I'm trained to do night spotting, including night tornado spotting, but I have to say I absolutely HATE spotting for tornadoes at night. It's entirely possible for the storm to be on top of you and for you not to know it -— until it's too late.
Storms getting more severe than ever before? How can you be so sure I mean really folks weather records only began in the late 17th century ( Ben Franklin was a major contributor) and they're accuracy is questionable, so 200+ years is really not much to go by when you have several 100 years prior to that that nothing is recorded on how large and/or devastating storms were so in about another 100 years or so we'll have a more accurate map of whether the present weather is actually the worse.
The weather is diffently changng. Iowa never used to get such large tornadoes. We have had a large number if EF5s. 2010 could have been another bad year with the large tornado in June that almost hit Albert Lea.
We had an EF4 Tornado around my area of Toledo Ohio, on June 5th at like 11:00ish at night. Millbury, Ohio looks like a war zone...it's very sad. Hugs from Toledo, Ohio!!!
We had an EF4 tornado here in my area of Toledo, Ohio about a month ago. The tornado happened at nighttime, and then aouple hours later another round of huge storms came in. Milbury, Ohio looks like a war zone...it's very sad. This is a great video. Hugs from Toledo, Ohio!!!

It's a common misconception. Size does not always equal intensity...Some EF4-EF5 tornadoes had a recorded width of 300 feet or less...The stereotypical EF5 is more than a mile wide...

Yes. D; Yes it does. One of my main fears is being stuck in a tornado in the middle of the night. And I'm hard to be woken up. I'd REALLY hate to be in that/this tornado..
after this tornado went through I went to this Christian Sunday deal and they tried to say God was mad at the gays and all the partyin is why god let it go through the ped mall. stupid shit. I about stood up and out burst I was so pissed off.
that is stupid and they definitely dont sound like Christians. being one myself, i can say that God is love and he is NOT mad at gays, rather He despises the SIN not the Persons. he died for every human being on the Cross and salvation is free to all who ask God :)
I watched the double tornadoe that night with my family from our porch but only when it was dying down we got to see the power go up and all this cool green smoke came from the ground totally cool
I remember the alarm going off in my dorm. We were supposed to be heading down to the basement, but I had an exam the next day, so I stayed in my room studying..... on the 4th floor... then we found out that a tornado had practically ripped through campus just minutes away...
No way that it could be as they are not located by each other..Parkersburg is NE and Iowa City is in the SE..and the storm in Parkersburg was this summer and the one in IC was in 06

@ClassicLoverA This is the video of a tornado that hit Iowa City on April 13, 2006. It has nothing to do with the 4 scouts that died at their camp more than 2 years later on June 11, 2008.
The last time Dubuque was anywhere near a tornado, if i remember was 93 or 94 when an F3 nearly socked Galena, IL. It missed and ended up out in a cornfield and it ran over a dilapidated barn. I used to live in Mt. Carroll, IL. When I was younger, that same year an F2 directly hit our house. You know you live in a Grand Ol' House when the only "damage" was a piece of siding that fell off and landed on the ground right next to where it came off. We popped it back in the next day!
OMG I remembered when this happened my best friend was at a bar there and didn't even realized it happened until after I had called her to see if she was ok then she freaked out. No one in the bar knew what happened until it was over with.
dude that day scared me the tornado was heading straight at my house but went up the funnel passed over and i heard it it knocked over trees in my woods and threw a lot of things in my yard around that day was scary
That is the scariest situation to ever encounter; something that large, that ominous, and you cant even see it, only by virtue of lighting flashes. Very unnerving..
hey man i had that same scary feeling its like where is the tornado judging from that day i feel very intimated it could've hit any city in iowa too bad it had to target iowa city
my brother was in that area where the tornado had touched down. The alarms stopped so some of the people went back home and so did my brother and suddently while he was driving, litterly a torando touched down in front of him but there was no alarms going off.
That had to be a surreal site to see. I've witnessed plenty of wicked weather in Cedar Rapids over the years but never actually seen a tornado. As big as that tornado was it's amazing the damage wasn't much worse.
it was roughly a f3. i live in iowa city and was watching the whole thing. there were like 5 tornados and im pretty sure this one was a f3ish but some of the other ones were no more than an f1
u know what sux?? I've always been fascinated by tornados, and have always wanted to see one. I lived in Iowa City from birth til 23. I move, then a few months later, we get hit by one! Destroyed beautiful parts of my hometown, and I wasn't even there to enjoy it! So that just pisses me off!
I live about 35 miles away in Muscatine, which coincindentally, was struck on June 1st, 2007. Looking at this video it is amazing that it didnt cause more damage than it did. It is... A GIANT.
Yea, I came home from Cedar Rapids 1 minute after the storm hit Iowa City. I'm diving on the interstate towards Iowa City going about 100 mph cuz I wanted to get home to family. I get off the Kalona/Iowa City exit to find that area destroyed & a semi over turned. It was really scary. I watched it destroy my city :(
ya my track was coming back from a meet.. it got delayed then cancelled because of this storm.. veryu scary.. and we got out of there just in time! thank god
i live just north of iowa city and my sister was at the hospital with one of her friends and normaly she parks inthe liqour house parking lot but it was full so she didnt park there the next day all the cars in that lot were upside down and destroyed her car was fine she had parked right down the street
One group of my friends lived by police station downtown when it happened. Were on the front porch watching sky turn greenish in color. I thought it was funny how it landed between two large buildings to demolish a small happy joes, then go back up. On a friends apartment building his room was on corner and it destroyed his room and everything he owned, left the rest of building minus some windows. (He was gone.) His words on the matter:
It's not a fake Janne358. You can see it when the lightning flashes. Besides I used to live in Iowa City and I was there when it happened. It destroyed the downtown area.
That's right, KWQC-TV in Davenport showed video from east of Iowa City that proved it was there, a good bolt of lightning flashed, which they were able to freeze the video right there where you could see that tornado on the ground. The power was already out in the footage in Iowa City.
Those are lies and twisted facts. Please do not insult my people and my God in that manner. And what in the world does it have to do with Iowa City? Try commenting on the video than spreading your deceitful hate speech.
Mormon LDS tornado. Would you like to be a mormon? They believe that God was once a man like us. Jesus was not born of a virgin. That men may become gods. Polygamy still prevails in the afterlife. You have to work for your savation. Jesus and Satan are spirit brothers of lucifer and God (Eloheim) was the father. Jesus was created out of sexual relations between God and Mary whom he created, which would be incest.
yeah i live in iowa i heard bout that must of sucked i know when i ever here tornado sirens i run to the basement i don't wanna be outside when one rips through
Sirens were going off and it started to hail over in Coralville. I didn't pay much attention until I heard a thump and looked outside where good sized lump of hail hit my car, and then I was pissed. Until I learned portions of Iowa City was leveled, then I humbly went back to eating my spaghetti.
pull up any news channel, USA today...they'll all say the same thing but if you want to keep digging a hole jr go ahead...if you were there you should know
mother nature at night sucks, especially sitting through a hurricane

Hello. In my homecounty was in 1897 theafullest and scariest Tirnadoe with very big hail.
On 100km Length of the storm was running ALL trees and Animals were killed.Big houses and churches were distroyes.
Trains were thrown of the railways, and ships were pulled onto land.
Alltogether 120 Death and also 12000 Injured.About 100Cities and villags were "bancrott" because of the big disturbing.

I thought it was funny how it landed between two large buildings to demolish a small happy joes, then go back up. On a friends apartment building his room was on corner and it destroyed his room and everything he owned, left the rest of building minus some windows. (He was gone.) His words on the matter:
"WHAT THE HELL!!" lol

It's not a fake Janne358. You can see it when the lightning flashes. Besides I used to live in Iowa City and I was there when it happened. It destroyed the downtown area.

sure.....

That's right, KWQC-TV in Davenport showed video from east of Iowa City that proved it was there, a good bolt of lightning flashed, which they were able to freeze the video right there where you could see that tornado on the ground. The power was already out in the footage in Iowa City.

look harder. you probably cant see it because the only light comes from lightning

Sirens were going off and it started to hail over in Coralville. I didn't pay much attention until I heard a thump and looked outside where good sized lump of hail hit my car, and then I was pissed. Until I learned portions of Iowa City was leveled, then I humbly went back to eating my spaghetti.

wrong, it was an F3 on the Fujita Scale. The National Weather Service sent employees to survey the damage from Davenport, Iowa.
owenm400 4 years ago
wrong it was an F1
jr86racer 4 years ago
it was an F2/F3...the size of a tornado has nothing to do with its strength, small ropes can be F5's...half mile wide ones can be F2's
maintain242001 3 years ago
who the hell siad anything about size? it was an F1 I was there I remember....btw what is an f2f3? is that like a F2.5
jr98racer 3 years ago
