Ok, first of all I am a jet engine mechanic in the United States Marine Corps. In order for this to be work, you'd need at least 6 engines facing different outboard angles. Look at videos of saturn V and shuttle launches and you can see how the exhaust spreads out over a large area as the atmosphere gets less dense.
