video it had, hedmann 15/8 shorty headers, in the other newer vid..im now runnin Hooker Super competition 1 3/4 longtubes, jet hot coated...but I also had to intall high flow cats to get it inspected.
Well with a 25.7 inch tire, and a Th-350 the car will do about 130 at 6200 rpm..which is much more than enough to run a quarter mile..unless you've got a 10 second car....which I plan on having eventually, so ill be upgrading to a "Monster Transmission" 700 r4 eventually.
no silly, read the description, but I do need a new video..since this vid ive put Jet Hot coated Hooker Super comp 1 3/4 headers, and QTP electronic cutouts..sounds nasty open headers!
actually the side pipes never hit..and these cars have balically no body roll..but what does hit are the flanges on my electric cutouts, they had to run my pipes under the subframe connectors so it's really low..and not to mention the roads suck here in maine. so my advice to anyone planning on modding there cars much and using subframe connectors is to get them installed before your exhaust work or while your changing it.
I know this may sound like a noob qustion but im building my first car (88 firebird) and its going to be a street/strip car, but what i was wondering is what exactly is a stall? lol....
Stall Converter? RPM you want the Trans to kick in. Staller? Sometime referred to as the Top Speed Limiter. Don't focus on the stall converter yet since your just starting out, focus on the rear axle gears that best suits your transmission.
haha never planned on having one, but I let a friend drive it in the rain..bad idea he tried passing someone stomped down on it and the car blew sideways caving the other guys door in and damaging the front passenger corner of mine..thus the reason for having a bra...personally ive grown to like it.
I helped put the motor in yes, and chose all the components, I have a neighbor that builds engines for race car teams so I let him put it together..only charged me $150 painted and everything!
sounds like it has a super charger.how is that 383 in there? hopster wheels i got torq thrust 17/11back and17/91/2 on front looks good have a 383 all eagle in shed aint done
The noise is just a "noisy gear drive" How is the 383 in there? did you miss the "4" cowl hood? and a 383 is the same size as a 305 or a 350..just more bore and stroke on the inside. and I dont believe 17x11 will fit under the wheels wells without sticking out a little..you may have to narrow your rearend.
man iam not dumb i have a harwood 4inch too and a 383 eagle.its a 350 bored 0.30 over and the crank is a 400 crank and is ussaully externally balanced.and all u have to do to fit 17by11s is cut bump stops out and in front of tire.and redo metal in that area.and yes all 283-302-307-305-350-383-400 are the same just internals.u dont have to narrow ur rear just get ur back spacing right and do a lil cutting i ordered mine custom cost 360.00 each 17by11 and 290.00 for front.
did i hear a gear drive , very nice have a 82 ta , got alot into it cooken starters spent time on this 1 when hot harder 2 start what u have in yourss??

How do those 3.73 rear gears work for you what is the top speed I need to get some sounds good and I love the exhaust out the side.
I just don't want some ricer to think his car is faster because my car would be rapped out a 100 or so just wondering
JProckz28 3 years ago
Well with a 25.7 inch tire, and a Th-350 the car will do about 130 at 6200 rpm..which is much more than enough to run a quarter mile..unless you've got a 10 second car....which I plan on having eventually, so ill be upgrading to a "Monster Transmission" 700 r4 eventually.
planey2 3 years ago
Sweet I heard good and bad about monster though so I order from Probuilt havent got it yet but from all the people at TGO I think it should run good.

is it straight pipe??
dindints 3 years ago
no silly, read the description, but I do need a new video..since this vid ive put Jet Hot coated Hooker Super comp 1 3/4 headers, and QTP electronic cutouts..sounds nasty open headers!
planey2 3 years ago
i bet you cant take speed bumps without giving those side pipes a beating. i wanted to so the same with my exhaust but was worried about clearance
92rs25th 3 years ago
actually the side pipes never hit..and these cars have balically no body roll..but what does hit are the flanges on my electric cutouts, they had to run my pipes under the subframe connectors so it's really low..and not to mention the roads suck here in maine. so my advice to anyone planning on modding there cars much and using subframe connectors is to get them installed before your exhaust work or while your changing it.

I know this may sound like a noob qustion but im building my first car (88 firebird) and its going to be a street/strip car, but what i was wondering is what exactly is a stall? lol....
MonsterMX82 3 years ago
Stall Converter? RPM you want the Trans to kick in. Staller? Sometime referred to as the Top Speed Limiter. Don't focus on the stall converter yet since your just starting out, focus on the rear axle gears that best suits your transmission.

nice ride bro..
but the hood bra gotta go
chevrolaid350 4 years ago
haha never planned on having one, but I let a friend drive it in the rain..bad idea he tried passing someone stomped down on it and the car blew sideways caving the other guys door in and damaging the front passenger corner of mine..thus the reason for having a bra...personally ive grown to like it.

did u put this in ur self?did u build motor?
89camaroiroc 4 years ago
I helped put the motor in yes, and chose all the components, I have a neighbor that builds engines for race car teams so I let him put it together..only charged me $150 painted and everything!
planey2 4 years ago
who is this friend that built your engine for you...I really need a guy like that to do my 396!!!

Sounds awesome! I always wanted to put a 383 in mine. What kind of trans you usin with that?
NYFLY4224 4 years ago
A rebuilt Th-350 but its hell on the interstate 3500 rpm at 65 I think im going to buy a 700r4 from monster transmission rated to withstand 650 hp
planey2 4 years ago
After going through 4 rebuilt 700r4's myself, I said F it, and got a Reman from Acdelco, never had a problem with it.
NYFLY4224 4 years ago
I think he meant, how is the car with the 383. like how does it drive. not how does it fit. Sounds nice though
isphius 4 years ago
whats it run in the 1/4, im guessin high mid 13's at a 105-109
boomstick66 4 years ago
well by my 1/8 mile time and speed it equates to more like 12.30s at 110
planey2 4 years ago
sounds like it has a super charger.how is that 383 in there? hopster wheels i got torq thrust 17/11back and17/91/2 on front looks good have a 383 all eagle in shed aint done
89camaroiroc 4 years ago
The noise is just a "noisy gear drive" How is the 383 in there? did you miss the "4" cowl hood? and a 383 is the same size as a 305 or a 350..just more bore and stroke on the inside. and I dont believe 17x11 will fit under the wheels wells without sticking out a little..you may have to narrow your rearend.
planey2 4 years ago
man iam not dumb i have a harwood 4inch too and a 383 eagle.its a 350 bored 0.30 over and the crank is a 400 crank and is ussaully externally balanced.and all u have to do to fit 17by11s is cut bump stops out and in front of tire.and redo metal in that area.and yes all 283-302-307-305-350-383-400 are the same just internals.u dont have to narrow ur rear just get ur back spacing right and do a lil cutting i ordered mine custom cost 360.00 each 17by11 and 290.00 for front.
