I don't think it matters who stole from who, I still think 40k is better than starship troopers or starcraft or anything else. nothing beats 40k in my book. even if it's "stolen" from something. they only made it better than the original.
plus the background stories on each army are amazingly detailed. something other games have like 0 of.

hi im a noob at this and ive got 50 bucks to start out a army does any one have any suggestions on what kind of army i should start out with i could use the help.
@pikachuthunder1 what you should do is save up 110 bucks for a battle force. It will be a little bit of a challenge to put them together as they are not confined to individual boxes but im sure you can figure it out. and be sure to choose any you like not because its "noob friendly". If you get models that don't appeal to your tastes you won't have fun painting or playing as them. Also go to mega upload for codex's and rulebooks to start out with. dont forget plastic cuters and plastic glue.

I think you guys played the PBS' perils of the warp wrong. If you roll PoTW on a PBS, the overseer executes D3 sanctioned psykers. He himself is not a sanctioned psyker and will never kill himself.

@Multibambams IMP Guard infantry armys are very hard to do. Ork Infantry is slightly easyer to do becouse of the massive Trucks you can bring along to transport your army. If you like infantry (Mass) Armys Orks is possibly the way to go. IMG Guard is more of a "Tank/Mech" Type Army builder. However if your playing Orks in like Apocolypse or LARGE point games. Your going to want to swich to something to cover/help your infantry out vs Large Template weapons and such.

@arwing20 Yeah Warcraft and Starcraft both ripped plenty of stuff from Fantasy and 40k. They've kind developed in their own direction and have a different flavour, but many basic things are undeniably similar.

@weeboks The power armour used by the Terrans (Starcraft), Space Marines (WH40K), and the Humans (Gears) are all directly taken from the original Starship Troopers novel of 1959. Power armour has recently become a staple in futuristic Human armies. But yeah, these games do take a lot of inspiration from other sources. Blizzard isn't as original as everyone thinks they are and Gears is just a cash in.
@7graywolf7 Just to play devils advocate, the armour in Gears doesn't do shit. It's useless and offers no protection, I wouldn't count it into the power armour category.

You'll have to read the S. Troopers book because it's hard to prove something that was in a book. But search wikipedia for the book and read "Military Innovations".

When Warhammer 40k came out, RST almost immediately turned the tables by releasing Spelljammer. These things are circular. And while Starcraft and Warcraft are almost completely devoid of original thought; I think you'd be surprised at how much Game Workshop has stolen from Diablo.
@SuperPanoply There is a barrier between stealing content and being influenced, taking an idea, and making it your own. The idea of "original" is really how personalized an idea gets. Even if Warhammer did steal some things *exact copies nearly* and I'd like to see proof, and I'd still prefer Warhammer lore simply because of how badass it is, there's no room for fluffy shit and messing around, just war.

Yes, Khorne Berserkers are part of the Chaos Space Marine army. They're fanatic Chaos Space Marines that worship Khorne and have basically lost their minds and want to slaughter everything ;).
And yes, you can summon daemons to use in your CSM army :).

I once liked warhammer i spent moneys on the rules paints models etc and it was something that i enjoyed until i looked at myself with these people around me..all nerdy and spotty who seemed to live for warhammer people who were in their 30's and I SAID NOO I WILL NOT BECOME ONE OF THEM! and so i gave it up sold my models and stopped playing so i can save my life from obsession but warhammer will still have a place in my heart where it used to fill :'(

@TheCakeIsASpy0o well if this kind of thing tickles your fancy, and u have some time spare, the best thing to do isto jump right in a play a few practise games with a freind who knows how to play or if u know someone with a couple of armies, don't even think about buy models - just get used to how the game is laid out, its phases and your understanding will improve 100% from what u understand currently. It may / may not be for you so by doing this u have not spent any money.

ive never played warhammer 40k (other than the pc game version) and i love watching the videos of the actual game, but i dont have the time nor money to collect and raise a good army and paint them too :( . ah well i can still watch for free =)

i love this game. Too bad the Games workshop in the Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe were I live closed. I got the Battle for Macragge set. And painted the Ultramarines gold and silver and the other Space Marines black with red eyes.

I once liked warhammer i spent moneys on the rules paints models etc and it was something that i enjoyed until i looked at myself with these people around me..all nerdy and spotty who seemed to live for warhammer people who were in their 30's and I SAID NOO I WILL NOT BECOME ONE OF THEM! and so i gave it up sold my models and stopped playing so i can save my life from obsession but warhammer will still have a place in my heart where it used to fill :'(

@law573 it was a hobby but i just started doing to much of it and nothing else so i just quite i feel that it was only a hobby that should have been sustained from 10-13 years old i did it because it started to conflict things in my real life like homework, family,friends etc so i felt that i was having to much fun and it was really fun i enjoyed it alot but alas it was not to be :'(

@TheCakeIsASpy0o well if this kind of thing tickles your fancy, and u have some time spare, the best thing to do isto jump right in a play a few practise games with a freind who knows how to play or if u know someone with a couple of armies, don't even think about buy models - just get used to how the game is laid out, its phases and your understanding will improve 100% from what u understand currently. It may / may not be for you so by doing this u have not spent any money.
