One could be very confident that said claim is true yet not claim to know that the claim is true with absolute certainty. But actually, if you consider Descartes' Meditations, each person does know with absolute certainty that he or she exists... but that's about the only absolute "for sure."  Hope that helps.

The answer to fanaticism and fundamentalism is NOT moderation. Religious moderation provides cover and recruits, and a fertile ground for the germination of extremism. The cure is with rationalism, and an insistence on EVIDENCE of existence.

@DandAinTac You are dead right; moderation is worse than useless. Most Muslims in the UK claim to be moderate but a poll revealed that nearly 40% of them want Sharia law to replace UK Government. Moderate catholic Americans funded the cute'n'cuddly Irish who killed kids with bombs in toyshops when I was a child in London. Just look at nVei06 posting here; without religion to hide him he'd be obvious as a psycho in his community and would be safely confined by now.
